Ok, normally i dont take my time to rant on a forum, but this waste'o 60bucks finally triggered me enough.
- Regular enemies are so weak that u must be mentally disabled to die to them.
- Fanatics are outright CHEATS:
- They have godmode against ANY melee attack that is not an ability or a parry counter.
- You just hit em in da face with your 2h axe? No problemo, a true fanatic does not even stumble but instantly dashes out an unavoidable combination of counter attacks that take away 90% of your health.
- Their unparryable ridiculously hard hiting red rune attacks are faster than their soft hiting regular attacks. LOL! Intuitive and reasonable design!
- You might think using counter roll (raven tree ability) is a good option for fighting a red rune attack? I did. Let's see what happens: Their attack hits you, takes away 50% of your health and after you recovered from it your character runs towards them, now doing the counter roll. GG, well refined, perfectly responsive animations and controls!
- Oh and.... after performing the counter roll 70% of all times they just turn around and block your attack aimed at their back, loughing at you. True fanatics have muscles like an ox that allows them turning their shield in 180° at ninja-reflex-lightning-speed after somebody has rolled over their back with his full body's weight!
- RNG was finally with you and you landed a hit? Congratulations to taking away 3% of their health bar.
As a dark souls enthusiast I can only say: Please get new designers and coders for your company. You current ones are bad at it.

Oh boy, i just started this, now i'm thinking i should
go back to Odyssey!, lol.
I could even upload proof of that [censored], but i dont know if uploading gameplay recorded with OBS is a copyright violation.
Man the feeling of fighting a cheating enemy is so frustrating i just lost my entire motivation to go on playing this game. Never had such a bad gaming experience in my life...

@beluga25 The combat in this game is terrible but it adds a bunch of little things that 'Odyssey' didn't have, like the little stories you find at every POI or the puzzles scattered around the world. It's a good game if you can find peace with the combat system - which gets a lot better around the 30 hour mark, when you've gained a decent list of skills to help offset the terrible vanilla combat.

I have to disagree, combat in Valhalla is new. Beside the bugs, its more in par with For Honor or WitcherIII . Getting used to its timing is essential.
First time around you deliberately build your own combat around the gear you maintain and tune.
I simply newer had so much fun in AC combat then here.
The combat system has so much potential that just went to waste. Actions are buged, desynced, unresponsive, just.... clunky. I'd really like to upload some examples with counter roll

Had similar issue when facing one of the daughters of Lorian (think that's spelt right). When the combat system works, it's great fun, I actuallly managed to defeat a few of the zealots and it was fun because the combat system worked properly. When it bugs out it's so bad, like I've dodged away from an attack, but that game bugs and I just don't move (despite having stamina, pressing right buttons etc.)

I can agree that the game is clunky, but in different ways.
The parkour can be annoying, because the input is delayed, like you are lagging, and even the loot seems to be delayed as well, it takes like 1-2 seconds to display what you looted.
Also, there is no Hold to Sprint, out of all the things, this is missing, and it's annoying, I hope Ubisoft adds this with the next update.

Personally I think they should improve the system of dual welding for instance if you have a small axe and a big axe you would only use one of them while your secondary hand is doing nothing just a thought.

Ahh it's not just me. I thought maybe coming from Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which combat system is very fluid and fun, had made this one feel really bad. I've played every Assassin's Creed games, and don't remember my character feeling so slow and sluggish. I liked where things were headed with Odyssey, but this feels like they took a wrong turn. I mean it isn't just fighting people, but doing things like breaking a box takes me 4 or 5 missed swings, even when I'm pushing in direction of the box to break. Hopefully they can do some patching to make it flow better.
I agree.... the whole game is pretty clunky.
it’s weird, I’d say the combat is actually more fun than Odyssey — but it’s still pretty crappy.
Odysseys problem was normal attacks didn’t do enough damage. It made the combat feel overly long and then just grindy, repetitive, exposing what was a pretty simple combat system.
but this games combat — is waaaaaay too easy on normal enemies.

The camera is too far away (compared to Origins/Odyssey) and the swing animation too fast, which give the feeling that Eivor is a kungfu bionic ninja.
They said that they added weight to the characters but I see none, in fact Eivor looks like he/she has no mass by jumping around at the speed of light: it reminds me a World of Warcraft melee character.

At first no I was not a big fan of combat. With a lot of games including Odyssey you had to reach a certain level before things really get fun and combat smooths out.
I suggest trying some different weapon combos, it could just be you need to find what works for you. Or change weapons for the situation.
I have to say I’m starting to enjoy this game more.
i’m starting to get to grips with the combat and in all honesty it’s much better than what was there in Odyssey.
but that said it’s still not that great.
and to be perfectly honest it seems to be a balancing issue.
There seems to be no gradient / difficulty curve with regards to challenge with the enemies. Enemies seem easy to defeat the only difference being in higher power level areas is that they simply can one-shot you. They don’t seem to be any tougher to fight....
And then there’s just the difficulty spikes when you face enemies like the zealots. On the whole there doesn’t seem to be any kind of middleground.

I have played Dark Souls, Sekiro, and all previous major AC titles.
Personally I enjoy the Valhalla combat system; parrying and going for the weak points for a highly satisfying death-blow is real fun. However like some have said here, the difficulty just spikes when facing Zealots, and the legendary animals, and sometimes the fights can get a little unfair. Their unblockable attacks are sometimes so fast it is simply impossible to react in time.
