Same boat. Although I'm nearly certain the issue (for me) is this one game's compatibility with the most recent Insider Preview builds, only AC:V has this issue and I'm not reinstalling my carefully configured system over an incompatibility in one game that will need to be fixed before those builds hit stable anyway.
i didn't want to reinstall windows, so i created partition with 30 GB, installed windows 10 side by side and installed only ubi connect.
I might just do this, I really would like to play the game I paid for, but I can't reinstall my entire system over it (for a variety of reasons. I was hoping to see a fix rolled out before it came to that..
I can't even start the game.
Is your game installed on an external or Microsoft Storage Spaces disk?
Are you running Windows Insider Preview? (Version 20257 or newer)
Those are the top two causes that I've seen for the game crashing at startup. Specifically it crashes shortly after displaying the greenish logo splash screen window.
The first can be solved by installing/moving to your OS disk and/or off of Storage Spaces.
The second is also my issue and as of yet unresolved.
You could attempt to roll back to a previous insider build via Windows Settings > Recovery > Go back to a previous version of Windows 10. This is dependent on a few factors, most importantly whether system restore points were created during the update and whether they still exist. I was unable to roll back on my system but those who have been able to reported that it solved their crashes.
So just to update, I took the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20262 update today with no change in the crashing at launch behavior. So it doesn't appear to be a one-off bug with that particular build (20257) It's likely to be an issue going forward until the cause is debugged by the game devs.
ACValhalla and ACOdyssey are still the only games/apps affected by this bug on my system. I don't have Horizon Zero Dawn to test so I can't say whether that is the same or a related bug or something else entirely.
Still holding out for an update or more information on the cause or solution of this bug! I really hope I won't have to wait for 20257 to hit stable for it to be taken seriously. I can't afford to downgrade and clean install my system to troubleshoot one or two games.
Please Ubisoft take a look at this bug, I don't think it will cost you much dev time to fix and I know I'm not the only one left out of Valhalla because of it!
Assassin's Creed Valhalla crashes shortly after displaying the blue-green logo splash screen. I have tried every fix and the game actually worked for me for a few hours on release so I know my system runs it just fine. I've narrowed it down to the Windows Insider's Preview update 20257.1.fe (as others have confirmed) My system took the update the night it stopped launching this game.
Unfortunately I am unable to roll back to the previous Windows build and I am not willing to reinstall my entire system to fix a (probably easily remedied) bug in one game. Actually, my copy of Assassin's Creed Odyssey is behaving the same way.
Does anyone know exactly what about the latest Windows build is causing this crash? I'd like to know how likely we are to see a timely fix for this, either from Ubisoft or via another Windows release. Should I pause my Windows updates for the time being while Ubisoft fixes the game or should I continue taking them in the hope that a newer Windows build will solve the bug?
@uplay-remij Same here. I was able to play for about 3 hours and the Windows 10 Insider Preview 20257.1 (fe_release) update installed overnight. I was previously on Windows 10 Insider Preview 20251.1 (fe_release).
Haven't been able to get past the splash screen window since then. I've tried all the fixes I could find online. I didn't realize until now but the Windows update aligns exactly with the start of my problem as well.
No other games from any brand have any issues with this update that I could find except Assasin's Creed Odyssey which does the exact same thing as Valhalla.
I own Odyssey but I was playing Valhalla via Uplay+.
Really disappointing because if I had to wait for a fix to resume playing Valhalla, Odyssey would be my backup game in the meantime! Hopefully this is something easy to fix and an update will be rolled out asap because I feel really left out (and Uplay+ is costing me!)
