One handed shortsword mastery skills are not present in the skill tree, so damage-wise they feel very underwhelming compared to the other weapons which do have the mastery perks available..

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@triskelionyt Hey man that's great observation. Indeed, now that one-handed swords are added hopefully there can be mastery skill knots in the skill tree. Speaking of which, what about scythes?

Or, another way to deal with it is to make those mastery skill knots for two-handed swords to apply to one-handed swords as well.

@triskelionyt I don’t think the skill tree focuses on specific weapons, you pick up a lot of small stat boosts for all bear, wolf and Raven weapons/gear alike. Swords in general are weak af. You’re better off using a dane axe or spear.

@triskelionyt I agree with @ImaginaryRuins here, this is a great observation. However, it’s pretty obvious that Ubisoft has not spent as much time thinking through the integration of new weapons as much as they did with the core arsenal.

Notice how, when Wrath of the Druids came out, the new skills they added along with the smaller stat nodes do not necessarily relate to anything about the expansion, just further enhancements. On the Wolf side, there was a new stat masteries for Light Bow and Spear, on the Bear side, there was another Greatsword mastery, and on the Raven side, there was another bump for the Spear.

What is strange though is that for the new extensions of the skill tree for the Siege of Paris expansion, there are no new weapon mastery stat nodes... it’s all generalized stuff. I kind of expected Ubisoft to include more mastery bumps for other weapons in the inventory that the extension for Wrath of the Druids didn’t include, but that didn’t happen. As a result, this makes the Spear the most boosted melee weapon in the game across the entire skill tree, followed by the Greatsword. Of course, it makes sense... Odin’s weapon is a spear.

@imaginaryruins They should just replace the other weapon skills for Melee / Ranged skills that way they would account for any weapon of that type, or maybe have skills as 1h / 2h / ranged instead, either way they added more Melee skills with the release of the 1h to account for the lack of sword talents.
