    Do directives affect exotic drop chance? Can I get an official response please?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    Directives do increase the amount of XP you receive. And they increase the chance of a Targeted Loot drop to appear. This Targeted Loot drop can with a chance of roundabout 1% be an exotic item – if the Targeted Loot you chose does include exotic items (for example choosing backpacks or SMGs can drop an exotic item, while choosing a brand as Targeted Loot will not offer the chance of a Targeted Loot drop being an exotic item... simply because exotics never belong to any brand).

    So by using more Directives, you increase the chance of Targeted Loot dropping for you – and thus with a very slight chance of an exotic item being that Targeted Loot (but only in case you chose a gear like backpack or a weapon like SMG as Targeted Loot).

    Directives do not interfere with the general loot pool and the general chances of loot drops or their quality.

    Hey @nongenuine

    What Noxious81 has written above is correct, you can get exotics through targeted loot and directives improve the drop rate of targeted loot.

    @ubi-froggard I was farming a boss floor in the summit for a Bighorn at legendary difficulty with no directives with no luck for days, but I enabled 3 directives and got the Bighorn in the fifth try. Directives magic there.

    (...) Directives magic there.

    Magic indeed. Or rather just a typical case of luck and bad luck. As stated before: Directives do not affect the chances of exotic items dropping. They only (slightly) affect the chances of Targeted Loot dropping additionally to a regular loot drop.

    (...) That is only a drop rule that applies only to "Summit" Note that it does not apply to Mission replays or free-roam on the MAP (global difficulty). Make no mistake.

    This is incorrect. Directives also affect Targeted Loot inside missions or the open world:

    "Beginning with TU11.1, Directives will increase XP gain and the drop chance for an activity’s Targeted Loot. This applies to all activities in the game." (Source: official Ubisoft news)

    @ubi-froggard Noxious81 says directives do not affect exotic drop chance. Is this true?

    @nongenuine
    Noxious' previous post on this is correct:

    Using more directives means more chance of bonus loot - which might be exotic. It does not affect base loot quality or quantity.
