The cost of gaming has changed in last 2 decades.
Hiring and keeping talents and general good programmers in your own studio working costs more.
If a company verticalizes like Ubisoft did (it means, in this specific case of ubisoft that was making games only some years ago, to actually also create your own platform for distributing games too, and not letting others - Steam etc. - do the job and rip the taxes from it) sure, it gains more but also costs more especially when you fail a game!
The failure was basically wanted. Desired, it was not an accident. And even if it was, this is the darkest way, to come to a solution to Ubisoft and in general increasing costs companies.
(costs are also sudden like energy: think about energy costs nowadays... Energy companies are raising prices because of habits of living of people have MASSIVELY changed and of consuming too due to the pandemics and also general understanding that climate change is a huge issue, not like lobbies want us to believe).
Game studios electricity costs a lot, HW buying and maintenance and so on... (and these are only two factors of cost increase). Think about tons of direct and indirect costs, fixed and variables, also the corporation of game developers that of course demanded rights to be respected (stuff that was pushed from Journos with an agenda like Kotaku director with personal interests in making game development more financiarized, and less like it was before, because after all there also journos that have hands in the pot, playing like inside trader, knowing that if companies fail to cover costs and break even will have to resort to more financiarization of their daily (typical) economy: using DLC, MTX, NFT and more...
Things have changed, and yes, games are not anymore to have fun and play, immerse, personalize your experience, be in there, enjoy it with others, INTERACT with virtual, with AI and HUMAN (yourself and others).
No, now gaming is dying. Ubisoft is not anymore a videogaming company, they use that title to appeal people and then fall into an addiction spiral. Grinding, farming, MMO (for the sake of it) type of design, that is the death of gaming and game design aimed just at making you use your money to play.
We are going back to a "COIN OP" very low quality Arcade, with the means of modern days, not of the 80-90ties, from where I take the name of coin-op. Today the tools are infinite. First of all abusive communication, constant development of a game pretending it is co-created, or abusing what we produce and suggest instead of inventing it in the studios. Everything is outsourced, as a paradox the game itself is outsourced.
We are at a point where the software is given to us and we (those with a minimal taste remaining) manipulate it because it is simply so raw and so "give us your info and money" that we can't have fun in it. I doubt new generations have the anti-genes to be protected from this HUGE WINTER that is coming.
The fashion world is all about virtual production (they have destroyed entire communities, think about rivers in China and India, think just of the brain washing on Xinjang on cotton harvesters, that PRC great planners say "now have a job").
The fashion sector which is a huge lobby in France and Italy responsible for above 10% of GDP, are all about using the videogames world as a case study. We are going to go virtual, people that will be able to affort a internet connection or have time to use it, or will not be censored, will be using NFT based clothes to dress themselves instead of buying stuff. This is the cyber distopic transition needed in order to save the ability to live and breathe on the planet.
If we keep polluting rivers as we have done, and now we will use on the internet masks, and other stuff, like "skins".
All the dolce and gabbana and other groups new products and concepts are all about "gaming with our lives" if you checked out.
Well I spend a lot of time living but also informing myself and I have access to tons of information so this is the reason why I am sharing all these info and a very complex picture (the reality, the truth) with you. I doubt many can as many of us are still following the compartmentalized way of living and education or do not have time to do this, and I respect it.
Well, getting to the conclusion: I was checking the recent dip of the crypto these days, at a very good web site which is "coinmarketcap". It is great and offers a very good summary at the top of the page showing what are the recent volumes traded, in the total so called "DeFi" markets (NFT, Metaverse and so on are all included and also separable), it tells you also how much of this whole pseudo decentralized thing is actually based on stable coins (which you must know what they are) and which are invented money that are based most of the times on banks that DO NOT OWN those money, they do not have those values, those assets those RESERVES, and anywya they hang it on real FIAT currencies, so actually there is no digital coins what so ever: THE DEFI is HANGED ON REAL STUFF, there is no digital reality besides the "complex" algos and various codes designed that sure are fruit of imagination and power that the digital world has enabled.
Now I am gonna shared what I digged, what I found, by searching at coin market cap .com the word QUARTZ and after a first moment I thought something wasn't leading to the right place I found out who are the people Ubisoft CEO Guillelmot is dealing with and what stuff he has in the head. Well, what to say more? Welcome to Hell.
Stop playing Ubisoft games if you believe videogames of quality still have a future. Stop wasting your time with this trash at least Ubisoft Pseudo Tom Clancy, Pseudo Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Act against it, or in favor of it, but make your INFORMED CHOICE, stop getting fed smoke, fog, disinformation, censored stuff. STOP THAT AND MAKE THE LEAP! Get informed or you are just a pawn, a servant, a poor miner that will just waste time in nothing helping masterminds getting richer with your unconscious activity.
This is the matrix, put this in your head, we are in it, the more you ignore and live in the bliss, the more you not suffer but the more you help it growing, darker and darker. And it will happen that the darkness will make you part of it, by giving you some of its force, making you feel richer, better... but this is gonna destroy gaming.
Games that use DLC as predetermined removed from DAY 1 content and feed you before to cover the revenue projected by giving to nothing huge prices (it's the case of GRBreakpoint, sold at 9 and then with these "Season" season what?.. like it was a binge watching tv serie!... Season pass at more than 10, it means they are using DLC as a SECOND CHANCE , but most do not understand it nor know why this is so. Second chance means like trying to sell a game a second time to try to cover cost and build the needed revenue, not just reach break even by inventing "new reasons" why the player should bend and put hands to the pocket.
You all, we all are doing this and are killing games.
Now "second chance" is NFT, it will be infinite chance. And I ask you a ground breaking question: Who do you think will ever be interested to make good design, good gaming, invest in tons of good talents or even a few of them, when using DLC, MTX and NFT will grant to make break even indeed without even making a good quality game, with good interesting mechanics, good writing, good pacing, respect of player time, quality interaction, QoL stuff, and so on. Who do you think will care of if (you, so many of you repeat this cliché without even understanding what it means) you all say "games are made to profit".
Who do you think will ever make good games if they know they can resort to DLC, MTX and NFT to actually reach break even?
Personally when I get a GPU, I will play Wildlands in co-op as it was my plan to continue the hardcore immersive campaign, but I doubt I will support this. Unless they completely abandon this, and kick out Guillelmot and other Suit and tie hawks from the Ubisoft group.
This is the stuff and page you must access to decide what to do:
https://coinmarketcap.com/ (main page)
https://coinmarketcap.com/nft/ (highest prices sold... this is basically what PUBG did with Gabe Newell (pure evil) on Steam market when in 2017 PUBG was released and in China it became a true addiction, internet cafe opened jhust to have kids gain credits in order to be able to buy crates and then sell those items inside and make money). - guess why China (for many other reasons) is banning gaming for kids, try to understand why, it takes some knowledge to understand the reasons...)
It will seem pretty large and wild to understand but these names titles, rules and additional coins and structures are just fruit of imagination, it's nothing really to understand. Think of finance as a human creation, even simpler than maths, maths is a language, finance is simply imagination, it's a big game, and it has no limits.
At stock exchanges people even do investments or protect their business by predicting weather, if it will be good or bad tomorrow (futures), I am sure this is something most of us ignore. There are tons of finance tools, and with the digital world and "defi" this thing has gone on steroids.
Gaming will be butchered by kids that play like the most hawkish finance suit and tie guy or woman. This is already a reality since quite some years.
In those pages you can find this specifically referred to Ubisoft and gaming:
(around 2 months ago till today - it all happened "suddenly" around november december 2021)
https://coinmarketcap.com/headlines/news/ubisoft-injects-tezos-based-nfts-into-one-of-its-worst-live-service-games/ (ubisoft injects ... mm interesting ... remember decisions are made on advisors, people that know stuff: so what Guillelmot knows we do not know? Sure, advisors he has do not play games or play trash stuff... and that's what I think we are going to be offered more and more if this is the advise CEO listen to).
... good reading.
I made a selection of the news, but I should not, you should check yourselves freely: history of sandlock platform is recent, very recent.
Ubisoft wanted to be "the first" in this... and since they are so focused on making games, first of all you make sure you have the finance to continue the business. So they did this. SO they aim to make money in order to make games.
What about going less vertical or opening less studios and making fewer games and acquiring less franchises ?
They have 2 huge ones Tom Clancy and Avatar (just a licence for this one)... Why don't they just focus on game making and improve it and then, yes they even might take these new roads explaining how they will benefit people that play and others, but not like this!
The management of this company is utter trash not to say else. (or really cares from gaming in an infinite and deep way for me not possible to understand at the moment) - Surely good stuff will happen one day, but this is not the way to do that, this is a way to save investors dividendi which is the main problem for guillelmot. I can't imagine how many divested from Ubisoft after last 3 years allegations...
Read and inform yourself from stuff you verify is good but also from not good stuff, do not ban stories, do not ban nor mute people voices. our reality today is filled with stories, we all have a story a truth, it has always been like this. It will never change. and if it does we die.
Truth is made of stories, do not stop informing yourself do not believe in fake news censorship, check out what you can and if u have scarce time focus on the quality stuff without spending too much on anything.
Also from invented stuff, sometimes agendas or other stuff can be learned.
@en075 Hey, yes I get it.
I just have knowledge that art must be remunerated. This is a pillar. That's what I meant. Indeed going to mix with the standard trash of "mOaR cOnTeNt", upload now, addiction to trash generally there is, would just not work for this.
But who made this rule of having to upload regular stuff like we internet creators were TVs got it completely wrong. I could say, we could digress more on this (and anyway it's totally in topic, so useful for the talk here), anyway this standard and "silent rule" of uploading constantly in order to be payed is more like a British custom or maybe a thing invented from TV (which was and still is as old media all are) a way to leash competition: nobody can produce constantly good stuff if there is not a studio behind it. If Patreon itself bases its rules in order for a creator to get remunerated that he\she has to be regularly uploading, then Patreon or such things are instilling the venom of anti-quality and also discrimination.
Not all have chance to grab a studio of people around ones own project. I don't think I don't need to say more.
Art can and should be always remunerated (and somebody could tell me: why don't you start to pay, well I might do that or just even help you in other ways).
There are just totally inhuman levels and abuse of our media and digital tools today and way a lot has been normalized.
Regarding the "official" discord of Ubisoft (which Ubisoft itself told me, we have no control over it, I have been banned, I won't comment because a rule is not to comment moderation decisions also over other web sites... I just explained you in another venue, how that works... it's just extremely sad who is behind these things is left operating without any transparency. Some people piled up on me and just started to beat with clubs and that's enough (in any forum for the mod to actually remove the cause of noise, not trying to understand what is really behind... and this is a general comment... anyway I don't care to be part of such a discord "official" server, but scared to confirm it is so and be responsible, if this is the rule enforced by users. The problems with forums is that at some point power ends up in the hands of users that are not supposed to run the forum\server etc...
Regarding the project, I am sure you have tons of ideas, I know what it feels to be a creative machine, it's painful and self energizing, that fire never sleeps.
No need to thank me, I am just happy to find a cool player. More than that.
Regarding your job and wow other activities, that's pretty much already a lot of work. Even scuba diving and granting security and mental health of people hit by dangers and issues on phone, that's pretty delicate job, I remember how hard was to support a wife that had his husband stuck on ski lift once when I was at a reception... (the guy then was found alive and brought back by emergency snow bikes fortunately despite in an area filled with crevasses, he lost a ski from the lift and wanted to recover it.. but it got dark...) I hope the training will be answering all your needs and sure it will give a bigger perspective, maybe you will run the office, if you don't already do that, despite going up in the ladder removes chance to directly act on stuff. (this goes in the category of leadership talk you have been writing of here and there, in our conversations around this more than "Game-book" you have been creating).
What I can say maybe is that the style of Episode 3 (it's pretty short maybe for your taste) is really what maybe can work better... but who better than you can know this? you have all the stats (in youtube\google studio), after around 1000 views those stats start to become a speaking sample, before those numbers of views it's not really relevant what people will like or not like and behave on the video.
Statistics is a very good field of study to know the basics of (at least), it really gives you autonomy and freedom from stupid stuff that circulates in tv and everywhere nowadays ... but won't digress on this.
The predator thing was a bit "stand alonish" thing, I don't know how much money Ubisoft pays for these cameos, I think they pay enough to destroy the entire production... from the actor that made the Wolf, to Terminator, to Predator etc. 5.11 equipment (maybe pays Ubisoft), anyway... all those investments are really a drop of water in the desert, they won't make any effect, actually damage a quality production I think. So ... doing a predator related set of videos, "get to the chopppaaa"... maybe where at the end you don't even kill the predator, it just stays alive hunting you for the entire serie AHAHAHAH, would in the end make a big service to Ubisoft for this water drop (Predator) in the desert thrown into a game (GRW) of which production I heard was really riddled with issues (Ubisoft almost got close to shutting down the game project), hence you would enhance value of a part that has been left there.
There is a mission there near the forest that is really well fitting with a predator wet setting. That bidonville\harbor ... where a lot of heads could be popped open by the triple laser lad.
One thing I really like in episode 3 but in general in what I saw until now thoroughly 1-2-3, is that you develop the audio compartment as you can do that more easily as it is easy to control it in an episode then in creating a game where barks of NPC or else could just become out of place if they indulged in enriching too much the production. It's no easy task for any game dev studios to do it well especially open world sandboxes.
Anyway... I suggest to keep working on that because when watching videogames or playing (I dnt like really to spend time watching in general, as much as I like writing as u see) and your videos it's also refreshing to see so much dedication to stuff that is not developed much (for many reasons indeed). For example a bad ruined game like Hunt Showdown at least has a cool audio compartment and that makes any game shine. The innovation of the amazing Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice is too amazing and you see all the depth and service one can do with just developing more the audio (that includes not just good music choice and interaction with words or actions of it as u do, as rythm too .. overlapping with avatar deeds, without ever making it too trivial) it can also include just use and expansion of the sounds making them more granular or effective in unleashing a powerful hardcore effect in the watcher\ player mind.
Production cannot make really the sound of a banger be long (unless it's a hardcore game ... infact sometimes banger effect or other stuff is made realistic just by modders that do not operate under PEGI or other marketing rules - a too dark game will not be played by streamers bla bla bla)...
So... in definitive people like you using the full package with no real rules to abide, can really make such experiences shine. (The banger sound at the end of episode 3 could be prolongued until the end of the video as it can signify the UNI forces incoming aggression and "bad times"\suppression on your character)...
Thanks for what you are doing! It's pretty cool. When you got time continue, I really hope you will be able to do an episode per region of Bolivia at least and maybe do something\produce one day when GRB is really "ready" (big word) for what was called release once, also on that game.
Maybe as I am trying to do with NHT, just to start also in future, when I will get a GPU again, to have a light transition or to say better, involvement of GRB as we as NHT will keep focusing our realism\tactical\strategical milsim on GRW anyway as I get active again.
See you soon.
I think the forum will enable the PVT messages later so we can write through that too sometimes, if not in other ways.
Thanks again, pleasure to meet you!
I am not a MOCAP or a game designer so I can't talk of how to do stuff, sure not or why.. maybe speculate on that but not here.
But of the feeling character moves give yes, I can.
Let's do this experiment
Just watch this video from 1:18 and up to 1:44 30 Seconds.
Just notice Nomad in GRB and then GRW animation and movement.
GRB as way fast movement, it feels accelerated like TC The Division almost (if one starts to run in TD it is pure death of immersion), not so polished and to me "uncanny valley" generating. Why Devs made this choice? Any chance to reduce this speed? Maybe there is even a skill that interacts with this and leaving it vanilla avoids the character to move this fast? Yeah.. for this maybe I am dreaming.
But can devs actually put some effort in reducing uncanny valley? I have been protesting also for the speed with which the legs move when our character is moving while crouching. It's incredibly ballerina-feeling speed, like a tip toe dance. How can "apparently" no one protests or notice this? Doesn't take an incredible developed taste to notice that it kills immersion with every move.
Wildlands moves create a story just by pressing forward and locking to walk speed the character. With a joypad u can even have more granular movement instead, accessing thanks to the pad to what keyboard in this case unfortunately doesn't allow, offering up to 3 walking speed.. very slow, medium and medium fast before, with a little push more the character starts to jog. Wildlands moving character shoulders attitude etc are so cool...feels like real, it feels like natural and human, less mechanical, it feels the mocap has a personalization, it is humanized, not a ragdoll ... and can even reach a level u dnt see all move actually in the same way, it has this level of precision.. it is a master piece.
Well from this post you understand the level of detail for me is crucial in order to immerse in ... in this game at least, if not all games.
In Days gone for example the game moves right left up and down the head bobbing if u watch in these 4 directions (for 1 second and then auto reset to center) while you actually are also offered the up down, left and right view (the view remains in that direction while the head goes back to the standard position if u keep the direction pressed and anyway it feels great... really.. however this level of detail is more for a sad and slow single player game as Days Gone, only this example is, the rest above no, I am seriously concerned of that).
... don't you feel that it's a missed opportunity to immerse? Do you feel those movement that were sold as "mocap" on a french SF fighter, are a bit uncanny valley mode on?
EDIT: I noticed that there is a perk\skill that adds up movement and less stamina consumption (not that I wanted to unable it in GRB as I play hardcore if I play) maybe not adding that +10\15% speed will allow better animation, but I believe vanilla is still too speedy.
I hope somebody can add like me her\his own cents into the pool... Thanks.
@flanker1six I can add on this one more thing, and anyone who wants to see a casual content on this can watch a maybe 4 years ago video from "Pretty Good Gaming" (UK based) video that features this news\facts quoting EU case studies.
Actually modding isn't piracy, but piracy it is proven that if limited is (as even the Napster case, it's modern day earlyu digital age history) actually helping art to be known and be appreciated.
The video that featured the study ... well I could not find now... well I just discovered that in this grind situation of SMC and corpo greed and things changing in economies and societies also Pretty good gaming got caught and does not exist anymore.
Anyway that co-creation is the future (and ubisoft knows this...even if pretends not to) also this thing on piracy tells it: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/09/eu-study-finds-piracy-doesnt-hurt-game-sales-may-actually-help/
Of course I am not supporting the hard way and criminal piracy: as artists should always be remunerated for their creation. Always bear it in mind. I am just saying stuff that if you have a brain and grain of salt and critical skill, you can understand without jumping onto the inquisitor chair. (just talking in general, not directed at anyone - it's just that these trolling inquisitors I am sure you all know, are nowadays everywhere...).
Ever heard "steal this book", "Steal this cd" written from some artists on their creations? well this connects to the whole thing of "negativity" which is also nowadays used at irresponsible levels to engage people in the role of spreading something and make it become big. The thing that came out with Haugen case, tells to the masses this thing which is known from insiders and people who study and read, since not just decades, but much more : negativity engages people deeper.
Another proof? Passionate people do engage in helping a franchise, a company, despite one lowers the bar of its software status and deems it releasable when it's not ready...
Steam Games? The more they allow negativity to spread the more people will write and so on... and they can data extract every single word and content uploaded on their plaftorm, (alla billions of dollars sold).
In the end what Ubisoft will do with this here?
I think that they will take this and embed it in a future update, and finally have the real immersive mode. It will be just like the "Animus control panel" for immersive mode. It will override all the unready for release stuff they gave players. May you all be blessed for having played the game despite all these deficits it had.
The ACP here:
I did not checked if anyone posted this article from actual Ubisoft:
It was published on Ubisoft official web site on December 3rd.
What to say? We ignore maybe what is NFT potential, but I do not see why they should do this when GRB still has to be a game.
This is a alpha version, and they want to install this decentralized "co-creative" system? I surely ignore, I do not hide that... we humans fear new things, it's normal.
But why not respecting first of all game development and players as a FIRST PILLAR?
They care for co-creation? Really? why they haven't listented to at least 1 2 3 ideas we had for making the military simulation experience shine?
The mod that came out should be remunerated. Who will remunerate it? Ubisoft? I think we shall remunerate the maker\s of the mod. Not just with a Nexus "good uploader" reward.
I copy paste my thoughts posted on Steam activity yesterday:
(...) They are pushing decentralization. They speak of gatekeeping (a gatekeeping we would be able to do with the NFTs as this system develops), and I want to say that it just defeats what they are talking about, what they are supporting.
They can't even gatekeep their talents, they can't gatekeep quality of their game design and the good tradition of their brands (see GR, see AC, which could have just kept on offering good writing, good mechanics, deeper stuff, or however not worse than before).
And then they tell us they can gatekeep and help us getting remunerated for the co-created stuff we generate.
Sure, gaming is all about and will be all about (like cities, politics, economy) co-creation, but hey, they can't even do well their core business "for some reasons", and they now throw it all into "decentralize" for the good of all.
Hell no. Hell no Ubisoft. Hell no Yves Guillelmot.
IMPORTANT: let me add something that is not an all out critique to Ubisoft which, I know, I am too often all about.
If we read further in the article there is a clear interest of Ubisoft in trying to influence the block chain towards the POS, and not POW, apparently. This means they are seeing the fall, I believe, despite all say the industry is growing,it's booming, I think the game consumption at least on PC is not so healthy.
If the demand for GPU is all based on mining, I think sooner or later PC development will feel it.
besides all the backlash there has been on this "decentralized - co creative gaming world" they wrote on December 3rd that they aim to use "clean" NFT and more.
But sincerely... how can gaming be about earning money.
Can please they state: "We can't do anymore games as we used to do before" , it's too expensive for us, we have become too big etc..
However my critical standpoint remains, they need to fix their core activities, they can't go all about co-creation. Sure let us mod games etc and get payed for what we create, but I don't care about getting payed. Gaming cannot become about money. I am worried of this transoformation of gaming into an all around "creative" job...
I also do strive to create immersive experiences, but getting payed? Who is going to pay me? Why should I get payed, the reward is in spending time with friends. What the hell... quality time with friends.
The "play to earn" and ... rest, to me is scary. Well who doesn't want to live off of gaming, maybe not us all, I would like to do else in my life, but I also think this concept can really be dangerous for what games will be.
Already microtransactions destroy games as they inject\install in their systems stuff that wouldn't be there and would be offered in a more immersive and handcrafted manner by devs if MTX weren't there, now also this? I think this can be really a threat.
What I maybe don't see is that good games, for Ubisoft have now become impossible to do. So to stay on surface, instead of doing the good development cycle, they want to put in our hands the power (actually the responsibility) to make the gaming experience be good. Why these big companies do not restructure completely what they are instead to go FINANCE MODE ON?
The entire world is becoming co-creation and will be all about this, no doubt, but why gaming cannot be just gaming? I need to understand quite some more stuff to get a grip on these topics... I know some people that know more who are insiders of game design and talk of these topics every week in public.
I feel that Ubisoft wants to do this because they own with their mega corp shape tons of brands and they are interested in doing this cross-media, cross-games stuff that they have tried in last years more and more.
I think they want to bring us where they want to go, this is something that makes me even more suspicious...
WHy can't they just keep doing good games? as they used to do 5+ years ago ?
This idea of the Multiverse (Meta launched), which is connected to NFT like hard connected is just wrong to me. Multiverse is bad, and Ian Bogost explains very well why.
(this distopic idea of cyberpunk ubiquity isn't a healthy one...)
Do you want to be spied all day long?
DO you want to be data extracted all day long and not remunerated for all those data you give and other sell to profile you? Well you are already.
Why the hell they think we want to become just like (MATRIX movie) human batteries of their mega corporations? We are really going to become batteries I think if people do not study and wake up.
@illyriuswarrior Yeah, regarding drones, actually GRW does have a detection radius of enemy .. i dnt know how silly is the GRB game but as far as I see it was an alpha thrown there, and I do not understand why we are here really, instead to focus on GRW and improvbe it.. since we could have so much fun there. And we would be giving such a stronger signal, also because there is no big fantasy there no Super sayan\ Power ranger enemy skins which instead GRB is filled with... from the Bodarks to much more unrealistic stuff no story.
It's great to see how many names of different users\players have come here from everywhere... to write something. This is a very resourceful and cool community, I just hope we can put our effort on quality stuff instead to spend time with things that suck all the energy but stay procedural lackluster.
So far I loved what I read from y'all, like really all... everyhwere in the forums, sharing ideas on how to immerse, more do alternative stories more believable approaches to the game and so on... all suggestions and interpretations that just enhanche or even change my perspective sometimes on how to live a game or another and improve ultimately the experience of the player. I love this sort of immersive lab a community can be.
Regarding game bugs, for GRB we must create bugs pages to report stuff so the live teams of maintenance can go in map spots for exmaple and close the "infinite fall" locations (to say one).
@virtual-chris Just a rapid feedback on Moonstone, maybe instead of behemoths (I like the sensible suggestion to players that hate fantasy and damage sponges stuff.... to make short work with that vehicle lol)... however you could make a couple of "SAM" sites destruction be taking the place of that first mission of operation Moonstone, in the place of behemoths. AA sites would also bring old vibes... not so old Bolivia vibes.
Another feedback for biometric entry: grade them toyellow orange and red.
yellow allow enemy to be dead, rorange, need the hostage to be alive passed out max, red need you to carry the walking enemy with you to the door. This adds on the actual tactics and gameplay which otherwise are super dull.
Some could be that you ID the target in the mission. Or only the wolf can actually open the door, access a pc with password etc.. not any enemy. This will bring the SBC cowboy hat cool mission (that was used as trailer for GRW)... guuud vibes.
Virtual-Father Christmas, the idea of language change on NPC is crazy good (it's a pity we need to change the language...) Well Spanish will be the choice... ehehe u know why.
However if we turn audio in spanish it will turn also our avatar audio in spanish and that's not really believable maybe...unless our avatar stays in english by default or it is actually separated\granular setting. I hope so.
For silverstone, archaeological artifacts related: one thing could be done is a Environmental protection set of missions (we role play that with the filter we check the water quality and then discover if the location is contaminated and act upon it)
However archeological protection could justify the creation of a monument men package of missions: we ensure no artifacts are stolen and brought back to the locals \ museum or something (these are actual thing military personnel specialized in these things does irl). - high dose of RP though. Involving taking pics of locations and reporting them to the Interpol cooperating with UNESCO and other institutions and Military authority for CUltural good conservation...
So in definitive?
Play the entire silversone and greystone, then head on episode 3, and the set of content u suggest to play in various post I also asked u and u answered me, and then go for moonstone and bye bye.
How is that? Then go back for conquest .. once ubisoft allows to play them without HUD though.
btw, u are a machine.
@en075 Wow. A dream. I always believed there was light in the end. And there it is.
This is deep.
I can't hide I had to skip it, as it's 5 am now here...trying to avoid ending spoilers and I just made it land immediately in my watch lat... soon videos on yt. (with subscription too but this is too cliché and feels like I am a bot. No, instead, is it possible to know you or know more?).
And since I saw it's ep2 I think i must check chapter 1 of this before going through this.
I maybe would make the reading much slower and less filled with a thick narrative like this, slower just like the clouds in Bolivia or the cranes in Montuyoc...
I am sure you got plenty of riches from your story board ... anyway the Kerouac style is interesting anyway... or Joyce, like a sort of flux of conscience at times really feels. (like my posts... i can't really write).
I was at first confused, then I understood it's a book and you are somehow like a Game writer, you are. And the photography slower. I don't know I can't speak of this as you are the expert, there sort of Kerouac of Bolivia. I loved the mid part ... wow that was "oppressive" suffocating.
Lot of work in general, but can't talk of this haven't seen it from start to finish, I would love to share later when I do Ep1 or else.
What I would make and started once to play the game with parallel to our gameplay to have a second "ghost mode" save was to use the DyinEarth costume and play just during the day (night no NVG since Dying earth is a costume and they don't allow customization) and play as a Biker. Oneof the cool thing would be playing the game as a biker team... hell yea...of course just 5th SFG ppl under cover... ehehe.
I would really like to meet you and learn more.
I wish I knew english\american like this and start a game writing career, what a dream I just saw.
I created in 2019 NHT - no HUD team
and we started with this game GRW and to play it with an immersive take, flashing out the canon story with the discord server used in part as an HQ of an imaginary 5th SFG, just replicating what happens and in briefing creating some NPC ID\stories but nothing crazy besides the mission briefings....
I have to confess in my deepest skin layers lies a creative hornet like you, but wow, you know how to use that sting!...
What you created is a pretty engaging video-book narrative experience and ... i just wanna go for ep1 now and 2.
I feel like being in those brain memories, you feel like in the mind of the character as his thoughts overlap, reshuffle, mix, alternate, fight each other etc...
I want to share something I discovered 1 month ago, it's these guys from TFN (Task force neptune I randomy l found, like you surfing the fabolous internet, and that have right the style I like to play the game with, with our NHT small crew too. "Realism milsim" it is.
They have some creative stuff but the comms traffic, it is amazingly done especially in "Operation Phantom". Won't post it here for respect. But who knows you can get some inspiration from those videos that dusty posted.
Meet you soon.
Yes I answered 2 of them, one was on the Job \careers and popped up and was pretty invasive somehow, they got tons of info, and the first one I got was yhesterday from here instead and anyway was on the Forum (which is clearly in development if you see from your profile settings you can understand that in many ways...)
Anyway Ubisoft for all that info (I)we give they should have gifted the user with Ubicoins even if I understand that the survey is anonimous, this still should have been gifted to players, maybe 50 per survey... u know so to have next time we buy something the discount they give 100 coins owners that wanna use those coins...
For the survey on the forum I of course posted many ideas especially stuff that related to GRW to try to improve and keep that.. but also on how a dev mod could behave like interacting more with us but also letting us know what they do like and not like, enabling convos, fluidifying convo, and bringin gaming company like ubisoft to a whole new level. The old way of game dealing must die.
We must play and interact maturely between us and with devs because ahead is a future of co-creation and mutual learning, pretty deep... or no future. I suggested to see how EFT for example is handled by one of the Dev mods there, (Tobias Solem) and in general how the new form of game making should never try to fool players: if it's alpha testing you aknowledge it in front of players and of course work years in order to make a full game happen.
I just anyway focused on Forum in the survey did not went full scale pushy and critical... I just genuinely would like this Forum could be a start for something, and I see a lot of potential here in how it is built, in the people that are here... especially in what more than 50% of topics are on... and the posts... people also my fellow players mates are really concerned over where the immersive experience is gone since 2017 ... yeah.. They could have even just focused on GRW big DLC and people would have been crazy happy, even remaking GRW with the new anvilengine 2.0 power ... (many suggest it)... but now it's too late.
Since 2019 should take up to 2025 to make a new game. Hopefully a prequel to GRB aka sequel of WL, or just a prequel to WL...
It takes at least 5 - 6 years to make a good game (for a company like Ubi it can't take more as they can't wait 8 years like real AAA makers, usually that's the time needed at least 8 years), however GaaS has changed everything. Now games bleeds for years with this pseudo content push in ... that shifted the focus on company needs (read greed) from player\ target audience satisfaction (through what was game design and deep writing\ game mecahnics development)
@er1cksson Copy that. Yes I opened a page or the PDF itself or the old forum and read that this is actually the game played by some devs in the spare time...
Well thanks anyway

It will never happen, this is just a speculative move, and it will destroy gaming in this dark phase of low earning (which exist due to many reasons like the consequence of many factors, the HW price surge, and cost of making games to the stars and much more many do not consider). This speculative move has been done to fill in with some test and tries and also grab money from investors that want someone to be beta testers of this.
CEOs know that gamers will hardly abandon gaming in general and they are always in time to make a good game to make them come back to em, home.
The thing is https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2021-11-05-baseless-nft-hype-hits-a-crescendo-but-its-play-to-earn-thats-worth-watching-opinion this explains very well why this is not going to happen.
Once you get the concept from any article or also alone of what they are doing you get this is basically what PUBG was: a casino royale based on coin drops that allowed you to get a Box that you could resell on Steam store.
That was a test, but also CSGO is all about it.
WIth those "earnings" wasting their time, kids earn money to be able to buy expansions for games and so on... it's nothing big.
Play to earn can also be done also boosting up any account and then reselling. A practice of play to earn that was immediately censored from so many companies the article reminds us. This was born with Massive Multiplayer online open world games.
I always said since years that we live also in a Massive Multiplayer online open world game... and in fact many writers did not go in late to write all their books and articles and so on on these topics reassuring my vision and understandings were correct.
The thing is there is a poverty in understanding these things around that I have always been worried.
The article linked in this post will make sure all the rest of this fud by Guillelmot get lip service it got, completely erased and all this financialization and securitization of our data and lives as players comes undone...
This is never going to happen
I believe that the strategy here is this one from Guillelmot: once this fails, he will just play the "blue prince role that saves the deal", by saying, "Ok now ubisoft is going to pull out of NFT and anything gambling-like" and this joining, now, of NFT and greedy corpo play to earn thrown scheme on players is going be used as a trampolin to jump to positive phase for the company. Somehow just like he has done with the sexual stories that probably some journos have pumped up too much away from the reality.
Patrarchalism and many other issues are a problem in our societies and they are unfortunately held under a veil of silence and since quite some ... centuries.
More to be added, an insider confirms that 95% of projects on NFT today are pure scams.
He says that most of people against this are elder intoxicated and their cronies, (and I agree), I know that these opportunities are great, agreeing with him, and it will take time to make things happen.
The idea of buying these items without any project or real effect and interaction shows how these things are mere scams.
Few only will survive if any in this new adventure. Now everybody jumped in as it is at COST ZERO to join and see what happens.
Again, the best only will survive. These applications can become games of their own, as these systems can be shaped as the creator want, and they can also be connected to the game or totally not related to the game. (probalbly this second option might be a refuge option in case Ubisoft is so stubborn to keep it alive in case of failure of in game interactions\relation). If the relation is created between NFT and game then I am sincerely worried...
This will allow in general to fulfill the dream to work at ubisoft or for ubisoft in various roles and earn a lot, or also to play and earn a pension... so basically not ahving to work.
This kind of stuff is generally BS... The silly thing is that if they had stable games as many say this would be a good idea, good quality games etc, as long as they offered a project on what they wanna do, but this, as it has been presented is just a scam at the moment.
No wonder many employed in the company, also for other reasons, have left Ubisoft... but probably also because they need a new hardcore in the company of HR to be working with these new philosophy...
@waylon_k Equipment personalization would enhanche realism and immersion.
Indeed some stuff can feel to arcade, but can be compensated if one uses bigger back packs... or uses a pick up to move around for some of the ops.
Anyhow in wildlands there are already safehouses: some are open, some are ex other parties safehouses one can use to plan and do stuff, they are not made self explanatory, but if you create
the scene and the setting and have other willing to "soft\hard role play" in the game you will find ways to flash out the quality of the experience.
The idea for Break point is certainly more sandbox, exaggeratedly sandboxed, in fact many gamers just go in like (looking\acting) tier 1, which is in general a non sense, both in wildlands and in breakpoint... especially in breakpoint, where the superiority of the Opfor is overwhelming and complex. (there is no place for a constantly present force in the island with the level of control Opfor has, also informative and digitally advanced like Skell tech gone rogue, at the level of Web3 ,, no even Web 4 I'd say).
The thing is: do players care of the story, do people think, reason, do players know how military settings work? Do people care for realism?... I think many talk of stuff but forget to get a full understanding of a meaning and all the things around it, from ligthness we have become superficial unfortunately. I love games that are not and experiences that treat heavy stuff with the ligthness needed to be divulgated to all of us as only a game can do... (so much that the entire world today has turned into a game, to confirm the success of this medium).
These might be opinion and I do not want to sound like ipse dixit, however I try to base opinion on facts and experiences, not just personal taste. Breakpoint also divides the players into personalizing machines and this breaks co-op potential, which is crucial to me.
Wildlands is a blast played with likeminded players, just like any game (I am sure also out of Breakpoint something good can be extracted, however the experience can be extremely time consuming due to the design of it, made on purpose to be a procedural lackluster, the philosophy of many games today, or experiences that force the player to consume traffic big time in them). ... I can make many games exaples. (this is because the more time, the more data you produce).
Always online gaming becomes just a slavery prokject to study gamers and use their action as a financial tool (which as I was telling years ago, now is proved correct) and has no sense in a over personalizable game that has no forced host\server rule to uniform the experience for those "guests" who join for the co-op. This is also doable in Widlaldns already: where all the players in the same instance can set their experience however they want.
Freedom is ok, but if developers do not understand the purpose of this liberties they end up cannibalizing the experience itself as the game will be populated from individuals who do not care to co-operate, hence why the hell investing in a co-op experience if you do everything to torn it to pieces removing tools to actually make the diverse taste and interest come together.
These games especially Breakpoint has a powerful dividing philosophy behind it, which makes it a cultural tool to actually inject in players the theory of NFT. Everyone is an investor and and author, but ... nobody really has fun or forgets what is really deep and quality interactive fun. Gaming is sharing rules.
Great Job Steve, steve... creativity will always stay queen and king over anything.
We are in this today in fact because financial markets invented in late 70ties - 90ties the derivates, financial instruments based on true assets, today we have a hyper liberalization of financial tools (actually tech tools, as AI has NO LIMIT, the limit is imagination as Rita J.King said) and now we have investments and risks that are based on derivates of derivates of derivates of derivates of derivates (to infinity almost) of assets.
This, not regulated, will lead to biggest crash as some already explained.
2008 is like tickling in comparison to what might be coming.
Crypto craze must be stopped M. Paris says. I add this few weeks ago article to the recent and less recent (last week) and 2017 I. Bogost's ones... Because this article too is pretty explanatory.
NFT might fail.
Anyway the idea of a gamer that becomes an investor, and also the play to earn, puts in second light the game design, the mecahnics and so on. This is totally against what a Player is.
And who will put rules and regulation on what is irresponsbile and what can be instead done (seen what is the UNREGULATED Loot design - Casino) ? No one.
So simply if this mechanism goes on we are screwed..
There will be gaming that is not worth to be called gaming (and already exist in my opinion).
Point is: if little kids and not so young gamers do foster this metaverse push this will succeed, and we must educate them or they must understand what this si all about. I doubt that many will take time to get a responsible understanding. And so NFT might succeed or just succeed in part, this will mean all games or part of the games (actually Non-games) will suck, and the rest will just innovate and improve what games are but staying games, not getting pseudo-decentralized.
If people knew what this FARSE of decentralization is, they would know authoritarianism (just like on reddit) and fascism of extreme "direct democracy" represents.
These block chain things are not improving, they just promise it, but in the end they are open and fragile to similar centralized and authoritarian (even worse) uncontrollable mechanisms that today dominate over our societies and also products.
This is just a try for some companies to save the boat in a speculative way.
Companies marrying this new web 3 system have just sold themselves as TEST PLATFORMS (as they have been in last 5-10 extreme beta testing years for many other in-industry processes that we have lived through) and aim to become filled with cash flow again with this anarchic capitalism move...
The future is extremely uncertain, and Ubisoft's and other CEOs might really got bored to manage a game company: they just wanna do else.
I always have feared those that come in gaming with the aim to profit of other people time instead to share time and quality experiences together, probably this is a new dark time . and not just for gaming we are entering.
Are kids awake? This is the question. Wake them up.
Some quotes: "If you can’t be in the physical office, you’ll be expected to be present in the virtual one—and monitored every minute you’re there." (what is a player online... then don't get surprised if NFT is called PLAY TO EARN...
and also ... still about the "working" topic: "In the context of Silicon Valley’s reliance on contract workers and outsourcing, that’s not a good thing to hear." --- don't tell me this doesn'tsound familiar to you.
It's the very reason why games suck today, companies outsource not just game testing on us, when it'stoo late, but also tons of chunks of stuff that is designed from stories, and various contents and drawn art that will be hard to be assembled then together by the leads unless the project manager are queens and kings of remote working.
These BigTechs owners are incredible trushes, they ignore what is philosophy, politics, economy, culture, art, design, tons of disciplines or sciences, they ignore interdisciplinarity and are incredibly irresponsible. What drives them is being the first and powerful "at something". They just know code and blinded from the power it can give. Somehow they are the architetcs of the matrix. And we will all pay in quality of experiences if we do not give power to those that are still capable to work in the modern complexity to produce good stuff.
The problem is the kids again, if the Chinese and new markets are unaware due to the fact they are not guided, they have zero experience but also western users, uneducated and unaware, immaturely foster these new trends this is going to really become a prison reality.
More stuff from the same article (sorry for being trivial): https://www.buzzsprout.com/1004689/9486910-why-the-metaverse-must-be-stopped-w-brian-merchant Guillelmot and Big Tech and fashion firms behind him won't like it.
You could find in this unofficial one: https://discord.gg/Nzvu7Pvh , yo ucan find in the "old Ubisoft forums looking for group pages" in case the link expires, one of the admin inviting to this "GR Wildlands community". (this info can be useful as a backup so this post doesn't become useless).
I hope this helped you, even if in 3 days you might even have as well solved already your quest, I would help I think if I was still on but it's 1 year and 4 months without PC for me due to a bad timing in the upgrade (november crypto craze affected me).
@steven527 Ok.. I am #beltless. You are #betlessing.
The idea of Chris is the SERE experience I told about in a topic (I imagined indeed it's a worthy one, true hardcore, truly meaningful - I am talking, to be clear from the beginning, to be played also in Co-op, simulating the true crash survival, people in map will all join together and then leave 10 to more minutes of delay before starting... and eventually after some hours, aka multiple sessions reunite...). The idea is indeed to play like that in my approach to this game I never installed. Bridging the two Bolivia and Pacific island into one story between which the players can jump in various sessions also to avoid "burn out" from always same-game playing beneficiating of a very well grounded story (all explained in the topics or hypotesized indeed in my posts grabbing at full hands from what others have produced).
5th SFG or anyway SF group is in Bolivia and under cover, I strongly am against this "tier 1" looking players that dress up like there was a everyday going on DA and no tomorrow... that's not realistic, it's strongly stand-alonish.
The players would be operating for some months in the ghost mode of GRW, no HUD etc. and around 2nd SBC operation shut down (which should be logically Security and then Smuggling, followed later by Influence and Production... as real deal would operate, following money - Honoring anti mafia magistrates Falcone and Borsellino, nowadays a normal praxis to find out about criminals), moving to the third (influence dismantling) will hear that a SF (5th) or same\fellow group members operation has encountered a crush.
Soon a window for SERE would open when playing GRB session and then slowly move towards a insurgent forces support and reobtaining of figthing capabilities for them, while Bolivia team are promptly informed and moving in (only in these cases in "tier 1" setups) in the pacific island on Intel obtained from the survived members on the island...Main ops would be still in GRW (the story is simply followed with some of course player created mission, done for (immersive) "reasons"), anyway every now and then, the players would progress (the shortest chronology playthrough of GRB, the best has been suggested in the topic by Chris and others, after SERE there will be stuff like Ultra realistic missions to recover indeed fitghting capability and also crucial to be able to unlock stuff (similar to how in NHT we played some UGC missions to recover weapons in some locations, simulating we came to know a smuggling of weps was happening in SBC camp, exploiting the poor\simple loot mechanic that is unfortunately\fortunately left streamlined and undeveloped in GRW and that is abused instead in GRB with loot boxes left everywhere... but here I would digress, my specialty)
Of course after the mod has been created I think it would be cool to play GRW in first person anyway.
Co-op operation including intel gathering each time and discussion and briefing etc would take at least 6months or 1 year with 4 meetings a month to complete GRW.
While for GRB I don't think more than 6 months in total with the shortest chornology and most realistic approach. Make it 2 years in total of gameplay in co-op which would leave a team of multiple friends bound together and experienced enough to coordinate in other settings.
@lolt6 Moderating is very hard and needs experience, and of course time.
Few want to spend time and usually moderators are new and with very patriarchal type of hierarchies, autoritative... stuff that goes totally AGAINST the gaming world which is strongly based on peers.
This is why moderation is just a myth today, good moderation is lost like tears in the rain. This anyway doesn't elevate who makes errors like me or others from having to be moderated.
However shutting down people with mutes, blocks, bans is against my philosophy, a lost chance for discussion and being human is a lost chance for everyone and a community, lost human value, a treasure to keep.
Limiting discussion over topics has been a huge problem in last decade or so... this has created more problems and low capacity to reinvent and grow up of community.
The immaturity of our relations is huge, immaturity of our gamers community is pretty big.
I wish for a more invested and passionate moderation of course in which moderators check all the topics posts (this today doesn't happen) and also a user base that is more watchful in what words it uses.
Like this time of moderation can be dedicated to what it counts.
The thing is that people need to come together with a pact over what we want to have, and once all agree we will be all or in greatest majority on fast track to reach such better communities that create value (for the players and not for a shady, hawkish data extractor).
@ice-quinn I was checking over last things I had the chance to read, and the move to a new platform might be connected to data collection due to the securitization and financialization model.
In this "newly pushed" economic model, information is crucial. Information & communication defines effects over the value of data which are into the market. You can see this everyday operated on recent catastrofic events of last weeks, I won't directly mention, or also in last 2 years, but also back to topic, just like in the crypto, all is based on information. So they check what we say, collect, analyze\study, control, use...
All is based on value now, all has a value, and more events like bomb reviwing, bomb posting, people going crazy over stuff and assaulting decisions of managers will happen as this transition to an aggressive financialized and securitized economy (not human and not stustainable and privacy breaking) will not be painless.
@en075 I preferred the longer version and you know which one I liked the most.
I can't imagine how being a director can be hard but you told me... it's interesting what you are doing also from a point of view of remote machinima.
Maybe you could do a mostly silent one, maybe recaps could be exactly that, with tons of "high octane" moments, and just simple narrative at beginning (in the mid) and end of the 2' video. (stripping it just from what tv serie formats generally do indeed since the "dawn of times").
I will watch in these days the episode I should have watched much time ago... anyway I find confusing, your titling as you called "episode 7" a recap.
looking forward to see results (which surely will take big Time, I do respect) of recent collaboration and hope you and those who joined in the next works will have a blast and manage to express best of your qualities as a successful SF team !
