A year after my first attempt the game is still freezing once you get into the New Your expansion area. You STILL can't boost a charterer to level 30 instantly, which is much needed for a hardcore game play type. My character has frozen several times and the last time a guess leads me to believe it was the anti-cheat engine marked my agent with the "death" flag, as Ive had to use Process Hacker several times to close the frozen game. I was walking (as they STILL haven't made RUN default movement) to collect a SHD Cache, no enemies in the detector.
It STILL has many problems with the ubisoft connect and the snowdrop engine staying connected with no packet loss most noticeable using a VPN. A security which almost every online purchaser or security conscious user has theses days. The engine alone uses too many cpu cycles and doesn't even tap into the raw gpu power it should be using. 60°C on a liquid cooled Ryzen cpu not overclocked at all, while my RTX stays at a frosty 38°C on air.
If you're a veteran hardcore player of different game types, you might want to stay away from this game. It STILL needs a LOT of polish for hardcore mode. With the little to no attention it has gotten over the last year, with people working from home, leads me to believe that it won't get any. It's still in "BETA" mode which is just another way of the corporation to say "hey you can try it, we put it out" but they shirk off any responsibility of doing anything about the game mode.
It could be good for hardcore play, but given the last years stagnant development, you might want to look elsewhere.
@dagrommit Correct a "side project" not a spare time project as suggested by the other poster. Which confirms my initial statement, it is STILL BORKED.
As far as linux goes, your a bit off the topic of hardcore Division 2 game play. Yes a ton of corporate development goes on. If you're using a device with android, you're using linux, if your using a mac, you're using unix. Linux Mint is a much smaller flavor of linux, and the point was what can be accomplished by people in their spare time. Contrasting Linux Mint to the Division 2 unfinished hardcore game mode.
Lets hope Ubisoft does something about the all too frequent crashing of the game!
I didn't read anywhere that Hardcore was made in anyone's spare time. Chatter in the forums of last year and previous suggest otherwise. Also, in software development Beta is a progression state of the software. If it were just software spat out and to be left as is, Infinite Alpha would be a more accurate state of development. Linux Mint is developed by people in their spare time, and The Division 2 both normal and hardcore modes aren't even close to what that is.
A simple flag removal, giving Hardcore players the immediate level 30 boost with the New York expansion would go a long way with Hardcore players seeing that the games CRASHING is STILL not fixed. This is not new, or restricted to hardcore game play. It seems that Ubisoft has went a similar route as Arena Net in putting up a new forums, which backfired for Arena Net because apparently a LOT of players had offline versions of the forums and posts. Arena Net couldn't just sweep all the years of previous complaints "under the rug" of a new forum. Hopefully we see similar effects here.
