I acquired all of the "special" runes on the SoP content when I played it on release but only now it has come to my attention that the resistance merchant's inventory doesn't refresh.

Is it not possible to acquire more copies of those runes? If I accidentally sell them are they just lost forever? Not that there is anything game changing about those but it would be a shame to lose something that is irrecoverable. I saved the game and sold those runes just to see if they would show up on that merchant's inventory again but as expected, they didn't.

If that is the case, is it a bug or is it yet another one of those genius things in this game that doesn't make sense/works properly per "design choice"?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@jameslogan491 Hello. Thank you for the report.

Would you clarify the specific runes you do not see available in Pierre's shop?

@ubi_plush I don't know the specific names of each individual rune. It's just all the special runes from the Siege of Paris DLC, the ones you get in the resistance merchant. Once you buy them you can't buy any more copies, which means if you sell any of them by mistake, they are gone. No way to recover it.

Hey @JamesLogan491, thanks for your response there!

So I take it that you've deleted some of these and are no longer able to recover. If this is the case indeed, would you be able to specify which one have you deleted? Also, as this is something that we will need to forward over to our game team for further review, would it be possible for you to advise us what platform you play the game on as well as provide your save file where issue is present? To do so, all you need to do is simply upload it to cloud as per steps outlined here.

Looking forward to hearing from you and if you have any further queries, let us know!

@ubi-karl You got it wrong. I haven't deleted any of those runes. I still have all of them. I'd ask you kindly to read the post again.

I questioned if the resistance's merchant inventory doesn't refresh and that it makes it impossible to acquire more of the special runes. Which means if someone accidentally sold one of those or all of them, they'd be lost.

In the last sentence I question if that is a bug or some not well thought out design choice.

    @jameslogan491 Hello there.

Apologies for our delayed response to you here, and for any previous misunderstanding of your query.

We've reached out to the team to get some further clarification on if these 'special runes' are a 'one time only' purchase or not, and if the shop will refresh.

Thank you for your patience, please feel free to ask us any additional questions in the meantime.

@ubi-nacho No worries. The matter here is that if it is a bug or something that the developers simply didn't think of, than it should be acknowledged and changed/fixed. But if it is a "designe choice" that those are unique, then it is obviously not the wisest decision to let the player accidentally sell those, losing them forever.

@ubi-nacho and how it should be working?

@jameslogan491 This is exactly why I’ve always held on to those runes, even if I don’t use them. If they could be purchased again and again, that would have certainly given me a reason to go back and replay more resistance missions.

@bielik01 Thanks for the CC on this. Good topic to ask about.

@ubi-nacho Thanks. I hope to see those fixed.
Now that I think about it, the new runes that came with Dawn of Ragnarok would have the same problem. They are not replaceable as far as I'm concerned, unless I'm missing something.

@jameslogan491 I also noticed that, there is exactly one instance of each rune in the expansion. With no way of multiplying them.

@bielik01 I think it would have been easier if Ubisoft had just kept the runes/engraving system like it was in Odyssey, it would have been easier for both the players and the development team.
Maybe they thought players would spend silver getting runes and engage with the shameful helix store to buy silver packs.

I really wish the end-game gameplay loop to farm silver and the trading system in this game were a lot better. But that is just hopeless.

@jameslogan491 Great minds think alike. I previously made a case in another thread that having the Odyssey-style engraving system would have made for a much higher degree of player customization for Eivor, and could have encouraged more interest in the store items.

    Hello there,

I apologise for the delayed response. As confirmed by @Ubi-Nacho, the dedicated teams are currently looking into this issue with being able to sell exclusive runes, without being able to acquire these again. They haven't informed us about what the "intended" nature of selling the exclusive runes is (such as being unable to sell them, or the runes becoming available to purchase again), so we would be unable to speculate on what this is.

I've also shared your concerns about the exclusive runes that can be purchased as part of the "Dawn of Ragnarok" expansion as well, so the team can look into these too.

Thanks for sharing your feedback about an engraving system, similar to the one used in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I've passed this feedback along to the dedicated teams for further consideration.

Any updates to the runes in-game will be published within patch notes made available in the News & Announcements forum, so I'd recommend keeping an eye out there for more information.

    Thanks! 😊
