Same issue for me. I can launch the game from my pc in the same cases that you described but if I try to launch the game by using a controller the game will crash.

Secondly, launching the game from the PC using a mouse and then booting up the steam link and connecting to the game does not work as the game will fail to recognize any input from the controller at that point. This was all introduced in v1.2.
