Vetern player here, I played extensively Division 1 on Playstation and was late to the party for Division 2 on pc, joining around season 3.
I immensely enjoy The Division, its both a setting and shooting game that I can get lost in. Everything from the scenery, to the intense firefights. It is one of the few games out there that no matter what I will buy and play.
I have some ideas for things that I, as a long standing player, would like to see added to the game given the recent announcment of the continuation of its seasons.
These are simply ideas, and the things I discuss for why they should be added are not critiques of those other systems, as will be soon made clear.
First up, Weapons:
This is likely the easiest one, the talents however to pair with them is much more in depth.
Non-Named/Exotic
XM-5/The Spear: The Sig MCX spear would be a perfect addition to the game. Though I believe it should be an AR, I can see the argument for it being a Rifle. It should have average stability/handling and extended range, combined with a very good rate of fire and high damage per bullet.
NGSW-AR: The Light Machine gun variant of the MCX from Sig Sauer. Similar to the XM5, it should have good stability and extended range, with excellent damage and average rate of fire.
P320/M17/M18: This to me is a no-brainer. A version is already in the game in a compact version for the gunner. Just add full size variants into the general loot pool.
Named/Exotic:
The Spear/XM5: An Exotic variant of the XM5, This version would have the Integrated suppressor and the Vortex Smart Optic (Allowing it to switch from magnified to not, like the GR9). This would also give access to another AR or Rifle that isn't locked behind raids, or legendary missions. We basically have the Chameleon and Capacitor, or Diamondback and Merciless/Ruthless.
The Unknown Soldier: An exotic variant of the P320. Its a beautiful pistol, and given our DC location it could definitely be a pistol to be found there. Has no attachments other than the sheer power it commands by name and appearance. (Look up Tomb of the Unknown Soldier pistols for reference.)
Talents:
Some background to my thought process of these talents and why I believe they should be added.
In the current state of the game, while there is large build variety, there also is very little.
Allow me to clarify, skill Builds are renowned for being fairly dominant for any activity, and there's lots of ways to do them.
Gun builds, however, fall into two dominat categories. No matter your gear or skills, you either endevour to max out crit chance and damage, or headshot damage. While there are allot of ways to make the build unique with gear, your core distribution, and skills, you will be underperfoming if you dont reach the certain threshold for crit or headshot.
Again, not a critique of that, simply a statement of the facts, and I think most would agree with the assessment.
These talents aim to break away from that in a wholly different way. Now, which weapons these should be attached to is a point of discussion.
High Velocity Ammunition: Now, this is simple and complicated at the same time. In theory it would operate similar to how sadist and other talents like that work, except applying only to staggered enemies. Also we currently have high velocity ammo you can get in game that has a higher stagger chance.
This combines the two, so while an enemy is staggered, you deal increased damage to them in a similar fashion that sadist would, but you also have a chance to stagger them by simply shooting them. This can either be a chance per shot, or after 5 shots they automatically become staggered (maybe 10 if its on AR or LMG)
Another version for possibly the Exotic maybe? What if for every percent of crit chance you DONT have, your stagger chance increases by that amount. So max crit chance is 60%, if you only have 10% (minimum due to keeners watch) you now get 50% more chance to stagger or 50% more stagger strength, or maybe even 50% more damage to staggered enemies. Could also apply to damage, the less crit damage you have, the more damage to staggered enemies you can do, or maybe your crit damage applies to staggered enemies.
Given the new Hybrid ammo for the XM5 and NGSW-AR we have in the real world, I believe both are fitting for this talent, and it's perfect version to be on them, or a version of this on the Exotic.
The Unknown Soldier: I haven't fully fleshed this out, but for the exotic version bearing the same name, perhaps increased damage per enemy shooting or engaging you. It would give tank builds a means to further their damage a little, and give them something other than the Liberty to use. So instead of healing shield, it gives more damage based on enemies engaging you while its equipped.
Again, this is all rough, I am by no means a game designer or balancer. But I would like to see another way for gun builds to operate beyond just crit or headshot.
Skills:
This one is controversial and much harder to implement likely. I love the skills from the first game and the skills in the second game. We have super high tech stuff which is awesome, but i think we could all benefit from maybe calling back to simpler stuff.
Things like the Support Station (which I used all the time) and Mobile Cover. These things could be implemented again. Like the support station, have it reinforce cover and refill ammo, but let it scale off red attributes as well, like the shields do off blue. This would give red core builds a more focused skill they could make use of without sacrificing their ability to deal damage.
You could also have them be EMP proof, as the support station and Mobile Cover are mechanical advantage, so them being disrupted doesn't make any sense, but given my shield can just explode or not be deployed if I am disrupted or jammed, its not very likely.
I could go in on signature weapons and their by and large uselessness and how signature skills like the first division would make more sense, but untill we hear more about the specialization revamp its not important.
Apparel:
This is short and sweet.
Hunters, I wanna see more hunter apparel, not just mask variants. New boots, clothing everything, Hunters are likely as diverse as agents and I would love to see more variation in the apparel design we have of them.
Agents: We are division agents, while I enjoy all the gear and looks we have, there is something to be said about people cosplaying and art showing Division agents from the first game. They have a very particular look, Division 1 was the pioneer of that look. More apparel showing that style of Division agents would be a breath of fresh air. Sometimes I look at my agent and he just seems like another soldier, so seeing more variations and a summer time style of that original look would be awesome.
Helemts and Ear Pro: This one likely only bugs a few people, but given the amount of gunfire and explosion in the setting, I want to see more helmet variation and EAR PRO. I could go in on how practically all our agents and enemies are likely deaf, but I won't. More helmet/hat and ear pro combinations are very much needed.
Again this is all rough ideas for weapons, talents and skill, but let me know what you guys think, maybe we could see some of what I mentioned in the future.
