Re: [Man of Mystery - Escort Tarben back to Settlement bug](/topic/81328/man-of-mystery-escort-tarben-back-to-settlement-bug)

Hi all, I have another really annoying bug in this mission, it's not a matter of Tarben not following me or getting stuck etc as per the older thread, my issue is that I cant drop him off at the settlement. I've followed back to the marker, but the mission just won't end, it's like a cut scene or dialogue should trigger or something, but it doesn't.

The issue is then, whatever else I do, where ever else I go, he just follows me. I've played hours since trying to finish this mission, but I just can't end it. I've tried everything, going and doing other stuff, going to other places, etc, etc, but he's constantly with me, and each time I try and return him to the "settlement", it just doesn't work. It's really driving me mad now, HELP Ubisoft!!!

Oh worthy of note : the bug originally manifest on PS4, since the bug first happened I got a PS5, have migrated my play through over to that platform, and the issue is still there!

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    Hello,

I found Guthban and went with Tarben to settle his debt with his old buddies, in the matter of fact I already had the item since I've already raided the place so I was able to skip to getting Tarben home. I'm at the stage where the quest states "Escort Tarben back to the settlement".
He follows me all the way home but on the spot the quest indicates to finish (back at his house) nothing happens. I would suspect a "thank you and goodbye" dialogue but nothing happens!

I've tried untracking and tracking the quest. Tarben just keeps following me around. If he starts attacking what I'm attacking he is of some help :D, but now I'm tired of Tarben and want to get rid of him. He constantly gets in the in front of the camera when there a dialogue scenes and such. There is little stealth with Tarben around as he stops when he can't follow and when he can follow you again he follows the most direct path... Straight thru enemies and whatnot. He has died (or gone down) a couple of times and I've left him for dead but as soon as I get out of combat he regenerates and starts following me again.

I've also tried going back and forth to Norway (hard reload of the world?) but that does not fix it either. I really don't want to start a new game.

@larsey Ha you aren't alone! I posted this very same issue just yesterday! - looks like it's not a platform specific issue then as I am on PS5

@rossva_1189 Yeah, this is really really bad. This game is all about the story of Eivor... not Eivor and Tarben. Meh. I really dont want to start the restart the game (and NOT do the quest at all). Maybe go back to Odyssey 🙂

    Hello there @rossva_1189 & @larsey!

The development team have been investigating your reports about being unable to escort Tarben back to the settlement during "Man of Mystery." They've requested some additional information to assist in reproducing this issue during testing.

Can you let us know if you completed the quest in full upon starting, or if you started the quest with Tarben then left to complete other tasks before completing it?

If you did continue with other tasks prior to continuing "Man of Mystery," can you let us know what these tasks were?

    Thanks! 😊
