It's a complicated combination TBH. Actually it might only happen with certain multi-monitor configs and not all. And ye I suspect this specific multi monitor issue to be isolated to 3000 series and the new drivers.

    @eniora I don't even have a second monitor.

People keep saying that 456.xx onwards drivers have been causing the crashes but I rolled back to the 446.14 drivers and I still had crashes. Can anyone whos currently using a 44x.xx driver guide me and tell me which driver is the most stable.

What card do you have and drivers? As I said, it can happen with one monitor if high refresh rate or G-Sync enabled. If so, try to lower down the refresh rate if it's above 60hz or disable G-Sync if enabled and test.

The crashing is so random. Sometimes I can play several hours in a row without crashing. And sometimes it crashes every 5 minutes. And it has nothing to do with hardware for me. Ubisoft connect is the culprit for me.

@eniora 1060 6GB. No secondary monitor. No Gysnc and only 60Hz. Any drivers above 45x.xx crashes. 44x.xx and below = absolutely zero crashes even with overclock.

Nothing to do with multiple screens or 3xxx series cards. Only using 1 screen with a GTX 1070 and crashing frequently. At least they seem aware since they released a (non-working) hotfix that was supposed to fix this.

@skylinee87 I'm sure and drivers, I tested my old 1660 ti video card with driver 44 ... it didn't crash for two days, I updated to the latest driver and the game crashes, I went back to my RT70 3070 and unfortunately sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't have days q works for hours has days hangs every 5 minutes.

When you downgrade especially several versions or if you have installed numerous driver versions you really need to run a program like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) IN THE SAFE MODE to clean up all the files and especially to clean up all the old entries in the Windows Registry ..... I use it about every 3 or 4 driver version installs (6-8 months since I don't install every driver when it come out unless there is a good reason to do so)

I had several nvlddmkm.sys crashes, they were usually rare untill tonight when I got about three in less than 5 hours session
they just added a hotfix for the latest nvidia driver

    https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5152/~/geforce-hotfix-driver-version-461.33

they are addressing specifically [Assassin's Creed Valhalla] Game may randomly crash after extended gameplay [200679654]

    I hope it works 🤞

@daredevil313 You should read the last 2 pages, the hotfix is useless and "fixed" nothing regarding Valhalla.

I have the same problems reported in this thread. Intel 7, RTX 2080 32 GB. I played AC Valhalla 100h (75% progress) when the problems began with the patch published christmas 2020. Crashes to desktop or bluescreens concerning nvlddmkm.sys nearly every 15 to 30 mins. I tried everything: clear new install of the game, clear install nvidia driver (newest and older ones), memtest and several tips from the internet concerning nvlddmkm.sys. Very frustrating, I played a lot of Uplay games (ac origins, odyssey, Division 1,2, Ghost Recon 1,2, Far Cry 3-5, Watch dogs 2). Never experienced such a crap.

    What helped me?
    1. Uninstall completely msi afterburner and nvidia tuner.
    2. Uninstall evga precision

    3. Go into windows safe mode.and use DDU. (display driver uninstaller). Try to choose nvidia gpu select clean and restart.

Before reebot disconnect completely from internet. (sometimes windows 10 automatically install drivers if u have an internet connection).

After ddu finish job and restarted u need to install newest nvidia drivers offline (u need to download them before and keep on hard drive).
After installing drivers restart pc and then connect to the internet.

Its important to use ddu only on safe mode and do things only in offline.

It helps me. Remember do clean driver install and do not install any fps showing software lole msi after burner and evga precision. (if u have them installed and just not runnning it not help).
    4. After all of this try in windows cmd type sfc /scannow
    It scan any corrupted files.
5.remember to have two separate cables connected to the gpu. One cable with two 8 pins could not be enought for top cards. Always use one cable for every 8 pin.

Ok guys I think I may be on to something....as someone suggested here, lowering the monitor refresh rate or turning off gsync may stop the crashing, so just for the heck of it I lowered the ingame refresh from 120hz (My Monitors default refresh rate) to 60hz and Ive had 4 sessions of about 5 hours each playing the game for the past 2 days with ZERO crashes. Now, I told a friend of mine who was also experiencing these crashes to do this, he has a 60hz monitor however so Ive told him to lower it to 30hz, I know that eww for PC gamers but I really want to try out this experiment in order to get some concrete evidence which may lead us to the main culprit, which is to my understanding atm this: The game simply cant work on a monitor's default refresh rate. This means that if you have a 60hz monitor, the game will crash at 60hz unless you lower it, same applies to 120hz 144hz etc.

Now, although this is currently just my hypothesis and I aim to continue playing the game for a couple more days in order to extensively test this out, but I want all of you to try this as well, lower your refresh rate INGAME to any number other than the highest your monitor can output (Which is the default for your desktop). Also, keep in mind I am using the latest graphic drivers.

Apologies for the long post but I just wanted to share this cuz Im feeling really confident about this, I think we may be close to cracking this. I'll keep yall updated of me and my friends further testing with the lower refresh rate gaming.

One thing you could try on 60 Hz monitors is go into the Nvidia control panel and in the program settings for Valhalla set the Max Frame Rate to 59 and leave refresh at 60 Hz

@longjohn119 i'm playing on 2k 240 hz monitor without problems and finish the game.
The only thing that i do is disable g sync in monitor.

    @xtrior

As I said before but people kept ignoring me for some reason, the latest nvidia drivers and especially with this game are crap and don't work well with some monitor(s) configuration. I had two monitors connected and all the crashes stopped for good after I disconnected my second monitor. I am not saying this is a definite fix for everyone because some of you don't have have two monitors, but something is up with the drivers and they aren't stable at all.

It has been said in many forums that the nvidia drivers since the 3000 series broke many monitors setups with blackscreen crashes/hangs and what not, Gsync is almost broken for many as well. And those drivers are bad even for non-3000 series cards.

Valhalla itself is a bugfest with their new ubi connect app, and with these new drivers it just got worse.

More proof regarding monitor compatibility issues with these drivers:

i had my game crashing as often as every 3-5 mins sometimes. also while in main menu.
For me the fix have been setting power target at 90% and disable Nvidia OSD.
Nvidia OSD helped with crashes but the power target was the real problem for me. the moment i set it to 90% my crashes stop.
In total i have had i think 1-2 random crashes since, this being after about 10 hours of gameplay
