Basically the same system Odyssey had. I feel like there is nowhere near as much emphasis put on your build and loadoat in Valhalla compared to Odyssey, however I'm trying out new weapon and armor perks and it would be nice if there were an option to switch between loadoats without changing each piece of gear individually. I know there is an 'equip full set' option now, but sometimes I mix two sets of armors to get both perks or use very specific weapons to make it work
@Ubi-WheelyDuck I agree with everything OP said, this is a huge issue for a lot of us and we sincerely hope there will be change in the future, especially considering there will be another year of post launch support. Here are some additional things i've noticed:
Some abilites such as Berserker Trap or Man's Best Friend will put enemies in 'combat' mode, in this case not with the player but with each other or with the player's wolf side kick. When in combat mode, enemies don't need line of sight to detect the player, they'll do it based on proximity, so the player will be detected even when they're hidden behind a wall, altough the player never engaged in combat with the enemies. This makes these abilites completely useless for stealth. The way enemies detect players in combat mode is the same reason why it's so hard to return to stealth once spotted, enemies who have not returned to 'normal' mode will detect you as soon as you're anywhere around them. This once caused me to get detected over and over again while standing in a locked off room with no enemies inside. Also I think the enemy type "Woe Bringer" is in constant combat mode, as they will spot the player even when obscured by the Blinding Rush ability. Also there are some other bugged abilities. Enemies distracted by Raven Distract can sometimes be stunned out their stun (weird, right?) by shooting a smoke bomb at them. Two abilities to disctract enemies added together will result in instant detection. Also, they sometimes flat out don't work at all, with the raven either flying god knows where and the smoke bomb doing nothing at all.
Both detection speed and field of vision for guards is broken. I had enemies detect me at a 90° angle straight up while standing on a roof, they didn't even had to look up for me to be instantly detected. What's especially weird is that this crazy fast detection speed isn't even consistent. I had an enemy directly looking at me standing a few meters away at eye level who couldn't see me, only to be spotted instantly by another enemy standing in the yard a few meters below me. Also there were instances of me getting spotted instantly while being outside a restricted area. It also doesn't help that sometimes Eivor will jump out of a bush they're hiding in to perform an air assassination instead of a hiding spot assassination on a closeby guard.
I have some of the problems I just described on video, so I can edit them together if you require further examples.
Kind regards!
@ubi-woofer Here you go:
I'm not referring to the ability to hide gear visually on our character, as this feature is already in the game, I'm talking about hiding it on the inventory screen. This could be done either by giving us a weapons chest (maybe even in the brand-new armoury building) similar to how we could store gear on the Adrestia in Odyssey or just giving us an option to hide certain items on the menu screen like in Origins. Either way is fine. There are some items I just don't ever use that just use up space in my inventory, so I would appreciate it if I had an option to limit the amount of gear I have to scroll through until I find the items I'm using. I also kinda dislike how I just get all the Ubisoft connect gear and Helix items I bought from Reda whenever I start a new playthrough, as gathering more powerful equipment is the core reason to go exploring in this game, so starting out with the most powerful gear feels cheap. I'M NOT ARGUING TO REMOVE REDA GEAR FROM NEW SAVE FILES THO AS IT WOULD ANNOY A LOT OF PEOPLE, just give me the option to hide it.
My main setup are two pieces of the Wayland armor and two pieces of the Paladin armor. Wayland armor adds a bit of your assassination damage to meele attacks, Pladin armor buffs melee damage by a flat amount. Both my weapons and my armor are slotted with attack and assassination damage runes. I'm max level.
Without my gear my Melee Damage is at 129.8
With my gear equiped it is at 233.5
So roughly an 80% increase.
However, when attacking enemies (or in my case the dummies in Fornburg), this huge increase plummets to what amounts to basically nothing. Using the Ulfberth Sword from the recent River Raids update, my light attacks did ~48 damage without my gear equiped and ~52 damage with my usual loadout. 80% more meele damage translate into 4 more points in attack damage.
Either there is a hard cap for damage buffs or the armor set bonuses just don't work properly. Why even have a stat system when your equipement doesn't change any of your damage output? The same thing goes by the way for critical chance: unlike in Odyssey, where we had a percentage (which makes sense), we now have a flat number and noone really knows what it means. You guys had this all figured out in Odyssey, why make it worse now?
Now that the DLC is out I'd like to remind everyone that stealth is still unusable in Valhalla.
Ubisoft has done nothing to adress this issue, it's not even on their known issues list, so we can assume they just don't care. Detection speed is still highly inconsistent and gives players not enough time to react. The clap of Eivor's asscheeks still alerts nearby guards for no reason. Controlled descent (holding the crouch button) is loud enough for enemies to notice you. Parcour is too sluggish and inpercise to be effectively used for positioning in stealth scenarios. Ubisoft wants us all to play as epic Viking raiders so they force stealth players into open combat, which completly defeats the point of having an RPG system in the first place.
This is completely unaceptable. Valhalla's stealth is the worst in the series and it's an embarassement for this to even be possible after Odyssey.
@ubi-borealis everyone pretty much has the same issues and a video detailing most of them has already been posted in this thread '>
What good will posting more do? Beyond stalling for time and frustrating the playerbase of course. There have been zero updates on this issue and it has not even made it on the known issues list, would you please just tell us if anything is being done about this? Don't tell us "the devs are investigating", it's a yes or no question, will this be fixed?
The chest piece now looks like the merchant's tunic in the menu, also the merchants tunic appears to be gone from the transmog system at the blacksmith.
The cape looks like the Magister's cloak
also the boots look nothing like they do in the icon
the other armor pieces of the set are fine. there is however a similar issue with the sickles from the Wrath of the Druids DLC, they share the same icon despite looking disticntly. The Bone Sickle uses the Ceremonial Sickle's icon
Just like with Basim's outfit. It even has slightly changed animations which is great. It would be nice if the other legacy outfits (Ezio, Altair, Bayek) would get the same treatment. It would also make more sense, since those outfits aren't supposed to look like anything Eivor ever actually wore, but rather something those Assassins and Hidden Ones owned, and none of them had the Hidden Blade on the forearm.
@spirantcrayon22 I never get any pop ups for achievements and challenges, might be my ubisoft connect settings tho. The challenge is still locked however, i checked both via the overlay and the 'core' challenge tab in the game launcher
@ubi-froggard I recently reinstalled the game due to an unrelated issue, and it resolved the issue
the game tried to repair some broken files after veryfing them, which failes for some reason when I clicked on the option. the game then wanted me to download an update, which for some reason was too large to install on my install directory, no matter how much disc space I cleared up. I then unistalled and reinstalled the game, now the bug seems to be fixed
When equipping the Gae Bolg spear, the spear won't appear in my hand and I get the unarmed strike attack animations as if I had nothing equipped at all. Switching to a different weapon instantly crashes the game. Trying to reload the auto save made after equipping the spear will result in an infinite loading screen.
@ubi-froggard I created a manual save file at the Hidden Docks when travelling to Francia via fast travel on the map screen. I made sure the file got uploaded to the cloud. When talking to Pierre in Ravensthorpe to travel to Francia I always get stuck on an infinite loading screen, so I assume talking to him makes the game teleport you to Siegfried's settlement, which results in an infinite loading screen. Just try to fast travel to Siegfried's settlement from where I made the save file, I always get stuck on a black screen. The same thing happens in the area around the Frankish Noble who challenges you to a duel in front of his farm animals.
This might be the most annoying bug I've encountered so far. When loading into some specific locations, the game will get stuck on an infinite loading screen. I just lost a total of 7 hours of progress because I don't have a save from before I entered this location. It happens in Francia in the viking settlement in the south east of the map and in an area south west to Amiéns near one of the Frankish nobles. I died to him and I couldn't load my most recent save file. Then I reloaded an older auto save, which was made before I entered the area around him (I was right outside that enemy camp where you find clues to Count Odo's whereabouts). I died to him again, and since the game saves whenever you reload a save file, ALL of them get stuck in the loading loop and I have to return to my last manual save, 5 hours ago. The exact same thing happened to me right after returning to the Siegfried's settlement for celebrations after the siege of Paris. I saved the game (manually), quit the game and when I returned the next day, I would always get stuck on an infinite loading screen. I had to return to a save made BEFORE the siege, so I had to replay all of it. The reason I know it has something to do with the location on the map itself is that the same happens when fast travelling to Siegfried's settlement.
@ubi-ladyblue I don't have a save file that's old enough to test this
@xrayspex_73 @ubi-Mushy I can confirm this is 100% correct, I wanted to update the thread because I just figured this out, just to realize you already did before me. the Paris DLC setup quest messes up your game, which can be fixed by travelling to Francia with Pierre.
@ubi-froggard I'll have to load up the game for further details, right now I can only say that it only happens on the unupgraded version of the ability and only when charging it up once until the rune effect appears. I only encountered this on one handed swords but it might be an issue with other weapons too. I'll post an update once I have more information.
Edit: It happens on any weapon with the charged up tier 1 Vengeance of Thor ability. I unequipped my other gear and it still happened.
@ubi-froggard thank you for your reply, I genuinely didn't know that. Is reporting an issue to the forums the best way to report bugs and glitches or is there another intended way? I sometimes hear the advice to "create a ticket with ubi support", is reporting something here the same thing?
@ubisushivamp I just posted the exact same reply in another thread: given that this is a very common issue, how hasn't this been addressed on the recently updated "known issues" list? it isn't even recognized on the "reported issues" list. this makes me doubt anyone is actually working on resolving this bug.
