This stinks. Nobody was made aware of this fundamental change before purchasing (I purchased directly from the Ubisoft store too). Achievements are an expected part of the gaming experience now, to strip them away from the the PC gaming platform makes no sense.
Why didn't they remove them from WD Legion then which only released a couple of weeks ago?
If they are only going to have Challenges then at least make them the same as other platforms achievements/trophies!
Thanks for ruining my day Ubisoft.
I've been checking this site almost every day now since the game launched and in all honesty after almost 2 months I have finally accepted that this is just not happening. An appalling state of affairs, not least of which is the staggering lack of information provided. Coming on here stating 'no updates' just doesn't cut it. Has the mod even spoken to the devs to get an update or are they just reporting that they've heard nothing back from when they first raised the issue in November. Even something along the lines of 'we are working on it but it's a much bigger issue than we thought - it's going to take some time' would have been acceptable. To constantly repeat the same crap every time without any new info just beggars belief and reeks of insincerity. That U-turn was seemingly just empty words intended to get the gaming sites to update their negative articles and save face.
I work in IT support and if I'd been handling this ticket for 2 months without constant progress updates I'd be looking for another job. The worst thing you can do in these situations is leave the end user in the dark as they think you're ignoring the problem. People are usually very understanding if you explain what is going on and they appreciate being kept informed. We have been left well and truly in the dark at best and at worst lied to. I understand now - Ubisoft have my money and now they don't give a [censored]. They are far more interested in getting paid DLC out and working on other projects that generate more money rather than fixing their mistakes for something they've already been paid for.
Such a shame as Valhalla is a great game otherwise - I completed it to 92% once I heard achievements would come and hoped they would be retroactive. But I've not touched the game since CyberPunk came out... I finished the CyberPunk campaign before Christmas but I still keep going back to it every single day Ubisoft. You know why? Because of achievements.
@xrayspex_73 We will just have to hope that they get enough negative feedback from this that they reconsider before releasing their next game.
@lockmort Totally agree with all of this. I pre-ordered from the Ubisoft store so I could play the minute it went live. I played for a couple of hours before realising there was a problem and then stumbled onto this thread which I've been checking daily.
Initially I made the decision to stop playing and wait and see what developed. After they announced achievements were gone I resigned myself to this fact and got stuck in and took comfort in the fact that at least I could collect the challenges instead.
When they did a U-turn I was already 20 hours into the game and past the point of no return (for me). I only get a few hours in the evening to play so my time is precious and re-starting is no longer an option for me. Come December 10th I will be playing CyberPunk and had planned to complete Valhalla by this time regardless.
I'm just pinning my hopes on the achievements being retroactive as they are on the Xbox (assuming they have actually been coded into the game already and are not being shoe-horned back in from scratch). If you play an Xbox game offline (similar to Ubi Connect being achievement unaware I assume) then when you go online they all pop at once. This is my ideal scenario. Of course I'm also now resigned to the scenario where I finish the game and get none of the achievements which will suck big time.
I guess this is what happens when you are developer, publisher and platform holder... there's nobody to crack the whip over you but yourself. If this had happened on the Xbox you can bet your life Microsoft would be whipping their [censored] on an hourly basis until it was fixed.
A very disappointing display of total ineptitude on Ubisoft's part whichever way you look at things. I will definitely be wary of buying another Ubisoft game on day one in future. When Far Cry 6 releases I'll be checking the status of achievements before purchase that's for sure. Pre-order bonuses be damned!
@xrayspex_73
Thinking about it a little more I did wonder why the achievements were missing from the overlay for WD Legion. It shows Stats, Rewards and Challenges but no tab for achievements. Also the achievements no longer pop up on screen when you earn them. Sadly all of that makes sense now.
Yeah I'm desperate to start playing this properly. Played for an hour before realising the achievements were missing and now I don't want to play it all until it's fixed.
I noticed that the Stats are missing too which does suggest there is a Ubi Connect issue with the game rather than there simply being no achievements.
A proper official response would be appreciated acknowledging the issue, giving an ETA for a fix and clarification about what happens if we do play and earn achievements before the fix.
Good to know that there will be achievements soon, but we really need to know ASAP whether any achievements we earn during play now will unlock once they go live. I don't know about anyone else but I really don't want to have to re-start the game to earn any I miss because of this.
Edited due to no longer being relevant...
So I've completed the main story, had the message pop up that there's still much to do in the game, however the Ubisoft Challenge 'Eivor's Saga' has not unlocked for me. I'm currently at 88% completion FWIW.
Is there something else I need to do for this to unlock or is it bugged? I have continued to play the game for many hours over the course of two days after completing the story so if it was going to unlock I'm sure it would have by now.
Well it finally unlocked for me after completing the wedding... but I'm also now playing on version 1.1.1 so not sure which of those solved it for me but just glad I was finally able to get it!

@rockyraccoonuk Yeah I've since been back and 100%ed Asgard and Joten - still nothing. I have not yet done the wedding but if that didn't work for you then I hold out no hope for that either. Also can't get the avenge the death challenge or the swordfish one anyway so I'm just gonna leave it for now whilst I'm playing a certain other game. I'll come back to this in a month or so and hope they've fixed this along with the achievements...
@lockmort I still believe they're coming yes... just not any time soon! Fenyx Rising has them and this launched weeks after Valhalla which would suggest the initial, seemingly flippant, response that they were being scrapped is completely false. Then there's the guys reporting that the achievements pop on the PS5 via the cloud transfer thing which also suggests the achievements are there but simply invisible to us.
I think the whole issue is down to bugs/omissions within the Ubisoft Connect software. It doesn't have an achievement tab for Valhalla, yet it does for nearly every other game that released both before and now after it. Furthermore the achievement system is just completely broken within the app. They aren't visible from the overlay at all for a start and in Legion and now Fenyx Rising although achievements can be earned no notification appears when doing so. This omission completely ruins any sense of accomplishment you get for achieving anything. In fact I've noticed that even the challenge notifications appear broken now too. I've completed 7 of the challenges in Fenyx Rising so far and not had a single one of them pop up on the screen. A very sorry and disappointing state of affairs, especially as a month has now elapsed.
I don't think Cyberpunk will signal the end of our bug problem either unfortunately...
@sty1on Anyone know the requirements for getting this please?

@lockmort No I wasn't aware of this at the time I pre-ordered both WatchDogs and Valhalla... could have saved myself a fortune. Might give that a go when FC6 eventually sees the light of day!
