    Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Patriots.

A game that was going to be the next big title in the franchise after the successes of R6 Vegas and R6 Vegas 2. But the game began to stall during development and was scrapped out in favor of making what would eventually become Rainbow Six Siege. But I get the sneaking suspicion that R6 Patriots was not entirely scrapped, but rather it was retooled and adjusted to become what would eventually be a new Intellectual Property underneath the Tom Clancy's name -

    Tom Clancy's The Division.

You see, The Division was a game that had very many things in common with R6 Patriots. Namely -

    • Third-Person Shooter
    • Acts of Terrorism in the United States perpetuated by U.S. Citizens.
    • Taking place in New York.
    • Advanced Technologies and Holographic Displays used by Operatives.
    • Operatives being anonymous to the public.
    • Closing car doors while moving along them.
    • Seeing the horrors of the front-lines and the atrocities performed by your fellow man upon regular civilians.

It honestly feels like story and game that was going to be R6 Patriots was still recycled in spirit and was used to be the birth of a new I.P.
I cannot wait to see what The Division 3 will have in store later on down the line.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    @dagrommit
Thanks man. I forgot about that part of the vid. I was remembering the third-person cover mechanics like they had in Vegas.

So it is half-right to call it a Third-Person Shooter. Because when in cover, it is in 3rd Person. But when out of cover, it is first.

@rambobambibambo to be clear, I'm not dumping on your theory that Division could have had roots in R6 Patriots. The Editorial department at Ubisoft was known to influence the design of games at all of Ubi's studios. However, none of the elements listed are particularly unique - and some had been used in other Clancy games of that era.

I can definetly see they re-using a lot of the NY research as well polishing the holographic aspects of the UI and other stuff, the other plot stuff not so much since one game was focused on watching the events as they unfolded regarding an economic crisis and you trying to put a stop to it vs an new organization that stays hidden until something so bad happens that they are forced to answer and deal with the aftermatch to try to restore normalcy. One deal with a focused groups of individuals doing terrorism with political agenda other deals with power struggle between multiple gangs and factions

I believe The Division was a concept that Massive came up with. Not much relation to R6.

@adze After watching this, it reminds me of Splinter Cell Blacklist.
