The skill is from an ability book, not the quest or the wolf. You get it from somewhere with a higher power score later than the quest. Can't remember where. The dog is not interactable with you, only a passing comment made for realism by you character. The dog does not come with you, nor travel with you at any moment. The skill gets upgraded from "dog attack him" to "dog stay and fight for a while" with another skill book upgrade. Also the wolf and the fox wander round the settlement, they're not fixed to that one location. Walk off, come back, they might have returned.

I completed the quest but I did not receive the "man's best friend" ability. The wolf is outside of my longhouse but I cannot interact with it.

I literally watched someone unlock the skill at the end of the quest.

I am have this same issue on PC. I completed this quest and was not awarded the ability but was unaware about the reward until it I was way farther into the game. It was awarded when I picked up the book in Lunden which normally would upgrade the ability to level 2 but I am stuck with level 1.

A bigger thread with the same issue. More likely to be heard by support there.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying - I've merged as many threads for this issue as I could find into this one megathread, so this will now be the core space to discuss and report this issue. It may have made some of the previous conversations a little disjointed, so sorry for that as well! Some polite requests, though - please do not bump the thread by posting repeatedly without any new information, and please do not derail this thread by posting about separate issues, even if they're with the same quest. Please create a separate thread if the issue is not exactly the same. Thank you!
This issue was already reported to the devs following reports of the issue made via our ticketing system. They have been unable to reproduce the issue so far, so would like to collect the following from as many players as possible, as previously requested in the thread by my colleague Ubi-Baron:
- A video demonstrating the issue (Pastrygator, I'll submit yours to the team now, thank you very much for taking the time to prepare one already!)
- Confirmation of what activities / quests you completed before or during the "A Little Problem" questline
- Confirmation of whether you experienced any other issues with the quest aside from not receiving the "Man's Best Friend" ability
Thank you all for your time, and thank you in advance for any information provided!

Having the same issue, I completed the quest the wolf is in my longbhouse but no ability. Doesn't show up in completed quests, and I didn't realize I was supposed to get the ability untill hours of gameplay later so i don't know when I saved it last. I would 4ather not restart the game because honestly I've done a lot and would not be willing to do it all over again knowing bugs will probably cause me more grief.

@ubi-woofer Just to add to my video, I think (I'm not 100% sure) I did this quest immediately after waking up for the first time from Asgard after upgrading the Seer's tent to a house. I did not encounter any abnormalities doing the quest itself besides it apparently not completing properly and awarding the skill. Thanks for acknowledging the problem and glad to help!

Follow up to my previous response because I didn't give much detail and there was actually some other strange behaviour with the wolf in settlement (apologies that the video is a little dark, if it is actually much help I can try to re-record)
- can not recall what quests I had completed before the issue, believe it was shortly after upgrading to level 3 settlement, however I remember going through with the quest (naming the wolf and and returning along side the children to the village), I thought I remembered getting a quest complete notification once I had returned to the village although now don't see it in my quest log.
- The behaviour in the video happens when I fast travel back to my settlement (roughly 10 hours after a little problem in the save file) and can be repeated once every time I load the save. The wolf movement doesn't always bug out but the blank quest seems to trigger either when the child gets back to his tent or when the wolf goes to sit by the seers hut. Don't think I saw anyone else mention a blank quest complete being added to their quest log so not sure if it may be a seperate issue, but assumed it was trying to retroactively complete "a little problem", either way I still don't have access to the man's best friend perk.

@ubi-woofer I warned a friend about the quest before he did it.
First time he did it he also failed to get the ability, so he reloaded and did it again, what he did differently was to keep the wolf close to him as he got back to the settlement. He even killed some deer that wolf started attacking so it would keep following.
In my own case I just forgot about the wolf entirely and escorted the kids back to town, I saw the quest completed pop up, however there was no ability gained. The quest never went into the completed log which I checked way later of course.
I've also seen a few other support the idea that the wolf needs to be close to you when you hand the quest in for the ability to pop up.
I can't sadly remember what quests I did before or after but I've been very greedy with doing monastery raids so I had upgraded my settlement very high before doing the pledge quests, the moment I saw the kid in my long house I instantly started the quest. I might have tested out the bed for the first time because I think I met him on the way out of my room.
Apart from the ability, no issues with the quest except that I forgot to check where the wolf was so he was probably off attacking something. This thing with getting attacked by random hostile npcs also seems to be a rather reoccuring theme throughout the game stopping conversations on horseback with friendly NPCs constantly.
If anyone has a save game at this quest and can make a video, try testing the range to the wolf idea. Do the quest with both the wolf near and far away from you when going back to the settlement. Sadly I gave up on the idea of going back so I have replaced the save game by now.

Checking in with this same glitch on PC... I never knew you were supposed to get anything from this quest other than a wolf with a silly name who wanders around the longhouse and howls up a racket every now and then. Definitely never got an ability

I can't say for sure what quests I was on when I completed the "A Little Problem" questline but I believe I had already completed all quests in Grantebridgescire and was working on quests in either Ledecestrscire or East Anglia as I completed these zones in this order and had not yet started Lunden. I received the ability after picking up the book in Lunden and by then I wasn't able to go back to a previous save before the quest to try again once I found out that I should have been granted level two of the ability.
The quest did the completion animation but I don't recall it showing a reward and the wolf was wandering around in the camp/longhouse after. I did just check my completed quest log and I am not showing the quest in the list.

@ubi-baron Here is my video, where you can see the wolf separates from us after the bridge while we are getting closer to our settlement. The quest was done right after a fresh start of the game. Before that I made "The Huntress" quest.
Now I have the ability from a book at lvl 1, but I'm waaaay overhead now around ~20 hours...

same issue here, what's even more annoying is that the quest doesn't show as completed, or as a current one. the wolf was sleeping at the end of my bed just chilling however -_-
I found the skillbook for the skill, so I've got it at lvl 1.. would really love it if ubisoft fixed the damn quest already =(
also reloading saves wouldn't really work as I did the quest about 20 ingame hours ago -___-
