Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Dev Blog: Update Pipeline (ubisoft.com)

    Finally Ubisoft shows some transparency!

This Blog was a really great decision and hopefully they keep it ongoing.

I like that they want to test their updates more but it would have been a better decision to release focussed and smaller bugfixing patches every two weeks and the big updates every 4 or 5 weeks. Now we need to wait 5 weeks (instead of 4) for every title update, so we need to live with new bugs for much longer.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

It was definitely a detailed description of what they do for a living.

Most developers tell you nothing and expect you to put up, shut up, and keep buying their products.

Not everyone is interested in reading everything that they wrote in that blog, though. It doesn't talk about anything bug-specific that they are working on. It's more like reading a job description that lays out the perfect excuse as to why they need more time.

Strange thing is, they aren't really asking for a whole lot of time, so I'm not sure why they felt the need to go into such detail.

They are being overly polite. Canadians are good that way. Until you meet them on the ice with a hockey puck and a few sticks.

At least they talked about the fish bug which plagues us all since launch. Ubisoft should have done this communication since launch.

The next step would be that they give us some Dev Blog about the PC version of Valhalla which has many issues that are PC-specific.

Oh thank God that you managed to wrap up your internal chaos 6 months after launching the game.

For the trained eye this denotes that the Product Delivery piece is severely broken, or at least was and this announcement stands as some sort of damage control in response to the constant criticism, after finally formalizing an internal SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) process. That would be laudable if that process was in place by the launch date, but no, selling a wicker man and leaving the customer side to deal with the game quality frustration and poor support is a better option.

EDIT: Thank you for believing in the magic of Agile. I suggest "The Pheonix Project" or "The Goal" as subsequent reading

Ubisoft released the same dev blogs with Unity after the buggy launch but it took them just 2 or 3 weeks to release those blogs, not 6 months. Also we got some free DLC instead of a "godly gift" with Altair armor without cloth physics which we would have gotten anyway for free with Ubisoft coins...
