Good luck to all of us here in this particular post. I have the feeling there will be more of us before this gets resolved.
Now that they know I am a retired 3rd level network/computer engineer they seem to be "hammering" me the most with questions.
The latest being ... "While checking over your files and notes here, can you clarify if you did a recent computer reformat and if so, when?"
Below the dashed line is my response to them ... (I REALLY wish they would simply take my advice and look into the "changed" startup code.)
If you read my response you will see four words in the line mentioned from the "update 13" log file that stand out ... "Start Waiting for TextLanguage". After that line in the log nothing else happens. In previous games (that worked before the 13 update) there are many entries after that point, but that line is not present in ANY working game log. It ONLY appears AFTER the update 13. (You may want to check your logs to see if this is true as well .. go to "your username"/Documents/Anno 1800/log. The files names have the date and time of that particular game session.
Sorry if it seems I'm "rambling on" but I have a history of troubleshooting problems and know where to look. Blue Byte seems to be oblivious to this (or either stubborn.) They ask us for more "files" which is (generally) ONLY a way to buy them time and appease us. Too bad we can't fly to Germany and strike (peacefully of course) outside their office.
--------------
No, I have NOT performed "a recent computer reformat."
You guys really ARE grasping for straws aren't you ...
Something you MAY want to look into are the two game log files I've attached ....
The one dated 2021-09-29 was the last one I have where the games worked.
The one dated 2021-12-14 is after the 13 update and the game is broken.
What is interesting is the last line in the 13 update log has the line ending with ... "SendTelemetryMarker: UI-Flow: Start Waiting for TextLanguage"
There is NO such line in any of the logs before where the game worked.
SO ... obviously the game startup code has changed significantly. Please look into that rather than keeping me busy checking my machine.
Come on guys ... you can figure this out!
@ubi-mushy
You said that "This has been reported to the team, and they're working on a fix." Are they ALSO going to look into the issue of the "scrolling" issue where you can't see the very top island in the list once you click anywhere on the list ???? This issue was also listed in the post "Bug in statistics production sheet of oil wells"
I can STILL confirm after update 14.1 the game still hangs at black screen with game cursor at load.
YES .... I've ALREADY verified game files and rebooted.
WHY ON EARTH CAN'T YOU GET AT LEAST ONE COMPETENT PROGRAMMER ON THIS ISSUE ?????
CPU: i9-10980XE
ALL 18 (36 threads) cores enabled - game hangs
Just 16 (32 threads) cores enabled - game works
@skyrimonice
Sorry, but your expectations for Blue Byte (Anno developers) are way too high. They can't even get the game to run on all 18 cores of an i9-10980XE. We have to limit cores using BIOS or threads to 32 in MSCONFIG to even RUN the game.
Also, I have 128GB RAM, RTX-3090 Ultra as well as the i9-10980XE and whenever you have a large island population and zoom in, depending on the camera angle, frames can drop to 20's. I also have lowered my settings to AA 2X and high or medium on some others - like shadows. I do run my RTX-3090 cool never going above 55 (or 60 at most) because I want it to last (and everything is water cooled.)
I had an RTX-2080Ti Ultra before and that ran about the same with Anno 1800.
I've seen YouTube videos of large cities with large populations (especially the one with a million) and it seems they all have low framerates.
I've noticed the game getting slower and even semi-pauses for about a second every couple of minutes once you get to larger populations. The developers never really "optimized" the game for higher populations with good graphics quality.
I firmly believe they would have to do a complete overhaul or even switch the graphics engine to fix these types of issues. So, on that note I wouldn't expect any solutions at ALL really. One thing I know you CAN DEPEND ON is the fact that they WILL come out with new PAID content - usually in the form of decorations. Usually the new main DLC content that comes out causes more issues and the bug list just gets longer. I also have noticed the new bug list reporting feature (Trello) only shows a fraction of the "known" bug list (I would say less than half.)
Sorry for the "long winded" feedback but I'm a retired 3rd level net/comp engineer and it really gets under my skin the way the developers treat (or don't address) issues with this game.
OK guys,
STILL just black screen with game cursor on startup ... worked fine before update 13.
So far ... at YOUR request I've ... (1) given you my MSINFO & DXDIAG files, (2) reinstalled the game, (2) moved game to same drive as client ...
Moving game to same drive (C:) as Ubisoft client did NOT fix problem. I have been running the game on a different drive since it first came out with no issues releated. I wish you guys would quit grasping at straws and look at update 13 which was what BROKE the game for me as well as others .... Like I said before ... the game worked last week and BROKE after the 13 update. With ALL the DLCs and little cosmetic update charges I've given you over $100 and now have NOTHING to show for it ...
@aw7777777
I'll try to paste images for the statistics "island scroll area" issue here ...
BEFORE CLICKING IN THE SCROLLING AREA
AFTER CLICKING ON AN ISLAND
AFTER CLICKING ON THE TINY AREA OF THE TOPMOST ISLAND (Old Town 1 which is barely visible at the top of the list now)
I have already posted here, but ...
On "top" of these issues I had to restart my game yesterday because it wouldn't let me change the value to pickup/drop off in ANY of my oil routes.
I tried changing any of the values then click save only to see the value NOT changing. Game restart fixed it. I also have the OLD problem of one of my trade ships "stuck" leaving the New World. I can see it on the global map just sitting at the exit point of the NW. That problem occurred some months ago (not sure because I just noticed it.)
Oh, and another apparent temporary fix for the popular "directx 12 error" is to run "windowed" mode. FPS isn't as good but I can play forever without this error; once I change to "full screen" I'll get the error within a day. It seems to also be related to letting the game sit with no activity for an extended period or switching away from the game. It's like the game wants to be "baby-sitted." lol
Like EVERYONE else playing the game, I wish they would quit adding more problems and concentrate on the existing ones.
I know they "say" they do testing but they should have a team dedicated to doing nothing but playing the game constantly so they can see all of these issues over time. It would save customers hundreds of hours posting to forums and sending files. I don't know of ANY other game that has as many issues that just go unresolved or get fixed ONLY to break the same functionality (case in point - ship stuck on world map.)
Sorry, there are multiple issues mentioned here but there are so many posts with so many issues I just wanted to let off some steam here.
I have had probably 10 or more cases over the years. Not to mention the hours spent posting, making videos and sending files. It's really exhausting.
@tevjan
Try either one of these workarounds until they fix the issue ...
1) In BIOS disable "hyperthreading"
OR
2) In Windows ... run "msconfig" > "Boot"-Tab > "Advanced options" > "Number of processors" set to 32.
(CREDIT: The 1st option is credited to "bdenes" and the 2nd option is credited to "minimalic", both over in the "Black screen on startup" post)
Your issue sounds the same.
Sorry if I'm wrong and you have a different issue...
@ubi-milky
Sorry, but as I explained in my open case and in my previous post here ... I will NOT be sending anymore files. Others are still having the issue as well after the latest update. If they want to send you files that's fine. Nothing got fixed the first time you got the files and my common sense tells me nothing I send you will help you now.
I REALLY don't have ANY confidence in the "team" being able to fix this issue at this point but will just keep hoping.
I'm beyond angry at this point and just tired of dealing with this issue.
Good luck as they (the "team") evidently need a lot of it!
The ONLY reason I keep posting about this issue is for the benefit of other customers so they know they are not alone in these types of issues that just keep piling up and rarely get fixed in a timely fashion. I don't expect anything from Ubisoft/Blue Byte but professionalism from the "team" and all of the developers. This particular problem should NEVER have occurred given the fact that "hyperthreading" has been around for 20 years. Being a past "machine language/assembler" programmer on PCs and mainframes I know this is not "rocket science."
Just so ALL the other customers can see what's going on with THIS issue I'm posting my response to Ubisoft asking me for my msconfig and dxdiag files AGAIN. This is in addition to my previous posted comment.
(My response today May 3, 2022 ... after trying the game with update 14.1 installed ... and YES, game files VERIFIED yet again !!!)
...
Nope! Not sending any more files. I have already done that and my system has NOT changed. Other customers are STILL having the same problem after the update 14.1 ... so I'm NOT alone. I'm a retired 3rd level network/computer engineer and you guys are insulting my intelligence. I have ALL the latest Windows updates (including DX12) at version 21H2. I play MANY games (many Ubisoft) and Anno 1800 is by far the most frustrating. You may fix issues but you keep causing more - just peruse your player support discussions! MANY people are really getting irritated at the Ubisoft/Blue Byte responses to game problems/issues.
YOU HAVE A MULTITHREADING ISSUE ???? How long has multithreading been around ??? Oh yeah ... since 2002 ... that's 2 decades ago. Your "team" has been working on THIS particular issue how long now ??? Oh yeah ... almost 5 MONTHS. And you keep asking customers for "files" and to VERIFY GAME FILES. This is really POOR taste.
You will have to "motivate" the Blue Byte developers/programmers to "fix" the issue.
I WILL NOT WASTE ANOTHER MINUTE OF MY LIFE HELPING YOU OR BLUE BYTE.
In fact I'm thinking of making a youtube video of this single issue since it has gone on for almost 5 months and the Blue Byte "team" doesn't seem to have a clue as how to fix it.
Do I sound angry ... uh ... YEAH !!! I've spent around $175 on this game ... put yourself in OUR shoes ... how would YOU feel ???
I can confirm after 14.2 it seems to work with ALL cores (18) (19-10980XE) enabled at this time.
Thanks, finally !!!

@eiskiykolhoznik
Did you try disabling 2 cores in BIOS or limiting to 32 threads in MSCONFIG-Boot-Advanced options ???
It's working for me on savegames and new game.
FYI
@ubi-karl
Yes, that would work fine!
@matula81
Thanks for coming forward. Maybe, if a couple more post here with the same issue on their 10980XE, the "team" will admit it's their code and NOT our PCs.
I'm totally "down" with houses on hills, commuter piers and/or a large commuter ship for the NW.
Sorry, AORUS2017, but I have to side with the OP and others here. If it's available (I use it) in CT it might as well be in the Arctic. People that feel it's a cheat don't have to use it. I've been playing A1800 since it came out and there are MANY laborious mechanics to it. The game has MANY settings, features and items to fit ANY playing style. One more tiny change, for those like us that believe certain parts are tedious and would rather concentrate on other things, is not hurting anyone.
JMHO
Thanks, SpawnDieRepeat, for bringing this up. I was thinking of posting but get tired of it.
@ubi-viral
I would have to start a new game which won't happen for a while.
Thanks for the info anyway. Good to know. So certain items may be missing if you don't have certain NPCs enabled.
It would be REALLY nice if the items could be seen anyway and just have the qualification for specific NPCs in their descriptions. That way we would know ahead of time and not have to post on here for every occurrence - because there is nothing to explain this. Just a suggestion.
The more "self explanatory" items and hints you include in the game the less we would need to waste your time and ours with these posts.
