Suppressors when used on rifles IRL need to use subsonic ammunition to be as quiet as they are in the game. As a result they give up plenty of energy (roughly half muzzle energy) and range (trajectory not nearly as flat). Giving them no damage penalty in a game where sound is a huge factor makes them just too obviously OP, eve if there's a slight recoil penalty over other attachments. If you want too buff suppressors and make them more appealing or change the meta a bit, IMO the more realistic and less OP (i.e. better) way to do it is to lessen the muzzle rise, because IRL they put a lot of weight in the muzzle and do reduce muzzle flip a great deal (in rifles particularly). What should have been done IMO for RIFLES is to retain the damage penalty, but to have them behave like muzzle brakes (reduced kick in first / first few shots) but without the lessened effect on lateral spread. For pistols meanwhile, the damage penalty can be removed because most pistol cartridges are subsonic anyway to begin with, but this is the recoil penalty (compared to w/ muzzle brake) can be implemented because pistol suppressors need a recoil booster (Nielsen device) for the pistol to cycle. Also, belt fed LMG should not have suppressor options IMO, in the same way that some guns just can't have barrel extension because they are purpose built compact/CQB weapons (e.g. MP7, SG552).

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
