If you are shying away from the drinking games Valhalla offers because you tried one and failed miserably, this post is for you.
To win a drinking game, you need to speak to a champion, offer a wager if it's the first time, then finish drinking before the champion. Time your drinking within the orange zone around the drink icon.
Before this week I tried drinking games early on once or twice and never got the timing right (playing on PC with PS4 controller). But the 10 opals for this week's community challenge finally made me try again. Here's what I learned:
1) Start slowly. Stavanger, Grantebridge, and Ledeceistre are the most forgiving locations. Try Stavanger until you get a feel for how the timing works. Those locations have the slowest drinkers giving you plenty of time.
2) Save before you start the first time at a location. The first time you speak to the drinking champion at a location you need to offer up a wager. I usually fail the first time. Reloading after the fail gives me the chance to try again and win the pot.
3) Listen to the crowd cheering you on. The timing works if you click the "drink" button a tidbit after the crowd chants "skal" or "drink". At first click when they chant. Once your reaction is faster, click a tidbit afterwards. That lands your click in the orange zone around the drink icon (X for my PS4 controller).
4) Compensate for Eivor's tumbling when prompted. Once Eivor has finished the first horn/cup of mead he slowly gets drunk, and starts veering left or right. Now it's time for you to yank the controller (or click the corresponding key on the keyboard) quickly to adjust his stance. Yank LEFT when he veers right then quickly let go, and vice versa
5) Focus on the drink icon. It's easy to get carried away and start watching the crowd cheering and dancing But then you lose the timing and Eivor the contest. So keep your eyes ironclad locked on the drink icon.
Once Eivor wins he will be seriously drunk, which is represented by the vision being blurry and shaking for a while. To stop that you can:
- speak to the champion to start another round or tell him/her you don't want to drink
- fast travel somewhere
That will stop the drunk vision immediately.
If you have motion sickness like me: Just do 3 games at a time, then do something else for a while. Then restart the game again and continue. Once I found out I can do this I was so excited and visited all the champions in the shires I have already finished and drank several times with each of them. Better to do just 3 then rest.
The higher level area drinking champions will be more difficult to beat and the drunk vision will be much worse. The drink icon will be the only non-moving item on the screen. Keep your eyes firmly locked on it to avoid losing focus and the game.
Wishing you good fun with the drinking games, and, of course: Skal!
Btw: there is no drinking location in Lunden unfortunately. Missed opportunity. London has lovely pubs.
I found one. Around Scotthoh farm as well. Here's what I did:
1) go to Scotthoh Farm and let the guards kill me twice.
2) go to the boars at the Roman Column arrangement near Scotthoh Farm and let them kill me twice.
3) kill all the boars.
Then I went to the area between Scotthoh Farm and the boar place and killed boars there. Suddenly an Avenge Quest appeared!
It was an NPC woman lying in the grass. And the perpetrator was one of the boars in the Roman Collumn place I had just killed.
Time I tried: around 2:50pm Eastern Time
Scotthoh Farm really does seem to work. It seems to be important to kill all the guards / boars after letting yourself get killed by them. Then the dead guards / boars might trigger a check for an avenge quest.
It might even have been triggered by myself dying 4 times in that area. So I might theoretically also have seen myself lying there, just with a different picture and player name.
If not: big thank you to the other player who let him/herself die there!
May 24th, US East Coast: 3 quests
- The Thieves Couple
- Investigation Offer
- Jomsviking Code
Today and yesterday we got the correct amount of quests. Means: tomorrow May 25th we'll get just one.
We need an episodic save, or auto save in River Raid due to crashes!
I just played River Raid for the new champion quest in River Rhine, about an hour long of prep work for the boss fight to get food, and all enemies killed at the location. Then I defeated the new champion.
When I set sail on the river, right before I was about to select to go home, the game crashed! After an hour of gameplay and killing the champion.
I know we don't have save function during River Raids to increase the risk for getting killed.
But that does not mean to increase the risk for our game to CRASH!
Please give us something like episodic or auto save during river raids after finishing each location in case of crashes. If we get killed, delete the save. Dying is part of the risk. Our own fault. We die we lose.
But if the game crashes, we then have a point where we can continue without losing all the stuff we have accomplished already. Because crashes are Ubisoft's fault. We should not be punished for them.
First meteor landed a short while after starting to run from the Bardon Lookout fast travel point to the hill where the thieves couple is located. To get there I had to turn clockwise about 45 degrees and run for several seconds in sprint mode.
Second meteor came after killing the murderer woman at the thieves couple location, shortly after starting to work on the man of arms. It fell in the direction of me looking at the man of arms. Actually: there was a third meteor falling exactly in the same direction after I could not run to the second meteor right then because the man of arms kept me engaged in the fight. Once I successfully got rid of him I ran in the direction the meteor landed and luckily found it. I ran again several seconds in sprint mode.
When I get back to the boot where the game is installed on I'll try to find the approximate locations on the map and upload a screenshot.
Meteor 1 approximate location
Meteor 2 location exactly:
Fortunately I had saved right after picking up the 2nd meteor. Judging from the proximity of both locations to each other the meteor might have hit at the same location.
Each meteor had between 100 and 150 iron ore and 1 chocolate ingot.

video is on youtube:
1) inventory: I have both trinkets and animal goods
2) in store menu: trinkets and animal goods are shown in their respective display section
3) sell all trinkets
4) scroll down: the trinkets are gone, the animal goods are offered as trinkets, but 0 owned (since they're already sold)
5) select max number: yes, game offers to sell 100 out of 0 owned
6) inventory: all trade goods and animal stuff is gone
@ubi-keo Not just that, but they also are offered to be sold as trinkets in their correct section Trade Goods even though you don't have them anymore.
I made a post about it with a screenshot https://discussions.ubisoft.com/topic/162564/1-5-3-store-bug-offers-to-sell-1-out-of-0-items-owned?lang=en-US&_=1656509156968
This is definitely a bug: animal goods are identified as trinkets now and sold with them. But if you scroll down after you sold all trinkets you can still see the animal goods, just as 0 owned. The game even offered me to sell the animal goods: sell 1 out of 0 owned.
The only way to get back your gone animal goods is to load the autosave the game makes right before you enter a store. It brought back my animal goods.
This is a BUG. Please FIX IT.
I also had Thieves couple and Making it boom (autocompleting) lol
But the number was correct. The amount of quests is what I am watching out for. The selection is still the same: Daily Thieves Couple and Autocompleting Boom quests. But if they'd just fix the amount of quests we're getting each day it would be great since we could earn the full opal amount.
This bug has appeared since this morning after the update 1.5.3. Since then it looks like Animal Goods are counted as trinkets, and sold off with the trinkets if you press "sell all trinkets".
At first I thought this was a new "feature", but it looks like this definitely is a bug. Somehow I cannot upload a screenshot ("something went wrong while parsing server response"). I'll try to explain by words:
In the menu with the merchant at first I did "sell all trinkets". Then scrolled down to see what happened. The animal goods I owned before the sell all trinkets action were still listed, but as 0 owned.
I clicked on 1 to see what happened, and the game offered me to sell 1 trinket out of 0 owned. It incorrectly identified my animal good as trinket, and offered to sell 1 even I had none.
I also tried to sell max, and the display offered to sell my non-existent animal good as 100 trinkets out of 0 owned.
When I clicked on yes, there was an error noise and nothing got sold lol. I also didn't get any silver for it.
I'll try later again to upload my screenshot. It shows the whole thing much better than my words can.
Edit: this time it worked.
The Animal Bone is offered correctly in the Trade Goods section, but offered as a Trinket, and even though I don't have it anymore.
Today I got 3 contracts. Yes, THREE. That hasn't happened for me in a very long time (hence the post). Let's see what happens. Maybe something got fixed with the quest counters for Reda's shop.
exactly. Rune stacking and sorting are sorely missed. And yes, it screwed me over first time I went to a store today lol. Fortunately each time when you enter a store the game creates an autosave. I reloaded that and then could sell stuff manually one by one. That saved me a lot of redoing time.
Ubisoft: please fix bugs instead of adding optimization that only helps very few people but causes more work for most. Or add optimizations the customers are mentioning, like sorting and rune stacking plus other stuff.
awesome. Thank you very much responding and for your help!
I just bought Dawn of Ragnarok, and am thinking of when to start it. I heard you can earn additional daily opal from Reda or somebody else with this DLC, but I want to avoid spoilers for the rest of the story.
So far I have finished:
Main story in England:
- East Anglia
DLCs: Francia is finished, and I started Ireland. Have started Isle of Skye, and did 1 mission in Asgard.
Exact gameplay status: Please only read if you have finished all stories in the whole game or are working on DoR and have finished everything else
Level: 535 plus some mastery points. I am hesitant to start the DoR DLC to avoid spoilers but also would love to get the additional daily opals. Should I wait?
