After the update today the game won't launch. It gets stuck on the EAC splash screen and then says Launch Error: Failed to start the game (2)

I verified the game files and rebooted my pc as well.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Hello purpl3dr4nk. Thank you so much for providing that screenshot. Since you've already tried verifying your game files and rebooting, let's give these steps a try next. If the game still isn't launching after trying those steps, gather your MsInfo and DxDiag files and submit them via a ticket on our Support Site! That way, we'll be able to get a better look at your system to pinpoint what could be causing these failures to launch.

@ubistorm I am having the same issue...I updated everything, uninstalled and reinstalled ubisoft as well as division 2, uninstalled/reinstalled video card drivers and software, ran chkdsk, and finally decided to do a windows reset and reinstall windows. Downloaded everything again and still get the same error message as the original poster. And it all started after ubisoft updated.

I had this exact same issue and have been working to fix it for a few days now. I fixed it last night. It seems to be a corrupt file after the update I assume and a basic uninstall does not get rid of the file. My friend "Dragunov" advised me to install a program called Revo Uninstaller. With this I uninstalled The Division2 and Ubisoft Connect and this program is able to pick up any residual files that get left over. So you use this program to find these files and delete them too, making sure both The Division 2 and Ubisoft Connect are 100% cleared from the system. The Division 2 had a fair few files left over, and Ubisoft Connect had a ton of files left over! Once 100% cleared, I reinstalled both and the game now works.. Hope this helps.

I put in a support ticket with Ubisoft, tried all their steps, then they referred me to EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) troubleshooting guide. One of their steps, sort of got me working all the sudden. That link is here... https://www.easy.ac/en-us/support/game/guides/installer/

It reads, "You can also install the service manually. To do so navigate to the "EasyAntiCheat" folder inside of the game's installation folder and locate "EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe". Launch it as administrator and choose 'Install'.

I did this and it pops up a box where you have the option to install or repair EAC. Tried install, tried repair, then launched the game...still didnt work.

What I did next in desperation was launch the game and once the Division2/EAC splash screen came up i still had the EAC installer window up at the same time I just started repeatedly clicking on the "repair" button on the EAC window, while the game was trying to launch and some how it started working and the game launched.

Worth a shot if you want to try it. I closed the game and re-launched the game a 2nd time and 3rd time with no problem other than it keeps launching the game in windowed mode instead of full screen. Hope this helps yall. I've missed 2 days of the global event b/c of this. Not the end of the world but very frustrated I had to go so far as to re-install windows b/c of EAC which we know does little to protect us against cheaters in the Dark Zone.

*update - after 5-6 days of working the issue has returned when i launched my game from the Division 2 shortcut on my Windows desktop. I tried launching from the Ubisoft Connect software and it worked.

So I figured out now the issue has returned only when i Launch it from the division 2 shortcut on my desktop. But when i launch Division 2 from within Ubisoft then it launches fine. I deleted the one shortcut from my desktop and went to the games folder and sent that shortcut to the desktop. Now it launches.

Thanks @Quackhead382 for providing your findings! In my experience, launching our games directly from the Ubisoft Connect client works the best and produces the least amount of issues. There are some games that do launch all right from shortcuts though.

For anyone returning to this thread, please first try out launching the game from the Ubisoft Connect client to see if the error is resolved. If not, I encourage you to test out the steps in Quackhead382's helpful post from earlier. 🙂 Should the issue still persist, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support teams for further specialized assistance!
