    Hi
Played for quite a while since launch, no major issues. Today I updated Windows 10 to Insider Build 20257, after which AC Valhalla will not launch. I click play in Ubisoft Connect, or run the game EXE and the small square-ish Teal AC logo pops up for about 10 seconds and then disappears. I checked Task Manager and the game EXE file just closes without going to fullscreen.
I was running Nvidia 457.30 drivers on a 2070 Super, AMD 3700x, 32GB Ram. As I said the game was running fine before this OS update.
I also tried downgrading video drivers to prior version, same issue. Also tried the 457.33 Vulkan beta Nvidia drivers, same issue.
My system is dual boot, with a "vanilla" Non-Insider version of Windows. The game runs great with the Non-Insider version (19041.630).

Anyone else using the latest Windows 10 Insider build have a similar issue?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Wow...it appears you have just confirmed my theory as to why for the life of me, i CANNOT get this god damn game to work!

Here is a experpt from a thread i posted earlier today:

To anyone out there having this same issue, I'm curious, what version of Windows are you running? I am a Windows Insider on the Dev channel, so I have the absolute newest release possible, which is Windows Preview Build: 20257.1. I'm thinking it's possible this issue has something to do with this particular release of Windows. I have never had a preview build cause something like this before though so I am skeptical, but nothing else seems to be the culprit at this point. And as I stated earlier, AC Odyssey used to run fine on my system, that is doesn't now tells me that something on my system has changed and whatever it is is most likely responsible for causing the issue, and since i have not made any hardware changes, my suspicions of this Windows build being the culprit grow.

More specifically, i believe it has something to do with DX12 and something this Windows build is doing that is not allowing the game to launch.

Notice whats missing for ACV? Create a D3D12 device! Followed by "Sending Overlay Start Request" which immedietely proceeds the game launching.
