    Hi

I've just started playing and I'm getting frequent hard crashes. The game instantly drops back to the desktop and I get the crash reporter dialog. This happens during both regular gameplay and cut-scenes.

Any suggestions for things to try?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Happening to me also at random times. Many players are experiencing the same thing. Believe problem is on Ubisoft's end.

I paused the game to go and get some water, when I came back it had crashed. It literally crashed on the pause screen. Sheesh.

So, after much experimentation, I believe I've solved my own crashing issues. I've now run the game off-and-on from 10:00 a.m. to now (roughly 6 hours) and haven't experienced a single crash to desktop. Before the recent changes to my setup I was crashing often, a few times per playthrough.

So, the secret? Reduce your memory output. Yeah, that's it. Just go to Options>Screen and look at the memory indicator in the bottom-right. If you have an 8 GB card like I do, it will show a slider with the top end being 8,000 MB (your available RAM). I got mine down in the 4,000 range by reducing some settings and switching to 2K from 4K.

Does the game look as nice as it did? No. Does it seem to no longer crash after 1 or more hours of playing? Yes.

I honestly believe that this game does not use memory well. I'm not sure if it is related to all of the Ubisoft Connect bloat that is running in memory or that there is one or more memory leaks in this particular game. But, my recommendation is (at least until a patch fixes this) to lower your setting to around half of your available RAM. So, if you have a 6 GB card, lower settings so you are using up 3 GB, etc.

Hopefully that will help some folks.
