@lordlenry I couldn't equip a longsword and axe at the same time as I don't have that skill yet but I was able, after many attempts, to break the bar on the door using a two-handed axe on its own. Thanks for posting the video, I'm glad that I can now move on with this quest.
I ran into this quest breaking bug tonight and it has really soured the game for me. The quest giver is an important character and the source of more quests, but he'll be rendered useless if this quest cannot be completed.
I hope the developers are working on a fix for this, and the other broken quests and problems players are having, as I have no wish to continue playing now.
It'll teach me not to pre-order a game and instead wait a few months until patches have been released.
Early on in the crossover DLC I moved a shelf to access a hut with a locked chest under the floor in Kiltaraglen. At that time I didn't look for a key to unlock the chest. After exploring more of the island and gathering several of the shards, I have returned to the hut and found the key hanging from a tree branch outside, only now I cannot get at the key because the shelf I moved earlier to climb through the hut window has disappeared.
I have tried shooting the key, climbing on a horse, climbing the tree and jumping from the roof of the hut towards the key but nothing works. I am not loading a save from several hours ago just to loot a chest but I am disappointed that bugs like this are still happening.
A similar bug in London caused me to shelve the game for over six months until it had been sufficiently patched, maybe I should wait until the new DLC drops in March before playing again.

One of the things I enjoyed in FC 5 was driving around, with a companion using the vehicle mounted weapon, taking out the enemy as we travelled. Unless I'm missing something in FC 6, vehicle weapons are only useful for coop players due to the lack of human companions, which is a big disappointment, especially when I'm trying to escape from a particularly fubar situation.
I initially hoped that random npc guerrillas would hop in and use the turret but that doesn't seem to be the case, which makes it rather unfair that the soldadesca can have a vehicle driver and turret operator in the same vehicle. Because of this I very rarely use the vehicles as you're a sitting target when things kick off.
I suppose it's too late now to hope that the game can be patched to make vehicle weapons useful for solo players by allowing friendly npcs to hop in and operate them, but I guess I can hope.
