So as it happens I spent five days in NYC from last Friday to Tuesday, Aug. 17th. It was a request from my daughter for her birthday, and with no planning whatsoever on my part she had selected multiple locations that are all part of the WONY expansion. It was her first time to NYC, but not even close to my first - although my last visit was well before the original Div even came out in 2016, so my memory was a little foggy.
Anyway, it's pretty interesting to see what a stellar job the map and environment makers did for this game. Some locations, like Clinton Castle were spot on. I wasn't previously aware, but Clinton Castle is really undergoing a major refurb right now and indeed has scaffolding all over it. I suspect this had already started when they visited the site and took pictures, hence the scaffolding in the game. Same with Liberty Island, though absent the grounded boats and the Razorback it looked a little different.
The area that struck me the most though was the Staten Island Ferry terminal, which from what I can tell was a spot-on reproduction - down to the smallest detail. Coming through the doors to the escalators I was almost expecting to see machine gun-toting baddies there taking up positions.
At any rate, I think Massive and Res Storm have some extraordinary level and asset creators and do amazing work.
@dagrommit Please, there is no need to state the obvious, which is also in this case the "template" response to any and every negative comments about the DZ. "If you don't like it then don't go in there."
We've all heard it a million times, but as paying customers we're also free to express disappointment, concern, whatever you want to call it, about the choices the devs have made.
It's a game. A product. It's not perfect. If you don't agree with my comment you are free to say so, but please stop with the "if you don't like it don't go in there." It reminds me of the old joke where the guy is at his doctor's office, holds his arm over his head and says "Doc, it hurts when I do this. What should I do?"
So his doctor gives him the sage advice of "Stop doing that!"
@virtual-chris Do you do the weekly SHD project?
Before when I still had few exotics I'd do the weekly SHD as well as the weekly Summit projects. Those two combined guaranteed two exotics every week. GEs were of course another source (buying with stars), though slightly less often.
Now I have everything that isn't "hidden" behind, say, a raid. Plus Chameleons (in the LZ) and Pestilence (in the DZ) seem to drop for me like candy. When I finally get that Eagle Bearer I have enough exotic components to re-roll it 120 times!
So I had a very interesting experience today that backs up my earlier conclusions regarding this thread.
I was in the DZ farming, and while there were plenty of rogues to go around, it wasn't the assemblage of the usual 10-15 names. I didn't recognize any of them, but scoped their builds and they weren't exactly "noobs." All had SHD levels and hours of experience comparable to mine.
As usual I didn't look for trouble, but one shot me in the back and I immediately respawned and went after him. Another tried to hijack my extraction. At any rate, these confrontations were eactly like I would have expected given our comparable builds and experience. No one dominated. We moved cover to cover. We healed. Eventually of the five encounters I had I won in four.
Compare this to the ones that we were discussing earlier in the thread where they guys melt you literally in 1/2 second. I have a pretty decent build (1.5 M armor and crazy-high damage up-close), so did the guys I played today. But the matches seemed level and regardless of who won it came out close.
Conclusion: you can hide behind the "git gud" excuse all you want, but the insta-melt guys are running cheats. Probably lots of them. And no, you don't suck.
@raciaiadhesive "Experience"? I don't recall ever leaving the comfort of my office chair - cup of coffee or beer in hand (depending on time of day) - while playing Div.
Hiking across Iceland? That was an experience. Visiting Antarctica. That was an experience. Transplanting to live and work in Europe for three years. An experience. The first time I spent a month in Japan. That too was an experience. And so on...
Playing the Division (1 or 2)? Just a stupid video game.
@l3and80 Ah-ha! Your sentence "when you pick up the ammo, the NPCs will only drop ammo again if you empty the primary and secondary weapon ammo" is the key. it matches the behavior I saw and definitely explains my complaint.
The game doesn't do a good job at describing this, but since I now "know better" I'll approach it a little differently next time.
Anyone else seeing the launcher (that comes with the skill specialization) where you have plenty of ammo and a good distance to the hostiles, but the darn thing won't lock on, so you can't fire. It's not new and I had occasionally come across it previously, but it seems much more prevalent since the update last week. (Then again, it could just be because I normally don't use it much but have been doing so a lot the past few days trying to get GE challenges.) It renders the launcher pretty useless.
I tried changing load outs, but the only thing I have found so far that corects it is logging out and back in again.
Funny (but true) story: my son had the idea of a background story for my agent where he was vacationing in the Bahamas, snorkeling around the reefs when "the call" came in and his watch turned orange.
Being the ultra-dedicated agent he is, he threw on the shorts and sandals laying on his beach towel and hopped the nearest plane to deploy; too busy to even notice his mask and snorkel is still on, or that he's still clothed in beachwear.
Hence, you'll notice the entire outfit geared to match that idea.
So I was standing just outside a checkpoint looking at the map, deciding what landmark to hit first. A player walks out of same checkpoint, looks at me, drops a stinger hive and runs around the corner, out of reach of the auto-turrets, then turns rogue. Admittedly I wasn't expecting any of this so was totally taken down by his hive.
I re-spawned, stepped out again and typed in the DZ chat "that was the lamest attack I've seen tonight!"
He replied "I had to get my revenge for when you killed me last week."
I was rather taken aback; I mean who even remembers stuff like that? Win or lose, 30 seconds later it's over and forgotten for me - it's just a stupid video game after all. This guy (kid?) had been clearly nursing a grudge toward me for days, and I honestly couldn't say I even remembered killing him.
I think these are the kinds of sad-sack cases that get a lot of anger and venting on these forums. I suspect the kids were bullied a lot in school and maybe this is their "release"? Problem is, nursing a grudge over a silly video game loss really speaks ill of said person's state.
Any way, I thought it was actually funny. I ended by telling him "Here's a suggestion: get a life and you won't worry or care about me killing you in a video game."

Just for giggles launched it today and made it exactly 3 minutes before the game froze.
One thing I have noticed - at least on my machine - is that when it happens (since the update) task manager says the app was "Suspended."
So it's not scheduled for execution, but why would that be?
@adrian-11 LOL - and shockingly it was stable for me tonight. Go figure.
I actually had a (mostly) decent night. Went to one DZ and it was nuts, so FT'd to another and it was dead. I was grinding and extracting as fast as could and got my SHD to 1996, filled literally all of my materials inventory, etc. It was probably the most time I spent playing continuously (almost an hour) in a year because it was so "productive."
Then, of course, as was inevitable: up show the guys with the skull masks that melt you instantaneously. This one had significantly less armor than me, and about 4% more base damage on their weapon, but it was like literally the instant he pulled the trigger I was on the ground. There was nothing you could do because all you heard was "brap" and you were dead. Any developer that gave even the tiniest [censored] about their game would see something was seriously wrong in the ability to tear through a shield and 1.6M armor in tenths of a second.
Well, four more SHD levels and I think I am done too.
@adrian-11 I am close to SHD 2k - like real close - and for some reason want to at least cross that threshold, but after that I may hang up my watch.
With winter closing in I usually have a bit more play time coming up so was looking into other alternatives, and Back 4 Blood - the spirtual successor to Left 4 Dead - is being released soon. I think I know my next endeavor.
@honestlyok1986 Admittedly I've totally stopped reporting anyone a long time ago because they don't do anything. Maybe they don't care? I can't say for sure, but when 9 out of 10 players I encounter have inferior builds to mine (lower armor and lower DPS) and yet they face tank me - no out-maneuvering or chicken dancing required - and then instantly melt me in 1/2 second, while I barely tick a few bars off of them, then you know this game is FUBAR.
First few times I reported, but apparently since they weren't flying or shooting through walls Ubi didn't consider it important enough and did nothing, so I decided it wasn't worth the effort any more and gave up.
The DZ is so irreparably broken none of these issues would make even the slightest difference even if they were fixed.
Although I like the concept of the DZ (PvE/PvP in one place) and I'm not the whiner type, I have to admit I agree with the folks who say the PvP element should be completely removed from the game.
I personally haven't encountered many of the glitches you list, but literally 9 out of 10 players who "face tank" me have inferior builds, with lower DPS and lower armor, yet melt me literally in less than a second, while I barely take a couple bars off of them.
No chicken dancing or outmaneuvering taking place, so how can anyone in their right mind explain it any way other than rampant cheating - most likely headshot aimbots?
The stuff you are listing is just the most in-your-face cheats, but I think use-wise it represents a tiny minority of cheaters in the game.
I confess it's getting old enough that I am ready to give up on the game at this point...
@ubi-keo From my experience when it happens it's at all of the common DZ drop locations, and all at the same time (within that DZ). Remember they don't show on the map, but if you recall where they usually drop and run from one location to another they will appear on your HUD with the ISAC warning as you approach.
It seems the HUD and ISAC thinks there is a normal drop active in that DZ when there isn't - although as I noted ISAC does not say "Incoming DZ drop..."
