I focused on the overheating issue .. took the Xbox out of the TV cabinet and placed it on the floor .. now I can play the game without any problems. Maybe it's really about a few degrees more or less that make the difference

by reading other posts, the exact same problem seems to appear on the new Xbox Series X as well
