This is why they completely broke the aim assist in Valhalla and why it doesn't work like it did in Origins and Odyssey
Ubisoft was unable to program the AI on Zealots, Bosses and some Elite NPCs to actually act intelligently so they took the easy way out. Whenever the crosshairs of a bow crosses the hitbox on the target the target automatically dodges to the side which is a cheesy and easy way to program them. In order for this to work on a handful of NPCs in the game they had to completely ditch the Aim Assist because how Aim Assist worked in Origins and Odyssey is that when the crosshairs crossed the hitbox on an NPC it would lock on to the target. You can't have it work both ways and rather than making the AI more intelligent they took the easy way out and ditched the Aim Assist and kept this lame easy to program dodgy dodge mechanic and in my opinion ruined the game in the process for people like me who loved the bows in Origins and Odyssey. To make matter worse they limit your arrows and in many places like bandit camps and many monasteries they make you waste a lot of arrows because there are so many NPCs many who take more than one arrow to kill but don't have any arrows in the entire camp to replace your losses so you have to break immersion and fast travel to a Trader to replenish your stocks and then fast travel back.

Origins and Odyssey have change direction on aim and at full draw. Valhalla has rush you on aim.
It’s useful because as you only get attacked by one or two enemies while the rest back away until they fall off the map, so you can aim at the one you want to come back to you next or at the others sporadically to keep them from running too far away.
It’s like a fix for a thing they broke that wouldn’t need the fix if they’d done it right, which I think is the tagline for valhalla or something.
