I played both AC Origins and Odyssey comfortably at 80-85 fps with high-ultra settings on my G-Sync ultrawide monitor (3440x1440) with a 2080 Ti. Valhalla has me at 50-70 fps no matter what I do with the settings or resolution scale and looks like a slideshow.

The performance in this game is shocking. For something so graphically intensive and that has supposedly had more workload shifted to the GPU why is my 2080 Ti only using 60-70% of it's TDP? Something is totally off with the performance of this game and I am not enjoying it one bit because of it.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

I'd be curious to hear from other ultrawide players what their experience is.

@kolack I have an RTX 2080 and get ~60 fps which is probably also ~10 fps less than in Odyssey but considering everything going on in one scene and the next-gen graphics, this is pretty solid.

The GPU usage in my case is at ~94%. If you have only 60-70% GPU usage, that would suggest that there is a bottle neck somewhere else in your system, e.g. the CPU.
(in my case CPU usage is at 40-50%, so if anything, the GPU is a bottle neck in my case)

What is the temperature of your GPU, cause it could be also an overheating issue.

I think the screen resolution is the issue. Lowering settings doesn't have any impact on the fps which suggests it's the general rendering of things that's struggling at this resolution. I checked Nvidia Geforce Experience today and it actually recommends me to set the screen resolution to 2560x1440. Perhaps that speaks for itself. However you cannot set 2560x1440 in the game and keep the 21:9 aspect ratio. Instead you get 2560x1440 stretched over the whole screen which is not usable. The reason we buy high refresh rate monitors is so we can enjoy the smoothness in gaming that a high refresh rate provides. With top tier GPU's I think this expected. Hopefully we will get some more optimization which improves things for ultrawide resolutions.

My GPU is watercooled and runs at 42-44C in this game. What I meant was 60-70% power draw. A 2080 Ti has a power draw of 120% (or 350-380W). The max I've seen in the game was 300W but it averages at around just 220W (60-70%) TDP... My GPU usage is also around 94%.
