just for information, i cannot play division 2 and i am in uk have a great fast reliable internet connection. yet when i begin the game today i had multiple failures.
first time the game didnt freeze but after the circle reached 100% (this was post character choice) it just... stayed there. much longer than usual. i alt tabbed to go look at server status after maybe a couple of minutes, and then had to tab back because it finally loaded me into the base of operations.
i tried to leave said base and none of the gates would open like they are supposed to. after a few seconds stood behind the gate i was delta 3 dumped to menu to start or logout, with a text to speech voice telling me the options for no good reason. thats really irritating. i have no access issues and that setting is and always was off.
next try i got same thing, couldnt leave BoO and then delta 3.
3rd try i didnt even bother waiting for the delta 3 i just tried to quit game. nothing happened, and i had to close the game manually from desktop.
i put this down to the fact season 9 began, tu15 dropped, and people want to play the expertise system and/or season, and then someone rather naively chose to make it a free to play weekend.
the servers cant handle the load, and they were always going to be under stress with the title update and expertise system to try out, so why did nobody think about that before deciding on a free to play weekend, and make more server capacity, even temporarily, to cope with an influx of first time/trial freeplayers? that it would be needed must surely have been obvious?
well tu15 dropped and ubi decided to make things worse by making a f2p weekend for division 2.
so far today i have had:
game not freezing but getting stuck at 100% loading. alt tab fixed that until
game dumped me to menu with delta 3 error and for no good reason turned on menu speech to text in order to irritate me more.
then i got into base of operations and bought a gun, put it in stash for my collection of AR and tried to leave base. none of the gates would open.
dumped to menu delta 3 error.
final try i tried to leave base, gates wont open, tried to quit game, had to kill it with task manager.
its not my connection to servers ubisoft. its your servers would have been near maxed out with your new update because ppl wanted to try expertise and countdown. now the servers cant cope at all with a free to play weekend on top.
i say this here not to hijack thread, but so other people know its not worth making any reports on the freezing issue until 16 may.
hi, by accident i started my game crashing but i have no idea if my problem is part of this issue.
i decided to mess around with graphics settings and the reasons why isn't important. for whatever reason, i decided i didn't need parallax mapping set on. i changed it and restarted the game.
within an hour the game crashed hard; blackscreen, and alt tab didn't want to work. it took me a few minutes to make it tab out so i could kill the game in task man.
over the next day or two, the game would never run more than an hour, often far less, without the same kind of crash - either a total blackscreen, which reduced to a no window game exe running in background when alt tab, or it would reduce to a small 1280x720 black window, and need killing in task manager either crash.
yet the only change i made was with parallax mapping. i changed it back to on, and all my problems vanished from the restart onward. game hasn't crashed since and i have been playing for hours at a time.
now this thread makes me think there are multiple bugs causing similar looking crashes. maybe this is just one of them. i put my experience here in hopes devs can figure what is happening with at least one bug, and maybe help others avoid some of the crashes, make them less common or something.
im running the game on a TUF FX505GD gaming laptop.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz
geforce GTX 1050 4gb vram
16gb ram 2667 MHz dual channel.
i also have no sound other than voices only the ship captain voice works. all the sounds of the sea, and other sound effects, the music is all silent.
i wonder if it is trying to use the nvidia sound because i have no audio on my monitor, and use the realtek sound via a 3.5mm jack to speakers. i notice my driver updates for the gpu always include nvidia sound thing. unfortunately, that 'sound card' isnt connected to anything.
but thats just a wild guess. the only thing i am sure of, is barnabas is the only one made any sound since the cross wired update
@xmdead or one player with choice of bots. just so i can do that mission marker and get benitez quiet permanently. for all i care about the mode i can just join a match and stand around and go make tea until im dead and its over, however it ends. at least i wont get nagged to go play a mode with no players.
@suspiciouspixel i never do because old and cynical. if i held my breath every time i made a post like that, i would be purplefaced dead by now lol
the new forum software makes it hard to impossible to find what you want, unlike the old. the old forums you could easily find a maintenance note. it appears even moderators cannot find their own since i waited for hours longer than needed today to play division 1: reason? the maintenance notice wasnt sticky, so not where i could see it, and when someone pointed out in another thread about an error it was maintenance day, only then could i find the locked thread about it.
and the thread wasnt ever updated to say maintenance over. its not even on the first page now, which will have triggered unnecessary reports of servers being down, and errors.
you should get this fixed so that maintenance for division 1 has a separate thread, and probably make the top sticky a link to division 1 server status - right now we only get to see division 2 server status and i gave up on that game months ago with its locked into ny dlc and awful DZ system (guess they wanted an esport pvp zone so they tried to drop pve and succeeded... but i play division 1 for the dz where pve is viable rather than pvp is unavoidable.)
unless division 2 changes dramatically to work more like division 1 did, i doubt i will ever need to reinstall it, so the division 2 server status is meaningless to me when i try to find division 1 server status.
generally these forums look nice. they dont seem to have any logic, and its hard to find anything and too easy to start to reply only to get a warning its an old thread - in which case why warn about necro? why not do what other forums do and not show these threads on the suggested list underneath because they are old? the list under the current thread you read contains lots of old threads. but it looks like it contains similar and current threads which means you will get a lot of thread necromancy going on. that feels like the law of unforseen consequences biting.
but if you wanted nice looking forums, they're nice looking.
did i mention how nice they look? disorganised but nice.
@ubi-lucipus its probably unrelated to this crash but i had a very hard to track down bug a few months ago on Fifa 21. for some reason it was freezing, then the game went into a window and began stuttering badly. these were my symptoms.
when i investigated i found out that Desktop Windows Manager had crashed, and the game had gone windowed when it restarted and was running on the cpu integrated intel uhd graphics, not the gtx 1050
further investigation i found that it was because i had just bought a new controller, an xbox one s controller. the crash was caused because the controller comes out of the box with an old version of firmware. i had to download the xbox accessories app from microsoft store and update the controller firmware using it, and that fixed the crashing entirely. i have no idea why a game controller should need access to the desktop windows manager to make it crash but it was incredibly hard to track down the correct cause of the problem, which i could reproduce before the controller update every single time.
i would suggest adding this troubleshooting step to your list 'Ensure xbox controllers do not need update on pc, by checking with xbox accessories app' or something similar. it wont help with this problem probably, but could be useful in future for other issues.
@angrypandanr1 destiny 2 moved to this. its called a 'live game' but its now dead for solo players like me, since there are no longer grand stories being told, like in destiny or in division 1 campaign. they went with seasons, but every season you get a tiny single player thing then its straight into the groovy 6 player content, with matchmaking.
except if you get matchmade with a cheater, bungie ban everyone in the group who didnt understand someone was cheating and didnt exit the group or report. i cant tell cheaters from good players these days, since most of the cheaters arent as obvious as in the division 1 dark zone. and im too old now to be good enough to run with younger players. the reflexes just arent there.
but thats the issue you will get with moving division 3 to a live game. yes, no more new game every few years. but no, no big storylines, no campaigns to play. just short quest into a cutscene using in game assets not rendered, and then into the mp content which is all there is.
oh and you will be able to pay for character customisation items of course. not lootboxes if those are banned where you are, you can just buy an in game currency and purchase that glowy thing all your friends have that looks cool.
destiny 2 isnt a fortnite clone, either. its still supposedly got a storyline, but you cant replay the story of course. because its a live game, nobody will ever experience the whole red war campaign. nobody will relive killing a worm god on mars (short campaign anyway) and most people blinked and missed the curse of osiris campaign, which actually grew on me over time. if you go to a live game model, my guess will be for the division: no campaigns ever again. you get seasons instead where you get a short cutscene and if you bought the season pass, earn rewards as you level up while doing the latest variant of a strike or raid content (mp 6 man challenge or something, like doing the skyscraper thing multiple times over the season until the bad guy somehow dies because bored watching, probably.)
and then in a few months... next season. new cutscene. new boss. new variant of 6 player content to grind until somehow this makes the boss vulnerable and you kill them for another cutscene.
and once a year, a dlc where a new boss, new maps and bosses (and 'vaulting of some older maps' meaning removing until cycled back in future) and new enemy types, maybe a new specialised weapon are introduced. plus balancing changes. and its treated like a season for actual gameplay, just you get a longer intro, two single player missions before meeting the unlikely ally, then back to the mp content grind until the new boss somehow becomes vulnerable...
i play division 1. i hereby give ubisoft permission to look at my in game ignore list of chinese spam bots offering some service or other, which i never bothered trying to transate. 99% of my ignore list is from spam bot chat in penn district. whenever i go to base of operations, i end up opening chat and ignoring one. i used to report them like i have to report hacking, but its clear nobody looks at reports from division 1 game at all, let alone investigates and takes action. i believe i would be breaking the law locally not to try reporting the hacking which is why i do it, but the spam i have no clue what it is - offering to use your account to farm a classified set seems a good guess, when they actually just want to hijack the account, spend money of the player and use it to spam the chat for other gullible players. but all i do is ignore now. guccixxxx one name comes up, where x = various numbers. but i guess division 1 is close to being abandoned so maybe nothing will happen.
@yelxiad game devs should plan for end of life of the games they make when the servers are to be switched off. they then have the choice of whether to push that 'offline loot miniserver' patch to players in a final update or just kill the servers and watch the game die.
div 1 could still be fun offline, if they had offline loot tables on the pc of the player. consoles which push hardware by sharing it for both ram and vram etc of course would just get their games killed, but the pc community can choose whether to add a gb to their installation size so they can play div 1 offline.
if i had been designing the game, i would always have 'end of life patch day' in mind. and my read as div 1 reaches that time would be 'players still prefer it to division 2, not all, but some, and so its worth pushing the offline only update for darkzone and underground dlc.'
and that final patch would make it so dark zone is still available offline due to no need to matchmake with other players. i can live without rogues and if they really want occasional rogue attacks, they can make AI rogues - they have the hunter AI from underground for a start, and there are rogue agents in the DZ and in campaign and they can use that AI too.
underground would become the same as DZ - offline playable.
loot tables would need to be shifted from server side to player side installation. i have no idea how but it only needs to serve one game, and so maybe a gb of space needed just for that? it would likely be a server simulation mode, it hooks into codes and replaces the online look for the server hooks with a code pointer to the simulated server. it might mean low end pcs once div 1 is officially ended, cant play it even with the patch. but this patch in total might mean they can continue to sell the game, discounted, forever.
i would prefer they went further than that even, and the final patch as compensation for online mp loss would add a new game + mode where you can just take your agent, at world tier 5 or whatever, and replay the whole campaign from the start, including brooklyn. naturally that will become a speed run paradise. i dont know if they can alter the enemy table there to allow higher level enemies, but if they do the offline patch, then loot and npc spawn tables could be adapted to allow for high level players replaying brooklyn. its easily possible technically.
but they dont plan for these things. i think all devs should plan this, and where possible like with division 1 (which is an mp online hybrid - the campaign is only coop if you make a group) there should be an end of life patch but there wotn be in this case. they clearly dont think of these things at this time. mainly they dont because they dont know how big a game might be on release. and if it is big success on release day, they worry because... it might be division 2 sold well because div 1 was such a good game. so thats a second reason not to spend valuable time (money) planning for end of life patches to keep games playable once the servers die. other than crude hacks that just remove the online code and may leave games unplayable even offline.
i hope for a final patch because i love exploring the DZ in div 1 and extracting (except when rogues try to make me pvp which i dont bother even trying and i tell them i wont play). i love div1 in a way i can never find for division 2 with all the changes they made and the bad setting. but i expect they will just kill it because reason 3: if ppl are playing old games and with money issues now due to pandemic and supply shortages for food, who will buy new game division (add number/heartland) if they can just play div 1 offline?
@nighteagle397 because not realistic? i see plenty of blood from corpses, especially dark zones in div 1. but thats not realistic because its winter, and the blood will freeze before much leaks out as the body does. when you shoot enemies and are close in there is red mist from bullet impacts. but also, div 1 a lot of the dead died of the dollar flu, rather than being shot. so many more of the dead were not bleeding.
@latenitedelight i disagree about division 2 because i didnt like the setting, the only improvement it had was the inventory, but the rest of the ui changes, changes to controls (swapping dismantle from left click to right click gamepad stick for no good reason?) the poor matchmaking (calls for aid, agent dead and respawned by the time you got there, so gave up quickly), and the warlords dlc is fine... if you were able to go back to washington at any time, and dont have to kill keener to do that or to access that skyscraper thing. i paid for content i cant do because i cant kill keener.
oh and the specialisations, which are utterly pointless and logically inconsistent (a ghost world yet they manage to do expensive r&d on a new gadget? everyone should be farming and herding just to survive). the great thing about div 1 was customisable loadouts and skills. or, NO set classes. you need someone to be a healer in a group, no problem they switch a couple of skills. there was no need for specialisations, which just lock something in stone because you cant upgrade all of them or switch on the fly as needed.
i deleted an agent in div 2 because stuck in new york unable to kill keener, and no aid came when i called. then i felt so disillusioned with the empty world (miraculously filled with high tech black tusk once the campaign ended, and where they messed up the world tier system by FORCING it to go up if you replay the final 3 boss missions, and being unable to lower it again if your agent turned out couldnt handle the new world tier... nothing was wrong with the div 1 system of world tiers, pick one you enjoyed and you could replay all the missions, not have 3 off limits in case your agent became unusable at next world tier...)
if there is new content coming for division 2, i wont be buying it. if they want to fix division 2 to let you pick world tiers, not force you into steadily more difficult ones and not let you drop back down if its not fun, to let you return from new york if you fail to kill keener, or dont like it, rather than nuke an agent and give up on a dlc you paid for entirely, and drop specialisations entirely, get the skills back closer to div 1 (where they worked and didnt feel nerfed to uselessness, turning division 2 into just another shooter with some cool looking effects) then maybe i will reinstall it. but it will take a long time if they did all that before i trusted them enough to buy another dlc or the next division game.
personally the setting was the mistake which i feel sent the original team on a whole spiral of wrong choices in design. skyscraper thing may be good - i can never play it because of the keener fight (and i could criticise that all day long - whats the point being a division agent and all the gadgets if you are prevented using them in that fight? why bother having them in game at all if keener just turns every skill you been using against you and all you have is your guns. might as well just call it Call of Divisionite and make a fortnite clone...).
division 3 maybe they can write off the second game as a simulation running while the govt are trying to cope with the real dollar flu still - ie its a computer simulation planning for a worst case scenario. then they can show another agent story in chicago or in houston, or miami, or even some agent stuck in europe (maybe in london) ordered to help an allied government (though i doubt it would work since getting military grade guns in numbers is not possible in reality in europe so there wont be the same chaos you see in manhattan).
but they wont return to division 1, probably the game engine for that game is maxed out with what it has. i notice that you actually load into a new location entirely just to access the underground dlc, just like for the dark zone (another thing messed up in div 2; changing the gear rules, and splitting the dz from a big area into teeny weeny areas, it effectively dropped the pve part and became a pvp ganker only zone, and so few players play dz in div 2 when i was playing.)
i seriously doubt they would continue div 1 support once div 3 comes. i think the game is too good to just kill the servers and let it die, but while i would wish for a final patch to remove the need for servers, so the dz just became an area for pve with higher ranked and more npc enemies, i dont see them doing it. they should do. div 1 deserves it. but if they do any final patch it will likely stop you entering the dz at all, remove matchmaking from mission options, and mean that once the campaign is done, you have to delete an agent to replay or just farm the light zone named enemies as your only hope to gear up.
originally brooklyn was larger in the announcement, and had its own darkzone. i still think that could have been a great dlc - in your and faye's absence, and once manhattan was pacified, you had to go back and regain control of the brooklyn area, with a new darkzone with higher chance - or better a chance to pick - what classified sets drop from enemies.
anyways tldr is, they wont go back to division 1. when they get tired of trying to fix division 2 for non pro gamers to enjoy (and failing) then div 3 will be made and div 1 servers killed. they wont stop selling the game of course. then you complain the game has no servers and they offer you a refund to their new wallet not back to your bank account, so you have to buy another game instead.
@xmdead i am unable to connect to division 1 servers. same exact error. i am guessing the game is down, but no way to tell ubisoft. i hope they extend the public event as a result of this outage. i am connecting direct from ubisoft connect and not using steam at all. but there is no server status for division 1 because they want everyone to move to division 2 and play that.
of course i cant find anywhere to check division 1 status not division 2 which i dont like and dont play. nor even find any link now to maintenance posts, so i have no clue whats with that. division 1 only got monthly maintenance; i doubt they are doing maintenance by choice in the middle of a global event. otherwise they need to extend the event by a day.
i dont like division 2. setting was their first mistake; empty city in an empty world, post apocalypse. there wont be any power or organised govt so no ISAC so no agents. gadgets wouldnt work. there wouldnt be the gang factions, because everyone would be growing food in susbsitence farming. travel would be impossible. the black tusk wouldnt exist. then after you do the final mission, the map is filled with action. that in itself is welcome but it is so jarring that this empty world can suddenly feel so full of enemies. you cant have it both ways.
so the whole premise of the sequel doesnt make sense and thats the first problem i had with it.
second is warlords dlc. making a dlc impossible to return from and locking the extra levels behind killing the bad guy at the end locking away the stuff you paid for doesnt make sense. i have ZERO desire to play the dlc i paid for, and certainly wont buy any others after that fiasco of being unable to kill keener. i ended up deleting that trapped agent and then i didnt play so long i uninstalled the game. remove the inability to go back to washington and level up if you cant complete warlords.
3rd with division 2, the uber classes. they listened to the Call of Duty clowns who whined about there being no specialisations for the pvp. because CoD players dotn realise CoD style games are not the only way games can be. these are the same people in both division games who when i tell in dark zone 'not interested in pvp' say 'well dont enter the pvp zone' because they assume thats what it is and dont bother reading up on the games, so dont understand anything like pvevp areas. if it isnt fortnite/CoD then they dont get it.
the beauty of division was the ability to flip 'classes' and complete customisation at any time on skills. the uber classes (if they worked, and they dont) fix that in stone. you can only upgrade one of them fully. you lock your agent into one uber class forever, only allowed 4 agents and there are about 8 ubers. i know they are 'revamping' them but the best plan would be make the div 2 basic system more like div 1 and scrap the specialisations altogether. revamp is code for 'we messed it up'.
oh and the system for linking up with other agents is bad in division 2. matchmaking never worked. by the time i responded to a call for aid, there was no agent there to aid. i gave up trying in div 2 early on. division 1 did it better, but last time i tried matchmaking in division 1, started the mission in div 1 because waiting to find other agents just didnt happen. so i wound up soloing all the missions yet again because of low player numbers in division 1.
but since division 2 is their baby now, division 1 can have servers go down and all we can get is server status for division 2, which is apparently fine. although i notice that i keep losing connection to these forums, which worries me. maybe the whole of ubisoft is currently being attacked, or they have a massive hardware problem.
id like to play just once to shot up the captain.
every single time i move the pointer on the map close to the BoO its 'hey agent, i need you to check in with the new guy crapitch...' and whenever i first enter the place at the back to do optimising or recalibration my FIRST ACTION is immediately to open the map and move the cursor to one of the incursions to shut benitez the hell up about Last Stand which you can never start a game of.
not the same npc; i had found a warrior (drengr?) in a cave, but could not talk to him at all despite the speech bubble and '...' so i went and collected things in the cave. came back and on my way out could talk to him. it seems very random that objects and npcs you sometimes can, sometimes cant interact with.
(i wish i had not talked to him, no spoilers here, lets just say i wound up having to find the cave and re-collect the things i collected again...)
