I have to say I’ve always felt the same, with this series. I’ve never liked the modern day sections.
I honestly don’t know why people like the modern day animus sections.....
As soon as the game gets to those bits — I’m like right, how do I get this crap over with as quickly as possible and get back to the good stuff....
I personally HATE ALL ANIMUS BS....
I mean I know it’s enshrined in the lore of the game and everything, but I honestly feel that the game and the series as a whole would lose nothing just being about assassins throughout history.
I mean if they were to totally rip out all the animus stuff I think the game will lose absolutely nothing, and actually might be better for it.…
It’s always been my least favourite part of the game and I’m always trying to get that part over with as quickly as possible
I mean on paper it should be the best one. I definitely like the inclusion of social stealth.
But I have to say, Stealth is the worst aspect of this game.
There is very few stealth items or features that can be used to distract enemies or lure enemies away from their position. You have the whistle and that’s about it.
The AI is just rotten. They seem dumber than the previous two games, they get stuck on the scenery, and clearly struggle to keep track of the player when they’re alerted etc.
There was one enemy outpost With what seemed to be a higher rank enemy had on him some kind of wealth item. He would walk round in the middle of the outpost where there was civilians and other enemies middling about. It was quite clear from the layout that they wanted you to figure out a social stealth way of blending in at certain points, a bench, a table etc, before striking.
But as I was observing this situation, it honestly felt like the old Assassins Creed games, but not in a good way, the whole concept just felt dated, and it played out in a clunky way.
Stealth as a whole — theres just countless little niggles that really undermine the experience when you’re playing stealthily.
And I have to say, I never had this feeling when playing Odyssey. Odyssey’s stealth and AI felt at the very least functional, whilst not being anything particularly impressive.
Assassins Creed is about stealth right? So why is AI not seen as a priority??
It got me thinking — how sad is it that my only hope these days for games that includes stealth, is that the AI doesn’t completely suck!!
It’s like my expectations are SO low, that I never hope that the AI is actually good!
I honestly want this to change with this new generation.
Because I don’t understand how games 20 years ago had better AI than a lot of games today?
I mean I’m not unreasonable, I do understand that with these large open worlds comes a whole myriad of challenges with regards to pathfinding etc and coding AI.
But even still, I do hope we start to get better AI in games…
Do you know they really should include an option for this.
I loved it in the old FARCRY games, having to skin animals and have the animation for that. I found it really immersive...
personally I would like to see at least the option to include this animation back in the new FARCRY games.
But I thought it would be nice to include it in this game and future AC games.
I would like to see this series lean more into the kind of immersive detail is found in games like Red Dead Redemption 2.
Haven’t played this game in awhile and wow, it seems even more buggy than when I last played it. Playing on PlayStation pro.
There is no doubt that this game, watchdogs Legion, they released primarily due to their financial year ending or something to that nature, because these games are so clearly unfinished. I’m in assassins Creed Valhalla is probably the buggy is game in the franchise since unity
The combat feels slightly clunky. And also unresponsive at times I have to really hammer the heavy attack (right trigger) to get it to work. Often having to start with a light attack to get it to work.
also Ubisoft — you really need to tone down the rag doll physics. My killing blow is sending guys flying! It doesn’t look or feel weighty. Like enemies weigh nothing.
Im still trying to get used to these damn awkward controls — wish I could revert back to Odyssey controls.
But if you change things around a lot of changes then seem to conflict with other actions ! So I gave up!
Im playing on hard. I like how Enemies are not damage sponges. But seems a tad easy.
I’ve really enjoyed these new generation of assassins Creed games, largely because of the sandbox type gameplay. What I didn’t like about the old games was how linear that they could be. Being desynchronised for running too far away from the objective, and a myriad of other restrictive limitations on gameplay and player freedom to approach things as they wish.
therefore these new games have been much better gameplay wise I feel.
so I’ve been really excited about Valhalla because it seem to be all the things that they have learnt from AC origins and AC Odyssey combined with some new ideas, and it seems heavy emphasis on actually greater respect for the players intelligence. You know you now have to do some detective work and figure out what to do. they seem to have done away with endless icons and objective markers constantly telling you which way to go.
Heres a solid review —
I only just said in another post.
If this game were purely about assassins throughout history, without any of the animals stuff, I honestly feel the game would lose absolutely nothing. And still be as popular as it ever was.
The animus stuff is always been the worst part about these games.
assassins Creed main draw has always been the historical settings.
Ubisoft — just unhitch the series from this total rubbish.
So — it’s been a slow burn, and one with more than a few bumps, but I’m really starting to enjoy Valhalla.
Im thinking why does Breakpoint get so much dogged attention and ongoing commitment to improving that game and implementing user feedback? Why not other Ubisoft games?
Because Valhalla is a game worth improving. There’s a really immersive and decent game here. Unfortunately it’s buried under a continuous barrage of graphical glitches that constantly undermine experience. As well as poor enemy AI, and combat that could use some tweaking.
So I’m just saying — stick with this game Ubisoft, it’s worth it. With some more polish, improvements and adding new features, it could be potentially the best or one of the best AC games to date.....
I assume it was included to appease AC purists and people that do not want to have the hidden blades 1 hit kill circumvented by the RPG mechanics.
Regardless, I think it’s great to have the OPTION to be able to stealth kill anyone in the game regardless of level.
Im a great believer in having more options so players can tailor their experience to suit their own preferences....
So great going Ubisoft! Well done for including this option, it’s a great one to have!
I have to say.....
Odyssey wasn’t amazing, but at least it was functional.
At least if they got alerted if they spotted a dead body they would search they would sometimes join together and patrol is a two man. They AI wasn’t so bad that it took you out of the experience.
This game is bad.
Not only are enemies tethered to their respective bases/camps.
Which means if you run outside the gates, the enemies will get to the gate and then just stop as if they’ve hit an invisible wall. They literally can’t chase you outside of the camp, because they are rubberbanded to the camp.
I hate that in games.
Because its fun to lure enemies ‘into the woods’ so to speak, into terrain that gives you a potential advantage, and you can break line of sight and then hunt them down one by one using stealth..
I did that in Odyssey. It was a lot of fun.
So why are enemies tethered in this game??
Secondly — When you are in a base enemy AI is generally pretty terrible.
Theyre so dumb and generally Unaware.
They don’t notice you when you’re standing about 3 foot away. They get stuck on scenery. When they spot a dead body they don’t really seem to search effectively.
And when you call a raid, enemies around the base will just stand there as if not hearing all the commotion and the combat going on?? You constantly find enemies further in the camp that just standing there gormless…
This game is such a mixed bag.
There is parts of it I love, like generally the exploration is really good, and it’s more immersive I find that the other Aassassins Creed games.
But there is so much about this game that just feels frankly unfinished, low quality, clunky.
I’m honestly losing the will to press on with this game. I’m certainly regretting paying full price for this game.
I’m not even at England yet I’m still in Norway.
I have to say I’m starting to enjoy this game more.
i’m starting to get to grips with the combat and in all honesty it’s much better than what was there in Odyssey.
but that said it’s still not that great.
and to be perfectly honest it seems to be a balancing issue.
There seems to be no gradient / difficulty curve with regards to challenge with the enemies. Enemies seem easy to defeat the only difference being in higher power level areas is that they simply can one-shot you. They don’t seem to be any tougher to fight....
And then there’s just the difficulty spikes when you face enemies like the zealots. On the whole there doesn’t seem to be any kind of middleground.
So this sucks....
I want to go back to the controls in Odyssey. But actually can’t.
there’s now too many actions that will allow a changed configuration without conflict!
which sucks because these controls are horrible.
I don’t want to attack with the bumper buttons!
has anyone managed a successful re-configure?!!
it just sucks....
IMO. This has the potential to be the best AC game yet. But the game is filled with so much BS. Graphical glitches all over the place, clunky out dated combat. Clunkiness in a lot of areas.
Theres a great game here. But you are constantly reminded of the jank!
I have to say, I struggled to get into this game at first.
As I’m coming off Ghost of Tsushima — which is a really polished game that plays really well.
So when I loaded up Valhalla, everything is so clunky. The combat, the control of the character the movement speed seems to be oversensitive, it’s very difficult to walk slow or to trot on your horse slowly. A lot of parkour animations and combat animations seem to quick.
But if you persist with the game through its clumsiness, and try to ignore some of the glitches. The experience really starts to open up.
Exploration now feels fantastic. This is definitely the right direction for the franchise Ubisoft.
Not only is the world and level design really very good, but exploration now feels organic and rewarding! Those two qualities are so important in any open world.
Finding a chest is actually genuinely exciting now. A lot of the loot fits a clear in game economy, so feels useful. Plus finding weapons, armour or abilities is great.
This is sadly something many of Ubisoft games lack. Most the loot in their open world games is superfluous dross! It made exploration feel ultimately hollow and meaningless.
This is absolutely one of the games strongest aspects so far.
It’s great, because more and more I really appreciate immersion.
And this game is by far the most immersive AC game to date IMO.
I hope that Ubisoft continue to double down on immersive features!
I love how the health is effectively tied to hunting and scavenging in the world. Hunting felt pointless in the other games.
I love to have an animation for skinning the animals though. Why is that not in there?
I would love to see more lite survival elements.
I’m gonna do a couple of videos just show casing what I mean about exploration.
But thank goodness they got rid of health regen!
However, that being said — this game really did deserve to be a better game.
The combat is average so far. The enemy AI is average.
And what the hell? Why are the enemies tethered to their spawn location now?? Meaning they chase you only so far before they seem to hit an invisible wall and clearly can’t chase you further...
So if you’re trying to lure them away from the camp, they can’t physically move beyond this invisible boundary.
It’s a lame scripting thats in a lot of other games but not usually Ubisoft!?! Which is disappointing.
Unfortunately too — the game is filled with little graphical glitches and sound glitches.
The camera is regularly going below the scenery when doing the charge an enemy to the ground ability.
When panning the camera around the camera gets pushed in by the scenery so your character disappears??
If you die and load back into an area the enemies seem to spawn in with you, so initially they’re all clumped together in a group and then they spread out back to their previous positions.
The sound sometimes cuts out when your swimming... on the surface of the water.
There’s a lot of little things like this in the game that seek to pull you out of the experience.
Which is sad as I have a feeling this will be my favourite AC so far — it’s a shame it’s not as polished as Origins.
