I agree with you whole heartedly about early access. I wrote my opinion on releasing digital versions early in another thread. The days of digital being a small market are over. If the game is ready and can be pre installed AND given to streamers, then put the damn games out to the players too. If people choose physical, which is their right, then I understand waiting till a certain date to make sure all the stores get their copies.
I fart in this forum design's general direction.

First, the game was moved up to be out by the time the new consoles dropped, not by the kindness of their hearts. The 17th was said when we didn't know the launch dates of the new gen of consoles.
Second, "I do not think that fracturing the starting times in the community would be a move that would give Ubisoft a lot of goodwill amongst its games players." They did fracture the starting times of the community by allowing early access to only streamers and look at the response they are getting, whether you agree with it or not. My point was they, like all developers, want to push digital, why not give digital players that added perk, and have the people who still buy physical see that and maybe, just maybe, switch over to digital too. If it is known one version will be out sooner than the other, and you choose to buy the one that comes out later, that is a personal choice.
Third, unjustified criticism wouldn't matter to anyone with half a mind. Ubisoft has a history of downgrading graphics from preview builds (like Division) and it hasn't hurt them anymore than giving players a game early and warning them they have to wait for the day one patch. If people are stupid enough to complain about a warning they received, that's on them, and WILL NOT hurt Ubisoft at all. Many companies have given early access, think EA with their service, Marvel's Avengers, some of the NBA 2K games and so many more. Those games were NEVER hurt by being out before the day one patch. Yes, people may have complained, but no one cared.

I guess it depends on what the OP is talking about with Multiplayer. I look at Unity and Black Flag as both multiplayer since it was done online, that's my definition of multiplayer. To me Co Op is someone sitting next to you on the couch, but I am also very old school haha.
As far as your examples, I don't think GTA V SP suffered from Online at all with how massive and detailed it was. Sure, we didn't get any SP dlc but I think the Call of Duty games are a better example of SP games being ruined by MP. Also, Bethesda didn't make ESO, ZeniMax did. They just published it so it didn't take away from development from their own games. FO76 was an spin off of FO4, and it was actually supposed to be an add on I believe. Bethesda suffers from their own BS. The time between their own SP games is on them, not because they worked on one really bad MP game.
@larrykop1967
Multiplayer didn't ruin Black Flag at all. It really didn't ruin Unity either, that game was just a buggy mess to begin with. I love the idea of having a friend join me on missions, taking down large forts together and so on. While I didn't put many hours into BF's multiplayer because I had a person issue with a particular part of it, I thought it was overall very well done and an enjoyable experience.

@shaw815 What did you download it from? I think if you get it from Ubisoft you have to connect to their service. With Steam I noticed I could play games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 with no internet connection, but games like Mafia remake I couldn't.
@aloninor
My thinking, and you are right about Day 1 patch, is if the game is done and playable, why not let people play? Whether you pre order it or sub to a company's service or what ever, why not let the players play? In these days where company's would rather people go all digital, PLUS giving streamers and Youtubers early copies, why hold it back? If you want to push digital like they want to, give people perks to do it. Why are people who are getting digital copies having to wait just so they have the same release date as physical? This isn't just me complaining about Valhalla either, this goes for all games. I can play Madden ten days early but can only pre load and wait for Valhalla? I been playing games for a very long time. I think its time company's start looking at getting rid of the old ways and start getting games out to gamers, with the warning of course that a Day 1 patch wont be available until "release date".
I hate to use it as an excuse, but times like these where so many people are stuck at home looking for ways to pass the time and stay sane, is 3-4 days early really asking too much?

@zidster19 See, that's were I will be different. I plan on being "Eivor Two-Shield the Usually Serious Does Have A Good Sense Of Humor".
@i-z-i I never said people who pre order shouldn't get early access did I? I was simply asking why they wouldn't give early access like Play Pro does as a perk to get people to subscribe. No, I did not buy the game, but if you can pre load a game it means it's playable, so why not let us play? Pretty simple to understand I think.
And don't be one of those "real fan" douche bags. Just because someone doesn't blindly put money down on something doesn't make them less of a "real fan". It's not like every AC game has been great and worthy of pre ordering.
I agree. I think it's kind of crappy they don't allow early access with Ubisoft+. If we can download the game four days early, we should be able to play the game four days early. Just my personal opinion. Giving streamers and YouTubers early copies just to show off sucks.
