Pressing the SHIFT key to sprint has a weird effect if you're moving diagonally.

For Example, if you press W+D to move forward and right Eivor moves forward and right, but if you press SHIFT the character sprints but also continually changes direction and runs in a large clockwise circle.

And, if you press S+D and SHIFT to sprint towards the "camera" and to the right, Eivor runs in a small clockwise circle.

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@noskcajleinad I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this.

Can you please confirm the following:

    • If you have changed any of the key bindings or are you using the default controls?
    • When did the issue first occur?
    • Do you have the latest game update installed?
    • Do you have a controller or any other USB devices plugged in? If so please unplug them and reboot your PC and try again.

    @ubi-keo

I have changed some key bindings, but not movement (WASD) or sprint (SHIFT).

I think the issue was there from the beginning. I did feel that the movement was a bit odd every now and again. It just took a while to realise it was the sprinting diagonally that was doing it.

I have the latest game update installed.

I just have a mouse and keyboard plugged in.

    Also...

If I jiggle the mouse it interrupts the circle running, and Eivor runs in a straight line. This only lasts a few seconds and then the character starts running in a circle again.

    Hello there @noskcajleinad!

Thanks for letting us know more about your key binding settings, and that using the issue seems to be briefly interrupted when moving the mouse.

I've noticed in my own game that when you sprint and hold A/D, Eivor will also run in a circle in whichever direction they're pointed in (clockwise or anti-clockwise). Based on this information, it looks like this is working as intended, as you are holding the A/D key whilst sprinting (hence why Eivor runs automatically in a circle). You should be able to sprint in a diagonal path by just holding W + Shift, and moving your mouse in the direction you want to move in.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

    Thanks! 😊

It seems to be a camera auto-centre behaviour (remnant from controller controls?) that is interrupted when you move the mouse, and only happens when sprinting (not when walking or jogging), and only happens with diagonal movement.

So, actually, Eivor's movement is always perfectly consistent in relation to the camera. The character does move forward and right in relation to the camera, but the camera is constantly trying to auto-centre and this creates a (visible) feedback loop.

When the character is facing away, the camera is trying to rotate 45 degrees. And when the character is facing forward it tries to rotate 135 degrees in the same amount of time creating a smaller circle.

    w+d = jog forward & right
    alt+w+d = walk forward & right
shift+w+d = sprint in a large clockwise circle

    shift+w+d+(shake the mouse a bit ) = sprint forward & right

s+d = jog towards the camera & right
alt+s+d = walk towards the camera & right
shift+s+d = sprint in a small clockwise circle

shift+s+d+(shake the mouse a bit) = sprint towards the camera & right

Thanks for sharing more of your findings with us, @noskcajleinad.

Would you be able to send us a video demonstration which the steps you are taking to avoid Eivor from running in a circle when using W+D / S+D to run diagonally? We can then include this in your report and pass this along to the development team to take a closer look at. They'll be able to let us know if this is working as intended or if there is an issue with the camera centring.

    Thanks! 😊
