It's great to see that development is closely bound to feedback from players.
My biggest question is does the game feel more like The Settlers game we all love with slow-paced gameplay focused on economy and production chains and discovering what's out there or is it still another random RTS game?
I wonder why The SettlersTeam won't comment on this change of vision. If the old design was so broken why wouldn't they just be open about it and explain? I think we can easily say it wasn't broken and this is all about money.
My guess at this point is:
Original creator Volker Wertich presented his vision and the development started. Later in the development, someone from the marketing at Ubisoft probably forced on the team to implement some microtransactions and another pay-to-win mobile !"£$ mechanics. Volker said 'after my dead body' so they simply removed him as a director staying quiet about it (even tho he was the face of the reboot from the very first announcement).
The development stalled for quite some time and they came back with a complete redesign we can see now.
I'm quite sure there will be an in-game shop to buy stuff for the game you already paid for.
They are trying to appeal to the new generation of gamers here that grew up on Fortnite and LoL. No one cares about us old trees that are looking for a relaxing experience known in the early games.
Maybe there will be The Settlers II (30th Anniversary) coming for us at some point in 2026
I'm giving up my hopes for this game.
Just saw old gameplay from 2019 (
