I think that for a game that costs from 60 to almost 200 euros, depends on the edition, and for me it was the ultimate edition, the customer should be able to chose which gender is canon.
What is outrageous, is that Ubisoft has promoted the game where both genders are canons, yet there is a prequel with a female Eivor, and animus chooses for you a female Eivor.
Thank you for mocking, Ubisoft.
Also while playing as Male, the game often treats you as a female by using feminine pronouns.
The problem here is that you lied and tricked customers, Ubisoft.
And also this is a [censored] viking game.
A viking, historically and 99.9% of the time, is a male. A brute male.
Please stop indulging feminists and pro-women movements, while creating games, bcs this way you are making politics, instead of entertainment.
I am not here to play a leftist game, I am here to play a game free of politics, free of any kind of activism, free of any kind of movements, where only the player's choices are valid and canon.
Ubisoft should come out and publicly and directly confirm that both genders are canon.
I want to experience this story as a male Eivor, without having the game recognize Eivor as a female here and there.
You will have to fix this.
Don't you dare to force your customers to play the game as you see fit!
You lied to the customers, that they are free to chose the gender, yet you made animus chose a female Eivor for the 90% of the game.
I say, [censored] that.
Why not make the game watch and observe how you play and the gameplay style and make the animus change the gender several times mid-game?
This will be sick!
And this way the game will be really gender-neutral and both genders will be canon.
And don't even try me on gender hate.
Why on earth would you reduce Mjölnir's power???
It is an end-game weapon, which you get after a lot of grinding... Now its weaker than some regular weapons... The Hammer of Thor is a weapon of a god. It is supposed to have no equal. By doing that you are taking away the very reward most players were after when grinding and playing for this weapon.
Literally nobody complained about its power and it wasn't overpowered before, how and why would you decide to lower its power.
Oh, wait.
Don't tell me it was more powerful than the weapons in the animus store...
Pathetic...

If everytime I'd got a penny for trying to prove to people in this thread, you excluded, that I agree with the fact that overall women integration in scandinavian society was present and is welcomed by me - I'd be a billioner.
For some reason people here are getting triggered for the wrong reasons.
Since the bloody beginning of the post I was complaining about the misleading marketing and the lack of fully equal gender choice, instead I have to fend off people who think I hate women...
People are here to buy oranges from carrot vendor...
@sam_boo26
Proven by History? The Tv channel?
Don't tell me Vikings TV series serve as a proof for this XD
I also believe there were shield maidens, this makes scandinavian history even more cool.
Yet if you ask a random person, about his/her first association when they hear the word "viking" - most say " tall, savage man, with blonde hair and blue eyes" or something close to that.
There are very few historical documents, which are Sagas btw, that describe shield maidens.
Unfortunately, Sagas tend to exaggerate, so Ragnar, for example, might not have existed at all.
But, its not about that.
The game forces the opinion of other people onto your gameplay, despite what was promised, whether you like it or not.
@nozgame are you that blunt?
I am not mad at the fact that there is female Eivor...
I am mad that Ubisoft marketing campaign promised one and delivered another.
Yes, judging by their work devs are influenced by leftist activism and most importantly media.
Which is the reason for them push a female character. I am fine with that.
I am not fine with misleading marketing or with a bad work from the devs.
If you don't know how the companies work - the executives are setting goals and make tasks to achieve the goals.
The goal here was to introduce a game with two equal canons. This is why the marketing was about two equal gender. No company would spend million of dollars for a false marketing. The task for devs was to make such game.
Either the devs did a bad work or they are simply boycotting the exec decision about having a male main character.
As I said before - there is absolutely nothing wrong about having a female as main character.
But there are people, like me, believe it or not, that wanted to experience this story as a male Eivor with full immersion. Unfortunately, this is not possible, bcs the game always reminds you that the devs do not agree with your vision and the vision of their executive management.
@carcharodon75
Even more than.
Yet there are minority of players with this knowledge advantage of yours. I bet the major portion players won't even be able to understand it, due to speaking different languages.
Thank you for sharing!
For me Eivor sounds like a similar name to Ivar (Ivarr).
@gloomseeker white supremacist fantasy? The heck are you talking about?
Norse people and/or the people living in the northern part of the world are dominantly white with light colored hair with some variations.
It has nothing to do with games, politics or beliefs. It is what it is.
This is an ethnic group. you cannot write it under white supremacists ideology or definitions...
@dredgenpreacher if you raid enough with him, Vagn will tell you his story.
@ubit00n yes, pls fix this. It is really annyoing. Same thing, like with end cutscene where Basim sits and has a bleeding effect, seeing female Eivor, although I played with male character. Seeing another person appear deminishes all the effort, I have put into the game, because this particular scene is important and touching.
Also Ubisoft representatives pre-release mentioned that both genders will be canon.
Ubisoft, please release music from the fight with Dag. It is awesome
@leoraptor1979 this was exactly my point at the beginning of my thread.
I enjoy a good game, also games with women as leads.
I dont like when they promote a certain plot and then do not deliver it.
You wont go to a candy store to buy a cake, only to find out home that it ain't a cake, but a somewhat cooked pork or beef...
@mhwtf what do you think doesn't exist?
I don't understand you.

@gloomseeker "If you start ranting about not wanting to play a "leftist" game then you're setting yourself on the opposite end of the spectrum, so no need to be coy about it. By the way you're the one bringing politics into the discussion so you can't complain when people call you out on that."
Did I? Please remind in which game, when you start playing, there is huge banner hanging there without the possibility of skipping, saying :" This game was developed by multicultural team of various beliefs, gender and sexual orientation"? Pff. This is bringing politics in the game, not me. They are not writing it for their own amusement. They do it to please media, because media then will be more soft towards them and promote the game better.
Don't tell me that I promote politics. Lol.
"A viking, historically and 99.9% of the time, is a male. A brute male."
You know very little about actual vikings if you believe they were mindless brutes. The whole sentence reeks of toxic masculinity... Who would exalt the idea of men being savages without any trace of intelligence or reason?
I have never said that they were mindless. Lol.
Don't take my word out of the context. They were brutes, it is a fact that their diets were much better and included more protein, hence the average scandinavian was more developed and healthy than a European. Not much changed since then either and also majority of scandinavian would receive a basic battle training. They were brute people adapted to the harsh climate, where the only source of food and resources was the balance of cultivating and plundering their neighbors for goods.
In any case, I'm sorry (not really) to burst your bubble but not every viking was blonde with blue eyes.
My bubble? You really can't read the whole text. You just pluck out my words out of context.
This is a stereotype, captain Obvious. Of course they weren't all blonde and with blue eyes.
The majority of people see vikings as tall men with blonde or light hair and blue eyes. This is a stereotype, a world-wide btw.
You should try and keep up with recent studies, there's been a lot of progress since the 1930s.
Progress in what? There has been a lot of progress since 1930's in many fields, including making the idea of viking's even more romantic than they were.
@wastelandstag ok, this is your opinion.
But there are other people who want to play it in a certain way and cannot because the game forces them otherwise.
@lordraven4430 you debunked absolutely nothing. Those were merely your assumptions based on the assumptions of historians.
Sagas are the only viable source of information we have about their way of life.
My issue is not with that.
My issue is a misleading marketing campaign. They promised equal gender choice, yet the game forces you to play as a female by calling you feminine pronouns, playing cutscenes with female Eivor and etc and etc.
Yes, I don't like it.
I wanted to play they way it was promised that I will be able to play.

@lordraven4430 read sagas. There is plenty of info there. Shield-maidens were rare.
Returning to my point. I have nothing against it
I dont like the promotion of the game. It was misleading.
And come on... Odin as female... Thats bollocks.
Would've seen Thor as some smoking brunette or if to be accurate with the norse mythology - as a smoking hot ginger
So much time and opinions have gone through here.
And still no official response from Ubisoft team.
Shame, really.
