The briton shield for example requires you to parry in order to restore health, the drekar shield however requires you to block in order to restore health.

When i see a yellow incoming attack, i press Q to deflect that attack, however does this count as a parry or as a block?
To me both seem to be the same?

So i am a bit confused, cannot find any definition of either within the codex or when pressing V for details on these items either.

Then there is the Thegn set that increase CHC when parrying, but at the same time denies you back damage.
However counter roll is super nice to evading the red attacks and staying close to the enemy especialy when you play as melee, so wouldnt the thegn set be kinda dumb?

    Thnx

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@asgardian02 Think parry is counter attack after the block (pressing 'R") or longer holding LB, can't see or it restores some health though.

Correct me if I am wrong.

A block is holding the button for blocking, but for a parry, it is pressing the block button just before the enemy hits Eivor. If successful, Eivor would swing her shield outward and the enemy would wobble a bit.

@imaginaryruins Correct. You can parry with anything by tapping the off hand button at the right time. Block is holding the shield button.

@asgardian02 Light shields you can move with and still block, heavy shields you can't.

Are there any advantages of blocking? Is it staggering the enemy?

A perfectly timed parry is counteractive, completely depletes the opponent's stun bar or makes them to stagger which gives you a window to finish the fight.

While blocking just holding the block button and waiting for the opponent's attack to activate some perks. It just feels out of pace for me.

    From the French, Parrer, Bloquer
Parrer: to avoid damage from hitting you (evading movements for instance)
Bloquer: take the attack but stop it from damaging you (absorb through armor or block with weapon/shield for instance)
