Hello everyone, I was just thinking about the current cheater problem - same as many of us - and came with an interesting idea.

Since many cheaters return with new accounts every few months, one would think that issuing an IP ban would be the easiest way to get rid of them, but there is of course the problem of Internet Cafes, school dormitories, and similar buildings/institutions with shared internet connection.

There might be a simple workaround to that tho. Ubisoft (almost) for sure has the data about IPs of everyone they banned, and over the years that should accumulate to a decent list, possibly with recurring IPs, that could flag new accounts under that IP as a higher priority to investigate.

Of course, a skilled hacker/cheater will use VPN, but even if this approach would help with banning 100 players each season, it still is 100 fewer cheaters in the game, which I count as a win.

Hopefully, this little idea gets some traction and gets to some devs, all in all... GLHF to everyone.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

If you are going to present an idea, at least know what you are talking about.

IPv4 Addresses change. Also what's the point of an IPv4 List?? How does that in any way prevent people from writing, using and distribute cheats.

Also, put more thought into your ideas people. Like seriously one ounce of critical thinking! => Wouldn't it be funny if I hijack your computer / reroute traffic and cheat. Guess what, now your "Router's" (/ ISPs) assigned IPv4 is on the list, eventhough you haven't done anything.

Or what if you cheat with the IPv4 assigned by your ISP 999.999.999.999, now the IPV4s change around as they typically do, and I am assigned that R6 blacklist 999.999.999.999 IPv4? See how worthless the whole idea becomes.

Heck, modern routers allow you to click a button in the configuration site and be assigned a new IPv4 by your ISP.

What if I buy a bunch of VPS' and use them as a proxy. What if someone uses vpn's, what, are you going to ban all AWS, DigitalOcean, [insert VPS provider] and all VPN IPs? <-- Even if you catch most VPN's, like Netflix and other streaming services do, there are more than enough innocent/fresh or not blacklisted Addresses, otherwise some VPNs wouldn't be able to claim "Streaming Unblocked" etc...

@elonmacaroni No need to jump all over the poor fellow just for making a suggestion. Even if it doesn't factor everything in, at least he's doing what UBI claimed they wanted, asking for input. And what's UBI doing to stop the cheating? Nothing at all, as far as anyone can tell. Just a lot of balloon juice over on their blog, with no substantive action. Unless we want to count how they farmed it all out to BattlEye, but that was five years ago.
