As a trans man it is extremely upsetting that Ubisoft hasn't fixed this yet. There are multiple scenes where even if you are playing as the male Eivor NPCs will still refer to you as "she". I first noticed this with a few side activities, in that case I was willing to give it a pass. Then I found it in a main quest in Essex where Alfida says "yes SHE has", this is simply unacceptable.

These moments where NPCs referred to my character with the wrong pronouns gave me flashbacks to when my family would do that to me. They would deadname me, call me a "she" and treat me as if I were a girl WHEN I AM NOT!!!!

What are you going to do about this Ubisoft?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    Hey @tallydaboy123

Thanks for reaching out! After thorough investigation, the development team is unable to address specific voice line and subtitle alterations. The team must focus on issues that have a comparatively higher impact on gameplay experience.

I apologise for any disappointment caused from this.

@ubi-froggard At first I thought you just saying "hi" was some kind of prank. Then I noticed there's more. For people using light mode, that is.

Can you read that? I can't, without highlighting at least.

@tallydaboy123 Sorry for derailing your thread.

@ubi-froggard I am more than just disappointed! Are you really saying that the mental wellbeing of trans players isn't a priority? You DO know that small gameplay bugs don't cause people mental anguish but these horrible cases of misgendering absolutely DO! The fact that you people can't spare a few resources to fix a rather small but extremely harmful glitch is very telling as to what Ubisoft thinks about their marginalised minority player base.

    Hello there @tallydaboy123,

Firstly, I would like to apologise for any disappointment that the previous official response within this thread has caused. I appreciate you taking the time to share your personal experiences, and to share your feedback regarding the incorrect pronoun use that can sometimes occur whilst playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

I would like to assure you that the dedicated teams have been notified about this issue in-game, and the impact that this can have on a player's gaming experience. At this stage of development, the dedicated teams have confirmed that they are unable to address specific voice line and subtitle alterations, and that there are no currently plans to implement any changes. I understand that this may not be the answer you were hoping for, and I apologise if this affects your ability to enjoy playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

This being said, we understand that misgendering and the incorrect pronoun use can be incredibly significant during the player experience - both inside and out of the game. Though there are currently no plans to update the in-game dialogue at this time, the Player Support team will continue to forward feedback shared regarding this issue to the dedicated teams for further consideration and visibility.

If there are to be any updates to the in-game dialogue, then this information will be shared on our official platforms and via patch notes published within the News & Announcements forum.

If you have any additional feedback you'd like to share, then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

    Thank you 🙂
