Fishing from a small boat the fish disappears, which may be a game mechanic but when this happens my player character continues as if still reeling in and glitches to where I have no control over the character.
Only solution is to fast travel.

Had something similar happen to me. I was fishing on a small boat near the coast and as i was pulling the fish in it passed straight under the boat and then just kept going at high speed until it dissappeared and my line teleported to behind me where i first hooked the fish and my character stuck looking at where the fish dissappeared.

@cappe87 I'm having this issue a lot out of the small boat. No matter what I do, cannot 'land' the fish. Just send under the boat and around and around, I have to eventually let it go. Move to a different spot, works fine again, sometimes, then bugs out like that again. Only has happened at sea or along eastern coastline so far. Any fix found for this?

@guest-pgnfouth I'm having the same issue. I find a spot that has the fish I need. I need a boat cause they aren't by the coast, and I can't actually catch the fish, I can only hook them. Extremely annoying for a completionist gamer haha. I don't see ubisoft acknowledging this bug either.

I'm in the same small oat as the rest of you, can't land the fish in the small boat, just swim under and round and round no matter what you do you can not land it.

I'm having the same issue, both with small boats and the viking longshop. I can hook them, but they just swim around under the boat, then suddenly deploy their boat motor and zoom off into the distance.

I'm on PS5 & this is a massive issue for me as well. Hook a fish but all it does is swims around under & behind the boat until it breaks off. I've had a gutfyll of these useless fools at Ubifail. Nearly 7 months after release & Ubifail still can't sort out their crap to fix basic bugs that have been happening since release. They alleged that they fixed the long standing fishing bugs regarding non existent big fish but as far as I can see fishing is still absolutely crap useless if you're trying to find the big fish that were & still are bugged because while you can now hook them, you still can't land them & complete the fishing challenges. Ubifail has a lot to answer for with their pathetic laziness in fixing this game to a functional standard. At least Bugthesda would've fixed most issues this extreme 7 months later, what's Ubifail's excuse?

I don’t want to hear you people whining any longer about “yeah we know, we’re trying to fix it”. You responded to this nearly a month ago & you people have still done nothing to fix it. 7 months after release & you useless incompetents still haven’t fixed fishing, 7 goddamned months I’ve been trying to finish the fishing challenges AND THEY’RE STILL BROKEN!!! FIX IT ALREADY!!!!!!

@caraamon Apologies for the late response. I have looked into this issue and this was supposed to be fixed on the current update 1.2.1. As you are still experiencing this could you please provide a video to show that you still experience this on small boats and the long ship and I will forward it on to the development team to investigate further.
@SneekyWeasel As I mentioned above, this issue should have been fixed in the latest update. If you have the latest update installed could you also provide a video to show that you are still experiencing this so we can investigate the issue further.
I understand that you are frustrated, however we are here to provide you with support and do not appreciate abusive comments, so please keep your comments civil. We posted a developers blog back in April explaining the process for fixing bugs. Please have a read of this as it may give you a better understanding on how bugs are reported and fixed.
