    Hello.

I bought Assassin's Creed Valhalla a couple of days. Everything was alright when I checked up if the game works or not. After a restart of my PC, I just cannot play it anymore.

I have the "press key" thing and at this time, it works. But after that, I cannot do anything. I'm just stuck in the menus. My keayboad & my controller do not respond. I just can move my curosr in the menu. When I put my mouse on a menu tab, it is highlighted but impossible to click on it.

I already done all these things:

    • Check update driver
      • keyboard
      • mouse
      • Graphic card
      • ...
    • Disconnect controller
    • Disconnect everything from USB connector except mouse and Keyboard
    • Disconnect everything from USB connector except xBox Controller
    • Check game files
    • Disabled all overlay (Discord, Ubisoft,...)
    • Reinstall the game
    • Launch the PC in "clean boot" mod
    • Launch the game as administrator
    • Delete the ACValhalla.ini
    • Delete the ACValhalla files in document files

    Here is my pc configuration:

    • Intel Core i5 7600K
    • Asus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5
    • 2x8 GB DDR4 @2400MHz
    • Game installed on a HDD
    • Motherboard : ASUSTeK PRIME Z270-A

All these things do not work and I feel like I bought a game that I can never play because of these problems

    Thanks for your answers.

Hello @Robert301 and welcome to Discussions!

First of all I am really sorry to hear that your mouse and the keyboard do not respond while in game.

I went through the detailed description you wrote and it seems to me that you have performed plenty of troubleshooting steps including disabling the background applications.
As far as I understand it all worked fine and you were not stuck in the menus before the PC restart, correct?
Have you tried to use another keyboard and/or a mouse in a testing purposes and check the game behavior?
Can you try one more time to disconnect all the peripherals, reinstall the game into another location and see if it will change the situation?

Should the issue still persist, please let us know, so we can create a support case for you.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Hello.

I can confirm to you when I launched the game for the very first time, I was not stuck like this. I could move my character and I could click on anything from the menus. After a restart of my PC, nothing worked, I could not click on the menus.

So I did what you asked for. I tried one more time to disconnect all the peripherals and it did not work as espected. I reinstalled the game in an another location of my HDD and after that I tried again to launch the game without any peripherals except my keyboard and my mouse. Nothing changed, my keyboard still does not work and my mouse too. I can only move the cursor but I can not click on anything.

After several tries, I could click on the menu, go to "command" section. After that, same problem, everything was stuck. I noted that I was not on the standard "Hybrid" mod anymore but on "Keyboard & mouse".

Can this thing could be the problem or not?

@robert301 Thank you for the details. Would you also clarify the current Windows OS you are running?

If possible, upload a screenshot of your 'command' menu so I can get a better look at the input settings for Valhalla. Just in case, please clear cache for Ubisoft Connect before launching the game as administrator.

    Hello @Ubi_Plush

My current Windows OS is Windows 10.

I tried to clear the cache and launching the game as administrator to take a screenshot of my "command" menu. After several tries, I am stuck again in the main menu so it is impossible to take it. I do not understand why I can not click on it anymore.

I will try again later. If I manage to go to the "command" menu, I will take a screeshot.

I finally managed to get to the "command" menu but again everything froze. I could not click on anything or change the "keyboard and mouse" mode to "Hybrid". My cursor was on the "entry mod" section at the time of the screenshot. As you can see, the section is highlighted (as I said in my first post) but I can not do anything.

Here, however, the requested screenshot :

Hey there @arni-gx! I'm sorry you've run into this issue trying to bind your keys. Could you grab me a screenshot showing your "command" menu so I can check into the inputs a little further?

    @robert301

This probably won't work but I'd had an issue quite similar to this on another game.

It might be that the game isn't properly 'full screen'.

Try pressing ALT and Enter (together) a few times and see if it goes 'full screen'. (the screen might flicker, also you might need to do it a few times because sometimes once doesn't work).

(I say 'fullscreen' because I don't mean it in the same way as the Fullscreen/Borderless option in the games menu).

    @arni-gx

It might be that your keybind ini thingy is set to read only.

Go to Documents then Assassin's Creed Valhalla, then ACValhalla.ini, and rightclick on that file then goto Properties and make sure it's not on read-only.

If it's on read only then keybinds will only last until you close the game.

@robert301 try to delete ACValhalla.ini located in Documents\Assassin's Creed Valhalla\ and let the game regenerate it at start up and see what happens.
You will have to set again the options but not a big deal if you can play huh?

@simplethumb look most of the time, i can change any key so easy, but only specific bind key that has problems in in my ACV...... such as that, bind keys of raven call = HUGr RIP.....

ok, sorry. I must have misunderstood.

    Hello there @arni-GX,

I apologise for the delayed response. Just to clarify, is the issue you're encountering that your keybinding settings reset every time you load the game to default? So after changing your key binding for Hugr Rip from Q to F12, it will reset to Q again after reloading the game. Is this correct?

If this is the case, would you be able to provide us with some additional information?

    • Does this reset only happen for the Hugr Rip command? Or do other custom key bindings reset when reloading the game?
    • Do only your key bindings reset? Or have you noticed other in-game settings resetting (such as difficulty)?
    • Are you able to provide a video which demonstrates the reset happening following a game reset? This would be helpful for investigating this behaviour in-game further.

I'd recommend uploading any videos to a sharing platform, such as YouTube or Google Drive, as this will allow you to post a shareable link within this thread we can take a closer look at.

    Thanks! 😊

    Hi everyone

Since I wrote the post, nothing has changed. I'm still stuck in the main screen. The ticket I had to open on twitter didn't give anything (the same troubleshooting over and over).

I deleted my AC Valhalla.ini, reinstalled my game, reinstalled Ubisoft Connect and my game on my D drive, nothing helped. I'm desperate to the point where I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably never play it.

If anyone finds a solution, please let me know.

    Good raid Vikings...

@Gordan301 Hello! I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having this issue, and I apologize for any frustration caused! I hope we can get this figured out so that you can finally enjoy playing the game. It looks like we had reached out to specialists regarding your case before, and they had asked to try the following troubleshooting:

If that still does not help, what happens if you hit Alt + Tab to switch between windows? Also, could we get a video of the issue to be able to check visually what's happening? Once you have a video, please upload it to a website like YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us here.

    Thank you!
