@jamesonl_
Yeah, bring the achievement popups back!
The uplay overlay was great, it was snappy and everything and most of all, it had achievement popups. The Ubisoft connect overlay on the other hand.. it's slow, it looks kind of bad (apparently big ugly tiles is trendy among Ux developers these days), it doesn't have achievement popups or even a way to view achievements.
Ubisoft Connect feels like a downgrade from Uplay to be honest.
@ubi-theberry Translation: Hi, the team says "We have decided that most likely nah. We know what you guys want but we... don't... care!"
Connect is such a downgrade from the uplay overlay..
I mean, xbox/ps have their own achievement systems, sure.. and I suppose the connect team is too clueless or lazy to make it work on PC so they just decide that they don't care about PC players in regards to this. I mean, Connect in general feels very.. consol like. Yeah yeah, I get it.. unified across all platforms and all. Which is an upgrade for console players I suppose? But a downgrade for PC players. Is it that they didn't want console players to get double achievement popups? One from connect and one from their platform? Well GOOD news.. just make them only pop up on PC. ez pz. I mean.. since there is an OPTION for turning them on or off.. people who don' like it can you know.. TURN IT OFF.
AT THE VERY LEAST, just let us check the achievements in the overlay, or is that also too hard for them?
Will we keep having to bug you about it for yet another year (because we will), you pingponging it between them and us and will the team denying us this very basic feature (which there is even A SETTING FOR for zeus sake) for yet another year?
The connect client is good (probably because it's actually made for PC). The overlay is trash (100% sure it's because it's supposed to be unified between platforms and thus PC suffers for it). Awful navigation, terrible tile based look etc.
@mrbikerfr I fully agree.
It's just stupid. Whoever thought it was a good idea should seriously rethink that. The game goes for the slowdown when completing an objective, who in the world would think that was a good idea? It serves ZERO purpose and is just a massive annoyance. And these god awful huge popups when you loot rare materials in some slow annoying notification queue. Notification queues like that needs to burn... it's like it's some trend among game developers that honestly I can't see any players liking.
I know they are cool and all, but seeing the same ones 100 times gets really really old. Especially the one where you strangle the fat guys. Then of course there is the fact that they steal away camera control from you EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Please add an option to have speedier finishers.
So, it's completely intended after all... It just shows that Ubisoft doesn't care, are too lazy or too incompetent to make it work.
Other platforms have their own systems for this, so I can see it not being needed on those. The connect system is made to be the same on all platforms, I get that. But intending for there to be no such thing on PC just puts up a big fat "We don't give a rats bum about you guys". Heck, the overlay doesn't even have achievements, which is doubly stupid.
It's intended? Could the inane connect team at least give us a sensible reason why we are to be pooped on in this regard? I was already not in a good mood today and was thinking I'd check if there was any progress or sensible response to this and I read that it's intended? That's just dumb. I was bored and thinking I'd give AC3 remastered a runthrough after not having played the original for years. It just sparked my annoyance.
"hurr durr, remove the option as we don't care but we can hide the option"
At least Steam has the sense to have such a system, and even EGS has three braincells enough to put together such a system. But nooo.. Ubisoft doesn't want us PC players to have it. It is a big fat middle finger to the PC crowd, that is what it is. An insult.
I withdraw my statement that the connect team is too incompetent to make it work on pc. They most likely could, if they cared one tiny bit.
I'm in no way faulting you CMS for this, you are just the messengers. But up the line, with the connect devs, there is sure some deeply flawed thinking.
12 years counted on the ubisoft website and many more in the past with many wonderful games from Ubisoft, and this is the thanks me and other PC gamers get. I'm a little mad right now, not hard to tell, this issue has been an ongoing thorn in my side for two years now (ever since connect launched, replacing the good and functional uplay overlay with some bloated mess) and it keeps getting twisted. Uplay was bad once upon a time, then it was greatly improved.. only to end up being canned and replaced by a less functional, laggy blob.
@hiattfamily Agreed, I would very much like to see if I am about to enter a restricted area or not but noo.. stupid damn popup every single time..
At the very least don't have it turn off the minimap.
@surferslayapkr Yeah, it's pretty sad that this has been an issue a lot of people have had since the start and it has been pretty much ignored. Uplay, come back, all is forgiven.
I'm betting the connect team has been aware of this for quite some time now and yet we've seen nothing done about it. Not that Milky (who is just the messenger) can do anything about it. It's just the connect team that needs to get their stuff together.
I mean at this point I am certain that the connect team don't care worth a damn.. if the cms indeed forwarded our concerns to the team and not just to the trashpile (where the connect overlay belongs in this state tbh)
"This feature is under evaluation" still.. for MONTHS (if not longer).. with zero... ZERO information..
@tyl0413 In truth, I bet that they were not so much removed.. more like they weren't competent enough to make them carry over to connect so they they took the lazy route.
@DragonAlex1 Which is real sad. I'd say something along the lines of "Not buying another UBI game ever again..." but that'd be a lie. I still find connect (the overlay that is) to be a bloated slow mess (praise be the uplay overlay) more focused on fluff than functionality but I will still end up getting AC: Mirage most likely.
The way I'm seeing it is that the connect team possibly gets some feedback from the community (via the CMs), then instantly tosses it in the trash going "whatever".
I honestly don't feel like that connect has gotten any major improvements since it first released. The overlay remains a downgrade over the uplay one, with features REMOVED. At least, uplay was in a great spot, featurewise and in regards to how it looked. Then connect was dumped on us, favoring eyecandy over functionality and performance.

@Ghost_LeaderBG Yeah, at the very least we should be able to see them in the overlay.
It's because of things like this I cancelled my ubisoft+ sub.
I think the main reason why we don't have achievement notifications or achievements in the overlay is because they are too lazy to separate connect on consoles from connect on PC. I can understand console players wouldn't want to have double achievement shenanigans since other platforms have their own achievement systems, but it would just be a matter of.. having those things disbled on consoles while displaying them on PC. That is.. if the connect team cared enough to look past their shiny bling bling to give us a basic feature that basically every other storefront have these days. A feature we USED to have, in uplay. Uplay was lightweight and very functional.. and most of all it had achievements and achievement popups. Instead we get these blinged out connect things that.. to be honest.. didn't really add all that much (quite the opposite, it TOOK AWAY things from us PC players).
I'm still waiting for a HONEST reason why they have opted to not give us (back) a basic feature that people expect on pretty much every platform.
Last update to connect was back in March, one can only hope they change their minds and actually make some substantial changes (adding achievement notifications etc after all, and improve performance of the overlay)
So, it's completely intended after all... It just shows that Ubisoft doesn't care, are too lazy or too incompetent to make it work.

@rizz768 Most likely, yeah. But would they really need to maintain two versions? It would be the same, only with achievement notifications from connect being turned off on consoles.
@davidlukes Perhaps that is for the best (if you mean the update on ubisoft connect). Steam people got the patch and it's kind of a mess.
I was hoping to be able to play when I got home from work but no update here either.
@tyl0413 In truth, I bet that they were not so much removed.. more like they weren't competent enough to make them carry over to connect so they they took the lazy route.

@rulies01 It unlocked by accident and was since removed. You'll have to wait before it is officially released. Not a bug.
Could be that we get more missions in december and that this first mission was just a taste of what we'll get.
